Happy 50th anniversary to this classic vintage hit of CCR's! It was released right around this time in 1969, right around the time I was born, in fact. I just turned the big 5-0 ten days ago, on April 14, Palm Sunday in fact. Although it did not make the top ten songs of 1969, in my opinion it should have. Thanks for posting AND including the lyrics!
49% of the comments say things like "oh this is the theme song of (insert name of place or era)" 50% are about that darn bathroom and the other 1% are kind of mixed
the song is NOT about the vietnam war: As the opening riff rolled from his fingers, a lyrical theme began to form in Fogerty’s head. “I’d come up with the chords and melody,” he recalls, “and I got the phrase ‘bad moon rising’ from this little book I’d kept song titles in since 1967. I didn’t even know what it meant, I just liked how the words sounded. “Then I remembered one of my favourite old movies - a black-and-white 1941 film called The Devil And Daniel Webster, shot in that spooky, film noir way they did back then. It’s a classic tale where the main character, who’s down on his luck, meets the Devil and sells his soul to him. The scene I liked is where there’s a devastating hurricane; furniture, trees, houses, everything’s blowing around. That story and that look really stuck in my mind and they were the germ for the song.” Naturally, given the times, there was a subtext to the apocalyptic climate conditions described in Bad Moon Rising. “I don’t think I was actually saying the world was coming to an end,” Fogerty says, “but the song was a metaphor. I wasn’t just writing about the weather. “The times seemed to be in turmoil. Martin Luther King and [US senator] Robert F Kennedy had been assassinated. I knew it was a tumultuous time.”
But it's perfectly fit when you have to slaughter. What does it actually matter to end a life sooner. We all need to die sooner or later. But I agree it's originated from Bible teaching started as a gospel I believe.
