Okay, it’s more accurately banned retro games, but you get the point - the title wouldn’t be as snappy. A few years back, Caddy took a look at a banned PS1 game - or at least, an unreleased PS1 game from the scary world of unreleased games - and no, this isn’t a video game creepypasta talking about lost video games in the deep web or anything unless you’re talking about my brief mention of Sad Satan on the dark web - this was an old video about Thrill Kill, a footnote in the world of controversial games that never was allowed to be released on the PlayStation. This sparked an idea for an even bigger video in which Caddy decided to look online for other games unavailable in the UK or taken off the shelves for various reasons, and point and laugh at them - including ones that were censored, or that have uncensored versions available through….less than favourable means. Today you’ll be seeing Thrill Kill gameplay with a Thrill Kill review, A Manhunt 2 review featuring Manhunt 2 gameplay on the PS2 with Manhunt PS2 gameplay, Manhunt 2 PC gameplay with tonnes of clips of Manhunt 2 uncensored, Postal 2 gameplay on PC with a Postal 2 review with obvious reasons for Postal 2 banned, Marvel’s The Punisher Xbox gameplay or The Punisher Marvel PS2 gameplay that was censored even though I do include uncensored interrogations and a The Punisher review, Carmageddon PS1 gameplay exclusive to Europe since the Carmageddon 1 PC released was banned for controversy - despite the original Carmageddon censored itself and the PS1 version is basically exactly the same except with zombies - and even some bonuses from a certain BMX PS2 game that I got for the original Xbox in the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX gameplay series - well, it was more accurately supposed to be Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3 before…..stuff happened - and even some Amiga gameplay from a certain Amiga 500 game involving...well, I can’t say, otherwise CZcams will cancel me. But it also came out on the Commodore 64 games list, so maybe that should be enough of a hint.

31:21 so for people that don't know, the reason postal 2 wasn't really banned was because you can actually play the entire game while being a pasicifist (meaning you didn't kill anyone) and the devs brought a valid point saying "you can complete the game normally without murder, it's the players choices that makes the game violent" and with that argument they won

I didn’t actually know about that, but that is a genius argument to make because it’s entirely accurate too (I’ve played a bit of postal 2, so I’ve experienced it) and while it is a lot harder in places to be a pacifist, it’s entirely possible
R* could've made the same argument for bully when it has a bunch of controversy since outside of story missions you don't gotta bully anyone ( the main antagonist was a sociopath anyways )
In fairness to Germany, they banned Little Britain The Game for “offensive portrayals of homosexuals.” And having seen the game in action, they weren’t wrong.

As an Australian, the reason for so many games getting banned in Australia was the mentality among politicians that games are for children and children only. A few games would get through, but until the last of the old crusty bastards got removed/retired we were all stuck suffering their overbearing nannying.
And also that we didn't have an R18 for games until 2013. Which of course still doesn't let every game through. But it certainly didn't help when it didn't exist.
Yeah, its still a case of "oh you lightly reference drugs? We refuse to classify it".

@@OGM_OriginalGameMusic No as in it was a feature or part they dropped entirly because it was pushing it even for Running with Scissors.
Now you can urinate on certain graves stones and have intreasring things happen, but I'm not sure which those are. I can't confirm but I believe there's a gravestone labeled "That beloved book case" and when urinating it enough it'll put a book case texture on a human model and start attacking you.

@@OGM_OriginalGameMusic When it goes on sale it usually about 99 cents USD, probably by Christmas you can get the game and the Paradise Lost DLC for less than a bus ticket and a sandwich.
Also if you do buy the game, email the devs hi. My understanding is they won't respond unless it's a major technical issue but they do love when people say they like their game.

For me the uncensored Punisher games is easily the most disturbing one on here. Everything else is so over the top it's just comical.
Then there manhunt one and two which is pretty over the top but almost same level

Probably because Punisher in general is grittier and more serious than most of these other games. Even Manhunt 2 has a exploitation horror movie vibe to it, including the cheesey nature that comes with the genre. Punisher is about a man going on a full on brutal war against crime due to losing his family to criminals.
Burning that "The Guy Game" was exactly what I would've done after finding that out.
I'd also burn a game that didn't match my PS2 shelf.

@@grn1 - I live in an are where you can walk to the hospital, fire station and police (I think on that last one, not fully sure) thus I hear one or more of the sirens from those places practically daily. Which makes a peaceful day without any so weird to deal with as I’m so use to them. Especially the fire trucks. Also because the medical one and/or ambulance has been called a lot for my dad throughout a number of years, we’ve had to reassure our apartment neighbors that they’re not coming for my dad.
Honestly, the censorship in The Punisher kinda gives it an edgy comic book aesthetic. I like that. Looks WAY better than the censorship in Manhunt 2, that's just seizure inducing.

fun fact about postal 2 in australia, its only the physical version thats banned. The version on steam is completely fine and easliy accessible unlike something like hotline miami 2 where you need to get a code from another country. If you own the physical version, it's considered contraband and you can get arrested.

I remember the developers at Overkill had to do something similar so Aussie players could get the Hotline Miami content in Payday 2, since Hotline Miami 2 was banned in Australia.

Getting arrested in Postal 2 is the best thing that can happen to you. It's often used for speedruns and making the game easier because it gives you access to a Police Uniform and weapons.

It is also worth noting that in Manhunt 2, that while you do get more style points for the more sadistic kills, you are also rewarded with the bad ending if you lean too much into it.

Fun fact, the game is licensed by somebody who is trying to prove that the way the FBI said the assassination went down was true, you would get a reward if you were able to recreate the assassination with 100% accuracy.... Nobody has gotten that reward yet

Now I'm just reminded of the time I learned about the censorship of a scene in Xenosaga that actually made it more disturbing. There's a scene where the antagonist, in the original version of the game, cuts his own head off in front of the protag to show her he's immortal and freak her out. When they made it accessible to other countries (or at least in the states,) instead of removing the scene, they changed it to him *twisting his head around until it tore off,* which is objectively worse in my opinion. But I guess as long as there's no blood, it doesn't actually matter if the scene is disturbing.

Of all these games on the list, Manhunt was the only game I ever censored my nephew from playing.
I knew how gory it was, and my nephew being only four, made me feel rather uncomfortable to play it in front of him.
Literally the only game I ensured stayed as a Mature only game.
As a side note, the game Getting Up, is a hidden gem of a game and it’s really unfortunate it didn’t get more promotion than it did.
I picked this game up on a whim, and was blown away at the detail they chose to put into it.
The story was great, the tagging was dynamic and engaging, the platforming gave the game stealth game quality to it; there were so many elements to the game that blended well.
Easily in the Top ten favorite Ps2 games, and number one favorite sleeper hit.
One of the reasons Australia has such a long list of banned games is that we didn't have an 18+ rating for video games until very recently. Because of that anything anyone tried to publish that was deemed unsuitable for our MA15+ rating was insted refused classification.
Well, the 19er stuff happening makes a lot more sense now.

As a 12 year old i played the uncensored version of The Punisher pretty extensively. The best parts were the various ways to kill the bad guy. Shoving a grenade in a mobsters mouth and watch him run to his buddies for help just for it to explode and kill all of them was the best.
Nothing like wanting gore for no reason. The main reason I want a pc is to play people playground
Fun Fact: in Germany, they censored half life by replacing the marine models with robots, and also made it so that when scientists and guards die, they instead just sit on floor and shake their heads, but for some unknown reason, they didn’t censor the corpses already there, and also still included the scientist being taken over by a headcrab in Unforeseen Consequences
The german censor robot model was also used as a playermodel in deathmatch

I bought a boxed copy of half-life anthology back in the day and it came with the german versions for whatever reason. I had a fun time trying to mod the game and get the gore and original models back. I went back recently to play it and steam seems to have patched it to match my region, but I'll never forget all the nuts and bolts flying everywhere and the garbled robot voices that all the hostile humans had.
That was a surprisingly common practice in Europe back in the day, all thanks to Germany's strict laws on violent content in video games.

Yeahhh, my seven year stint in Aus drove me insane with how baffling the video game censorship is (honestly as far as I'm aware it hasn't improved since I left, I vaguely remember it made little difference when they introduced the 18 rating).
Idk how long youve been gone, but its improved a ton and there's been like nothing recently that's been censored

These days their main thing is against drugs. But the funny thing is there's no problem if the drugs are completely fictional. You can also get through on appeal by showing how your mechanics and/or story are anti-drug. Which is actually a lot more reasonable than most ratings boards and many parents. I don't support the government censorship of anything other than lies and hate speech, but at least they're being context sensitive.
