In this video, I’m going to show you how to plaster an Aretx ceiling using British Gypsum Bonding.
There are many ways to deal with Artex ceilings but the safest and possibly quickest way is to plaster over the Artex using a backing plaster. This way you're not disturbing the Artex and potentially avoiding any disruption which could release the dreaded Asbestos.
Its a simple process but still worth watching because I cover how to
    - Apply the British Gypsum Bonding
    - Mixing plaster with some tips on making it set faster
    - Prepare your ceiling ready for plastering
    - The tools and materials I recommend for the job
    - Tips and tricks for working with Bonding.
These are some of the topics we cover in this video with other tips on tricks on plastering ceilings and walls.
This tutorial also covers using a product called Halftime 4 Bonding. This is an accelerator that speeds up the setting time of Bonding. I’m going to test to see whether this little bad boy works or not.
That's what we cover in today's video! If you like this training please like and subscribe to our channel and please feel free to leave any comments. I’d love to hear from you! For more information on plastering please visit our website below:

    Hi Blain
I’m also in agreement with Gordon Mackie,it’s great that you are prepared to take your time to impart your knowledge to people and great vids, and I’m in no way criticising you, because no two people work the same, and we can all learn and improve from others.
However on Artexed cielings I’d always hit with a pissed out 50/50 pva mix,and let it pull in to the ceiling, then normal multi finish, and flatten out with a Refina spat on the first coat, then it’s business as normal for the second coat.
Multi finish is just that,it can be the undercoat and the top coat, most people think of multi finish as just a finishing plaster.
The key with all plastering/artexing is controlling the absorption rate of the substrate wall/ceiling,if it’s drawing too quickly you going to work hard.
    Keep up the good work👍

Plasterers are a special bread of humans 👍 half time personally only use in finish. Bonding 60 is way forward. Personally prefer sbr over pva . Zombie coat on first coat . 80 to 90 percent board finish and 10 to 20 percent Bonding then 100 percent board finish to top off . We all have our ways to get that smooth flat finish . 👍🙈👍. Mad one on super uneven surface I use medi flex to applie but always flaten off with a twister or refina blade. I gave yet to try plastic speedster. Speedskimmer . Hated the plastic trowel so maybe I need to try but not convinced with plastic blades trowels . Weird even my wife doesn't understand that I watch your videos after a day on the trowel 😆. Great vids keep it up 👍

Good video mate, been watching all of your vids and going to try and plaster a small wall next week, just a quick question, once I've plastered the wall, if I've got any plaster left in the bucket, is it worth starting another wall bearing in mind that there may not be enough to finish the second wall? I'm guessing you dont want to part plaster a wall and have to finish it with a new batch of plaster and try to cover the seam? Keep up the awesome vids as well :)

If you’ll have no chance of remotely covering the pattern with the first coat then that’s when it’s time to bond it, overboard it, or do a magic mix first clay which is bonding in the multi finish, Ie one bag of multi finish with a quarter of a bag of bonding mixed in, gives you more time and its fluffy and nice to spread

Just one question though I e-mailed British gypsum about bonding plaster on ceilings because I need to bond a ceiling 8mm bag says 8mm on ceilings, British gypsum technical support says no 8mm can't work on ceilings? artex should never be plastered over because its not technically a plaster its a air drying compound ,it doesn't set, it dries out, unlike plaster where a chemical reaction takes place, that why u can mix a bucket of artex and use it next day once u cover the bucket ,what happens is the water in the new coat softens the artex and thats why the ceilings fail ,so overboard it ,its a much better job, ive been a spread since 1991👍

He heard a little creek when he was toweling up, suspected it might come down, so told customer to empty kitchen, sheet up and it dropped at 2.30am. Literally came off in one sheet and brought the artex with it. He then just pva'd it and skimmed it. • @PlasteringForBeginners

Kind of - British Gypsum have stopped producing Browning so you won't see it anyone. It's a shame really, I like using it when I was in Manchester

This isn't really relevant and I'm a plumber who has an interest in all building stuff so i like to learn and trying to get half decent at plastering but it got me wondering I've seen like fibre glass scrim tape thats a fair bit more expensive than normal scrim. Does it make any difference?

    • @PlasteringForBeginners
      @PlasteringForBeginners  Před 4 lety

Hi mate - don't worry, all questions are welcome! I actually prefer the dearer products because they actually sick. The cheap stuff is always falling off the walls - the expensive mesh is a lot better to work with mate!

I NEVER plaster over artex anymore. Always Always overboard. Artex deteriorates when wet and has to carry the weight of all that Bonding and skim.youll get away with it most times but you'll get one come down on you believe me .and the amount of effort Bonding first is about the same as tacking it .nice job though
