The only band I've heard that was even close (i.e. magical) was Trapezoid, a string band from West Virginia, especially the band's incarnation of the mid-80's and 90's: Paul Reisler, Ralph Gordon, Freyda Epstein (died too young) and Lorraine Duisit. Typically, not always, the instruments were hammer dulcimer, viola, mandolin, and cello, a beautiful choice of instruments for an ensemble. Of course, It was very, very different from ISB music, but somehow reminded me, transported me the same way. And many later bands were definitely influenced by the Incredible String Band. The whole hippie movement, in a way, was somewhat the product of the imagery of the Incredible String Band's songs and the lyrics, especially the lyrics of Robin Williamson. ISB music was also about as eclectic as eclectic can be.
