  • I had a rare opportunity to pass nearly everybody in the whole group while I was riding my Bacchetta Corsa recumbent bike. Of course they barbecued my ass as soon as the next hill showed up, but for a few seconds I was going pretty fast.

    "Of course they barbecued my ass as soon as the next hill showed up, but for a few seconds I was going pretty fast" Damn what a great line!!. Nice video and in a few years will be moving from DF to recumbent. But I will be using selected gearing and setups for riding up the hills better. Nice video!!

    Hey that was classic! I used to nail the uprights on the flat and downhill.
    Up hill ...err the next turn off was always My turn off...LOL!
    Two elite riders once had a go on my recumbent - an Olympian cyclist and an elite endurance
    athlete. I have never seen my recumbent go that Fast !

      I use Bacchetta Corsa too in regular clothes and shoes and even relaxed pedaling at a light pace I going like 20 MPH. Get's me anywhere in town pretty fast.

    Nice job Ben ... somehow in the long run, depending on the terrain, you can equal uprights if not surpass... conditioning, conditioning, conditioning :)

      It balances out. People have done Race Across America with recumbents and velomobiles and even with all the climbing it comes out slightly faster in the end. The main advantage is comfy back and relaxed pedaling for most of the time.

    Yah, we have a different power curve from the DF's. Similar experiences on my Carbent. I'm passing people just coasting on even slight downgrades, no problem keeping up or passing on the flats, but trouble on the hills. Big steep climbs are a problem. On rollers you can hold your own if you can hit the climbs going fast!

  • @James-zu1ij
    @James-zu1ij Před 8 lety +4

    Looked like quite a slow pace to me. Id say the DF's were doing 16 to 21 mph

  • @BrunoBA
    @BrunoBA Před 7 lety +3

    It seems to me that you expended too much energy passing the whole bunch and your muscles were tired when you hit the climb. In my Giro 20 adroit, I can hold my pace climbing up to 5%-6%. In ascents of 2%-3%, I climb faster on the recumbent than on the carbon DF; from 4%-6% (give or take) I am a bit faster on the DF; on steeper climbs I'm considerabily slower on the recumbent. I've been using Garmin Vectors to understand where the difference is and I've concluded (not a scientific conclusion, I know) that I produce less power on the recumbent and this gets more visible on steeper climbs. I've been conditioning myself to increase my muscle strenght on the thighs and have been able to maintain 200 watts for extended periods of time. If only I could maitain 250-300watts, I think I would only be slower on really steep inclines. Please, continue sharing your videos with the rest of us!

      I put slime in both my tyres as what you described going downhill would be nightmarish ...Also 39mph would be on the low side on some of the hills we have

    They didn't barbecue you by much and besides, you expended a lot of energy in passing them.

    The way the bike moves beneath you as you make slight steering adjustments is quite visible. I experienced that for the first time on my new Giro 20 when I took it up to speed on a down hill section. I suspect you just get used to it? (I also suspect it happens on a DF bike but I've been riding them for so long I don't notice or think about it.)

    • @KutWrite
      @KutWrite Před 9 lety

      Richard Corfield You do get used to it, though I suspect a patch of gravel or an animal darting in front would play hell with one's control.
      I have a Giro 10 ATT, but prefer my Challenge Trike. I may look at a Gold Rush Replica or Bacchetta Bella or Agio to get a longer wheelbase for that reason. I had a GRR, but it was hard to tote around behind my Honda Civic. I have some ideas about my current car, though... cartop carrier!

    • @richardcorfield9926
      @richardcorfield9926 Před 9 lety +1

      I think over the months I've been riding it I have got used to it and now feel very confident controlling it at various speeds.
      Interesting on the trike. I tend to only use mine for towing now. It can go quite fast, taking advantage of its lower height, but it is heavier and it's hilly round here. I'm enjoying the bike.

    are you using 24" wheels? never you can win to a 700c wheels by more recumbent bike that you have, you need use a more power full relation for run in equal oportunities versus this carbon fiber bikes, some like 56-10 or 56-12 in velocity, for climb you need strength use your back and win them

    • @meltmade
      @meltmade  Před 9 lety
