    Best video for tuning walmart bikes!! I just tuned my bayside cruzer 7 speed bike and man it took me 2 whole days until I found your video ! It still took me a couple hours of studying your video just because I've already messed it up a day before, had to restart the whole process! You did a great job explaining step by step !! Recommendations if you get a bike thats not from a shop , check to see if all speeds go in and out if not ! It's most likely cable tension, don't mess with the stopper until u have played with cable tensions , screwing in and out the plastic end of cables . If that didn't work, follow exactly what this video says . Release cable , allign high stopper, hand tight cable , then try it out, if it doesn't go up spool , play with cable tension , that would the trick !! Believe me , i don't know anything about adjusting or tuning bikes and I did it ! It can get very confusing but not if you follow the video !

      I do just like the one on the derailleur, all the way in then a couple of clicks out. If you do it like the video it is unlikely you will need to adjust at the lever. As the cable stretches with time you might need to adjust a little.

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 2 lety

      I don't think it will have the range for the bigger gears on the Axum. It's mostly for 7 speed. You need to get an 8/9 speed derailleur for the Axum. This would be a good choice if going budget: amzn.to/3akbRXG Just remember that neither one has a clutch and not ideal for 1x drivetrain

    @redherring87 Před 3 lety

    I just bought a Schwinn Ascension from Target and noticed that the shifting is a little wonky. It’s 7 speed and sometimes it doesn’t fall into place but it also doesn’t have indicators for what gear you are supposed to be in so if o click it and it doesn’t change, then click again it will obviously jump multiple gears but the timing is not ideal :/

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s the B screw. It sets how much the derailleur swings away from the cassette therefor adjusting clearance of the upper jockey wheel and the largest cog. Best to set it to where the jockey wheel just clears the bottom of first gear

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 2 lety +1

    Hi - thanks for that! As a noob, I have a question: I am replacing my rear derailleur cable and I am going to want to set up the gears "from scratch" (limiters and indexing). Should I start with the H & L limiter screws fully screwed out (counter-clockwise) or fully screwed in (clockwise) and then go from there? Half-way screwed in? Thanks, M

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 3 lety +1

      Do it with the chain off so you can move the derailleur by hand. start be adjusting the H limiting screw as shown in the video and your L screw you can adjust about where you want it by "eyeballing it". Then you can put the chain on and fine tine it when shifting after adjusting the cable as shown in the video.

  • @jesussuperlightchris5797

    One question, can you swim to indonesia because my bike aint playing ball, it refuses to rise up to the big cog

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 2 lety

      Lol, wish I could. If you tried the limiting screw and the barrel adjuster it could be you need to tighten the “b bolt” (at the back of the derailleur, it cintacts the derailleur hanger on the frame) so that the derailleur swings back a little and the cage can clear the big ring.

    • @jesussuperlightchris5797
      @jesussuperlightchris5797 Před 2 lety +1

      @@TonyHob Since i asked the question I adjusted it so got the big rear cog yet lost the smallest cog. I adjusted the B screw (let out) as you suggested and lost yet another smaller cog. But that will be for next time I muster the energy. Thanks for the reply and tip

    Hi there! I am quite new to bicycles and my mom just bought me a Shimano bicycle as a surprise gift. As I was saying, I am new. May I know if :
    1) Shimano (branded) bicycle is built with another branded body? In my case it is Croland.
    2) Are the parts supposed to look forged? I do not know the most appropriate word, but there are parts on the body which look really obvious that they were burnt/forged.

    I have issues with my chain shifting at all..Another issue I have is the disc thing is always rubbing and it wont stay clear on the back brake so when biking Im fighting that all day... When I spin the back will it is not freely spinning but rubbing on the disc brake. Also, the bike has trouble shifting gears & sometimes takes a little bit of pedaling to finally shift!

      Best to have a bike shop look at it, sounds like an alignment issue

      @@TonyHob Is this alignment issue something that needs to be done often or its a set it right & its set for life thing? If not Id rather learn how to do it then instead of needing to send to bike shop all the time!

      @TonyHob  Před 3 lety

      I mean that it could be a bent axle, wheel not true, bent frame, bent derailleur hanger, etc. If it’s rubbing the disc brake it could just be the calipers misaligned but coupled with the inability to adjust the shifting it’s probably a bigger issue. Unless you have really good mechanical abilities it’s best to have the shop check it out. If you are confident about it then start by checking all of the above.

      @@TonyHob Well its not even a year old bike yet lol I never had this many issues with any bike Ive owned before...Its a schwinn. So Im wondering if there is some kind of warranty offered that can cover it instead of me having to pay a bike shop for repairs after hardly being a yr old..BTW I took a video of the issue but how can I upload it here to youtube for you to see?

    Honestly I watched this video and it made my bike worse. Now I can't even get the chain to stay on. Wtf

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  Před 4 lety +2

      If your chain won’t stay on you need to set your limiting screws first. If still not working then your derailleur hanger might be bent, your shifter cable is binding (would need to replace) or your derailleur itself is worn.
