  • As Serbia prepares to welcome China’s President Xi Jinping, this week The Agenda heads to Belgrade to examine what’s been called the ironclad friendship between the two nations.
Juliet Mann examines how one of the largest economy in the region has managed to post growth figures which far outstrip its EU neighbours, how its managing the road to net zero, and just where China fits in to its future plans.
She speaks exclusively to Jorgovanka Tabaković, the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, and to Serbia’s Minister for Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović.

Serbia being always on the right side of history., brave, honoured nation, never agressor or colonial power, just protected themselves. Imagine the country populated just approximately 7 millions, half of London City!for example, or Moscow if u like, to be in the middle, between the most powerful countries on the Globe, being neutral in the time when Switzerland, Sweden, etc. taking one side, which were neutral for 2 centuries and therefore so much rich, while Serbia was attacked so many times by the biggest powers on the Earth, forced to fight for freedom every each generation, loosing almost half of male population in WW1 and WW2, and lately being shelled by nato damaged approximately 100 billions USD. To be honest, if the feeling of your society is so much against the EU, then you should simply stop with the joining EU proces completely. She’s a liability to Serbia I can tell. She uses a lot of words but does not say anything. Unlike other Serbian leaders who are direct and say what they mean. I think she’s learning more towards EU. She left china out of the conversation despite china being the sole and only reason Serbia is doing ok right now. They would be begging on the stairs of the EU if not for the great Middle Kingdom coming to aid Serbia.

No, she said everything in a nice and respectful way using respectful diplomatic language. She is one of the reasons that we are so successful today, and rest assured that she would never begging anyone, just as no other Serb would do it, those who think like that don't know Serbs and don't understand Serbian mentality. There are almost the same number of women as men in the Serbian government, and our women are the ones who make a big contributing. Her rhetoric is moderate, not passionately and primitive, so with her rhetoric she said exactly the same thing as those politicians who are more direct and passionate. She didn't leave Chinese out of the conversation, in fact she always connected and attributed Serbian success to excellent relations with China and the fact that the Chinese never politically blackmailed us or conditioned us to anything, on the contrary, in the interview she said in an indirect way that The Chinese don't blackmail their partners the way the West does. In this interview, she nicely said that Serbia fulfilled all 30 accession conditions for joining the EU, but the EU started adding new requirements that were not in the original agreement, which means that the EU started blackmailing us, but regardless to this, Serbia is still on its way to the EU and still fulfills the given tasks, thus showing its seriousness and honesty, until we can say the same about the EU and the West in general. So this is what is evident from what she said.
