As an NHL fan over here in England ....... by far the greatest commentator in US Sports.
respect bruv
He was. He and Vin Scully are the 2 best ever in any sport. RIP.
I miss rick and jim together. Cant believe the day finally came. Listening or watching a sabres game wont ever be the same. Came back to add to my comment. I remember rick waving back to me as a kid when i would be in 320 waving up at him. He looked right at me, smiled and waved. Love that guy.
Good to see Drury, Miller, and Lafontaine.
God I'm gonna miss him. It's a shame that we couldn't get a cup for him to call
Funny that you mention that. I've been saying for years that he should pre-record us winning the Stanley Cup.
@@GMoNeY2969 this is actually a fantastic idea, imagine in like 5-10 years hearing ricks voice play would be magical in keybank
I think if the Sabres went to the cup in the next 1-5 years, RJ would come out of retirement just to call that series. Atleast I would hope so !
Amen to that. Damn shame. As the folks said below, a prerecorded version of RJ calling a Sabres' Stanley Cup would've been awesome!
@@GMoNeY2969 Great idea man
I will always remember being little and turning the game on after I should be in bed because of a west coast game and I would turn the radio on and fall asleep to his voice. Rick, you were one of the best parts of my childhood!
Sad day and night RIP JR we will all miss you and know that you will live on in my head as the voice of hockey.
One of the all time best commentator voices in all of sports. Enjoy the rest of the season and thank you Sabers for giving this gentleman the curtain call he so well deserves.
RJ Is the Best Play by play voice EVER
Grown ass life long Sabres fan, brought to tears watching this video. So many great Sabres players past and present, paying tribute to the only man who could ever describe our every feeling and every heartbreak as Sabres fans. LOVE YA RJ!!! Enjoy your retirement
The voice of Buffalo, best to ever to do it
Congrats Rick! Before you did the television broadcasts we would turn the tv down to listen to you on the radio! Godspeed 👃
Man, 14 minutes of respect paid from former greats, coaches, announcers, & players around the league. He's an ambassador of Sabres Hockey that spans generations. Inspiring kids from the 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's & 10's. He's a Top 10 Buffalonian All Time.
Rick Jeanneret and Ted Darling...the soundtrack of my youth ❤️ 😊
I’m not crying, you’re crying!!
Thank you so much for the memories, RJ!!!
RYAN MILLER IN SABRES GEAR 😭😭😭
Such a beautiful tribute tonight to the best to ever do it!
LEGEND
Thank you RJ, the true 🐐
What an amazing and emotional night from start to finish. Awesome 👏
Best there is, best there was, best there ever will be! Thanks for the memories!
I'm not crying..you're.....who am I kidding I'm bawling! Thank you RJ for every moment you've commentated on. You have etched memories on our collective Buffalo souls. #wearenotworthy
I've often been asked, why are you a Buffalo Sabres fan... listening to RJ as a five year old sure helped drive my lifelong passion, even after relocating to Wisconsin. Thanks RJ for the memories and remember, the cookies are hiding on the top shelf!
Thank you RJ
RIP. He is the GOAT. Let’s f’ing go boys, one time for RJ.
How the hell have we not brought a cup or a super bowl trophy to our city all these years. 66 and still waiting. Go Bills Go Sabres !!
As Jim Kelly once said after a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss..."We had our chances..." We just need to cash in those rare opportunities...Bills fan since 1972, Sabres fan since 1975...65 here, and waiting for those days to arrive...
As NYR fan since 1979, outside of Sam Rosen, this man is my favorite announcer. Always entertaining, passionate, unique and as loyal to his franchise as any other. He did it with grace, humor, dignity and fun. He is in the pantheon of great hockey announcers.
Well deserved!!!
The 1981 Stanley Cup playoffs at age 8 about to be 9 when the Buffalo Sabres took on the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of a five-game series Bob Suave and the Sabres shut out the Canadiens in the Montreal Forum the first two games,,The following Series against the Boston Bruins we lose in Game 7 overtime goal by Brad Park,, during this playoff run I was introduced to RJ ,,, man I was hooked !!!! All through the 1980s I would turn the TV volume down and turn the radio up,,, as a kid I had always wished for you to be the TV play-by-play guy and then the day came you were,,, as a Sabres fan the last 11 years have been very very hard,, perhaps within the next season or two our team can surprise us and get to the finals and I would hope they would break the glass and you'd be willing to call the games. It's understandable if you don't,, but I hope by some small miracle that that you do,,, as I am about to be 50 years old I've only really known One Voice besides Ted Darling when it comes to the Buffalo Sabres, for me it's going to be incredibly hard to accept anyone else as the voice of the Buffalo Sabres. Wish you nothing but the best of everything especially your health going forward and hope you get to do some things you've always wanted to do but hadn't done yet !!!!!
I'm sure I can say this for All Buffalo Sabres fans we love you too !!!!!
I grew up with Rick, and remember as a very young teenager when he and Ted Darling would announce the infancy of the Sabre games. Wonderful memories, and yes, we've all been blessed to have him for so long.
this is everything. Rj is the goat! we love you
Im not crying Your crying! What an incredible voice and legend to the game of hockey.
Rip RJ, simply the best
My brother has a hall of fame autograph book, told his wife only name missing was Rick, called his house, Rick met him at Tim Horton’s, signed his book, my jersey and talked hockey with him for an hour. Incredibly generous guy. Made a point of telling my brother what a great great guy rob ray is.! I’m not aware if everyone knows the great things rob ray does in the community, keep it up razor!
I’m just imagining the inside joke between RJ and his wife Sandra when she promised to “keep the home fries burning”. That’s an RJ inside joke if there ever was one.
What an amazing tribute to an incredible announcer and man.
I’m gonna miss this beer swigging announcer. I hope, that after he retires……we get the chance to hear him call a game here and there when he feels up too it. Please?
I remember in the early to mid 90’s when we’d put the game on the TV, put it on mute, and turn RJ on the radio.
During the ‘06-‘07 season, I had Center Ice (lived in S FL). I would back up the TiVo and stream the radio broadcast over the computer if they were using the national or opposing broadcast team. That’s not weird, is it?
The voice of my childhood. Me and my freinds often imitated your legendary and unique calls. Watching hockey without rj is great but never feels quite right after experiencing it with. Nobody captures the magic as sufficiently as you. Best sports announcer of all time.
Best at his trade without question
Just two words; Thank You!!!
RJ we can't say enough how much this fan base loves you
i cry like a baby when i think about RJ
RJ #51 🐐 he is Buffalo Sabres hockey.
A fine tribute. Thank you, RJ!
the fact miller put on sabres stuff for his part made me tear up
RJ: The GOAT
Van Miller and RJ were the voices I grew up with in Buffalo sports. in my house the TV was muted and the radio turned up. cause we knew who had the best calls. With RJ retiring the last vestiges of my childhood have retired. glad my son got to listen to RJ not only the past calls but current calls as well. luckily enough we got to go to the last game vs the Blackhawks and be there to help send RJ off.
I remember being at a game, sitting next to the aisle at the very top row in the 100's section. As I'm watching the game, I realize that someone is standing next to me. I look over and its RJ, he's got a headset on with no paperwork in his hands and he's calling the game. This man was truly a GOAT, always came prepared. Gonna miss you RJ. Sabres will never be the same without you.
Wonderful! A true LEGEND!
I’m having a real hard time with this I know it was inevitable but i wasn’t ready I can’t stop crying
when the sabers win the cup in the nest 5-6 years he better get a ring!
Simply the best voice in the game. I don't know if Rick will ever see these comments or not but from the bottom of my heart thanks for everything rj. It is because of your amazing voice that I became a fan and developed an interest in communications and broadcasting. I later changed majors in college mostly because I knew I would never compare to you rj. You truly are one of a kind. Thanks for everything you will definitely be missed
The amount of times Sabres fans would turn on the TV mute it and turn on the radio just to listen to the 🐐 of sports broadcasting while they watched the game.
It's not just RJ, guys... think of all the WNY legends that are getting up there in age. Brother Wease is another... and right on time, the next generations legends are coming into scope just as the past is being laid to rest.
No Dom in the video, but R.J. is the GOAT of hockey play by play, no question!
Wonderful tribute to the best of all time. I just wish they could have gotten Richard Sevigny to speak.
RJ you better be back to announce the cup finals when we make it!
We love you RJ!
Quite a who's who all showing RJ the love. No surprise there, just well deserved.
Also... How good do LaFontaine and Woolley look?
I have to give credit where it's due rick Jeanerette had the MOST exciting " He scoooooores" I've ever heard all my life and I am not young
Best sports voice of ALL time.
Is it at all a possibility that this is entirely staged as an April Fools joke!! Wouldn't that be something if it was. I've spent my whole life so far living in Southwestern Ontario, and I have loved this mans voice, and brilliant high energy delivery since I was a young teenager. Much love, good health, and happiness to you Rick...
I'm RJ's grandson (guy with the purple hair in the video) and trust me I really wish it was an April fools joke.
I wish Richard Martin & Rene Robert were still around to see this . They are looking down with Tim Horton .
This is better then any Stanley Cup.
No message from “Sick Mitts” Jack Eichel. (Oh)brother…
Wow... it was fun to watch this, and then his wife "Cupcake" brought the mist to these eyes. He will be missed behind the mic for sure, but the page must turn. Dan Dunleavy will most likely take over for Rick and he deserves our patience as he forms his own identity. He has the un-enviable task of following the unfollowable. He has improved on his game calls for sure and will continue to do so. With Rick Jeanneret as a guide, Dunleavy will be just fine. Thanks again Rick Jeanneret for the soundtrack of my sports life !!!!
RIP
LaFontaine got me.
"where mama puts the cookies..."
When did Chris Berman begin to look like Tony from 'the Sopranos'?
Where was Micheal Peca/Dominic Hasek/Zitnik? Afinaganof alexander Mogilny
Patty Kane…….he’s comin
Rick Jeanneret best calls of all time when?
Found it: czcams.com/video/HUSLwxbcBMk/video.html
He's a really important piece of hockey history because of his personality, fandom and love of the game.
So weird to watch this now😢

Lol Gretzky introduces himself as if he's not the most famous hockey player ever
simple fact...
An NHL player goes all out on a shift for 45 seconds...
RJ went all out for 2 and a half Hours every night for 50 YEARS...
Un.be.lievable....
Why does Drury look like he's freezing to death?
Too bad Ron Maclean was on what a disgrace
Good grief, Jeanneret, Foley and Emrick all leaving within 12 months of each other. Not fair. We should just cancel hockey.
It was a nice tribute right up until the filthy backstabber himself, Ron MacLean had to show up -- that ruined everything. Ugh.
WAYNE GRETZKY NEVER MISSES A CHANCE TO BE ON CAMERA... PATHETIC AND SAD
You're a sad individual "That 90s show"
All this positive energy and thats what you post. Society would be better off without your trash.
Thank you RJ for a lifetime of memories.
When listening to RJ you could see the game without watching it. Very few in the league were that good, and Rick was the best I've ever heard. His booming voice and emotion when calling a game was second to none.
The way I try to explain it to people that never got to hear or will never listen to a whole game is by telling them this... RJ could make a Wednesday night game of no-importance sound like a game 7 of a series final. He had such a gift. And I'm forever grateful to have had his craft be a huge part of my upbringing.
I cannot believe Wayne Gretzky introduced himself lol. Like he isn't the most recognizable hockey player ever.
