  • Opened in 2012, the Tokyo Skytree is the world's tallest freestanding transmission tower (634 m above the ground). It transmits terrestrial digital television broadcasting, FM radio broadcasting, and broadcasting for smartphones. The tower was designed to be earthquake-resistant, based on the techniques of the five-story pagoda of Horyuji Temple in Nara, and was constructed using traditional Japanese architectural techniques and various cutting-edge technologies.
There are two observation decks: the "TENBO DECK" (350 m above the ground), and the "TENBO GALLERIA" (450 m above the ground). The "TEMBO GALLERIA" has a tube-shaped glass wall, which gives visitors the feeling of walking in the air while viewing the daytime and nighttime views of Tokyo. The "TEMBO GALLERIA" has a slope from Floor 445 to Floor 450, and you can walk up to the highest point of 451.2m, which is called “SORAKARA POINT”. On Floor 340, There is a 2m x 3m glass floor. You can experience the thrill of standing 340m above the ground. I was very excited when I saw the steel frame of the tower through the ceiling window of the elevator going down at high speed.
On this day, a special exhibition of "Chiikawa (Something small and cute)," a popular animation character in Japan, was being held, and the entire observation galleria was decorated with paintings of "Chiikawa". An animation of "Chiikawa" was also shown. Tokyo Skytree is very crowded with tourists during the daytime.
The weather forecast for the day was for clear skies, but the view from the Tokyo Skytree was not so good due to the haze. At night, there were fewer tourists, the night view was beautiful, and the cafes were relaxing and enjoyable. If I had to go only once, either during the day or at night, it would definitely be at night.

There are restaurants, a shopping mall, an aquarium, a planetarium, and other facilities under the tower, which together are called "Tokyo Skytree Town". The "Tokyo Solamachi" commercial complex has more than 300 popular stores, including cafes, restaurants, confectionery, clothing, toys, and more. Among them are many stores that offer a sense of downtown Japan. Visitors can buy quality souvenirs such as crafts and sundries made by downtown craftsmen and Amezaiku (Candy Sculptures) made by candy craftsmen. Also, in "Tokyo Solamachi", there are a lot of character shops from "Pokemon", "Hello Kitty", "Disney", and "Snoopy" to the official shop of " (Weekly Shonen) Jump" where "ONE PIECE" and "Jujutsu Kaisen" are serialized. For a limited time only, there was also official shop of "Chiikawa" .
