Why 2JZ blow up in Formula D, how to solve that.

  • In this video we ask @raddandrift what makes his Supra reliable, and why do other Formula D 2JZ blow up?! The 2JZ is known for being stupid reliable, but there are also teams within Formula Drift that have blown half a dozen motors within a few months inside the series. I thought it would be super neat to cover the subject. We at some point in this series talk about the best place to stop for useable horse power, which he thinks is SPOILER ALERT, somewhere around 800 to have a useable fun power band. We talk about oiling systems for the JZ motors, stroker motors, why the 3.0 is better than the 3.4 and 3.6 displacements, and all kins of stuff. It isn't every day that you get to get inside the head of someone that has so much experience within the automotive industry, so I really appreciate dan taking the time to share things with us! Check out his CZcams channel at ‪@RADIndustries‬ and tell him hi in the comments!!!

At the end of the video, Dan mentions that he knows the motor isn't the best in the series, but it's the motor that came in his car and he really likes to keep it pure bred. Is he referring to his motor not being the best of the JZ series of motors because he uses the Non VVTi 2JZ-GTE that came in the supra vs a VVTi 2JZ-GTE out of an Arristo or is he saying the 2JZ isn't the best motor in FD and there other motors that are better like an LS?

From the context it sounds like hes talking within the JZ line, because the interviewer asked if hes making any changes to his JZ setup specifically in the question. Could be wrong though
