lyrics
[Verse 1]
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
[Chorus]
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no
[Verse 2]
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, no
But when the taxman come' to the door
Lord, the house lookin' like a rummage sale, yeah
[Chorus]
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, no no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no
[Verse 3]
Yeah, some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More, more, more, more!"
[Chorus/Outro]
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son, son, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no no no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate son, no no no

Try fighting not one but two civil wars, the latter nearly tearing everyone apart all because of a damned incident that the student union could not do better, and I, as a teen, thought I could. Except that it led to an exodus, an internecine civil war (civil war within a civil war) and another year of war being fought that did not need to happen but was better off winning and ending the war in the end!
teenager: "man, id kill for a college tuition"

Made an anti-war song only to be the anthem of war itself
They only made this song because it is a war song
@@GTA5player64. yeah but the lyrics are anti-war aren't they?
@@GTA5player64. The song is associated with the Vietnam war because it was made during the time of the war, it points out the bias between social classes when people where drafted into the war. The song itself doesn't glorify the Vietnam War.
its anti draft
I think you all missed the point. It’s a soldier pointing out that “it ain’t me’ that’s rich, that’s privileged, I’m just here giving my everything for nothing.. it’s anti war, anti government. But Pro man in a uniform.

My uncle and my dad were drafted into vietnam. Long story short my uncle got a shot of morphine for a broke arm in vietnam he spent the rest of his life in and out of prison for drugs he is now 75 approx and in hospice care me and my wife are making a memorial video with pictures of him. And i told my mom that fortunate son will be played when he passes at his funeral in honor of his military service. and i want the song played as a protest to all the filthy politicians that are so quick to run there mouths and start wars they and theres dont actually have to fight. Vietnam messed alot of peoples lives up i hope it was worth it. I was 2 when my dad was drafted into vietnam. By the grace of God he survived and i didnt lose my dad

Idc if I'm not American. I'll listen to this all day
To all the soldier's past and present, we owed them our freedom that we have today! Thank you for your service.
No lmao. Name a time since WWII that our soldiers have done anything to preserve our "Freedom"?
No they get duped into joining a system that's used by the rich and powerful to their own ends and get brutalized as their reward. That same system casts them aside after they're used up to fend for themselves.
There has been probably no actual deployment of troops since WWII that's been preserving our "Freedom" in any sense of the word. Imagine your country drafting you not to actually defend your home but to defend some other people's homes or invade them for dick all reason.
my freedom wasnt on the line in Vietnam
What freedoms and who is trying to take them away ?

Another song that is relevant because it brings back memories .This song reminds me of when I got the draft notice to report for my physical. This was during the height of the war in Vietnam. I made a music video about the Vietnam war. I used Jimmy Webb's version of Galveston to try to show the point of view and feelings of those who served in Vietnam.

Drafting should be a prerequisite to run for higher office. Likewise, senators' and Representatives' children should have compulsory drafting in actual combat military units. You can only understand others when you yourself have skin in the game. Maybe America will think twice before starting a war.
Our current President had a son who served
Or better yet do like they did in ancient, and medieval times, and require our leaders to lead our forces from the front lines, as kings, and the rest of royalty did in those times.

Music and film have gone hand-in-hand ever since cinema’s early days. Among the most commonly used songs in movies, “Fortunate Son”…
Creedance Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” became a symbol for the anti-war movement; hence why it’s used so much in productions concerning the Vietnam War or Americans’ involvement in overseas wars : “Forrest Gump”, “Die Hard 4.0”, “Battleship”, “Suicide Squad”, “War Dogs”… 💚🎶🩷🎬💙
