There are so few politicians of whom one could claim were genuine representatives of the people they represent. This guy is one of them. I'm not American, although did live in Texas for a couple of years, but societies need more like him. Here in the UK there are likewise a few commendable MPs, but you'll find they normally get ousted from the party under whose banner they were elected for daring to speak truths, or to challenge the establishment.
Democrat or Republican, Labour or Tory, it rarely makes a difference because by & large their priority is to pig out in the trough ordinary people keep topped up for their convenience.
