I agree with album reactions. The best way to appreciate his songs is listen to the album first (best with translations, otherwise you are missing a lot). Then watch the MVs like watching movies (some MVs are not directly related to the lyrics, even). Jay's MVs are entirely a different art that you can totally enjoy separately on top of the music.

As you can see, that's what available from the archive as both sites are now defunct (sadly) -they used to be the biggest two international fansites for Jay. Anyway, JCNet has better translations but only for first album up until 2006 are available; the rest are inaccessible in the forum. JCS has the lyrics up to album #14 (2014). Hope they help!

Checkmate is one of my all time favorite Jay Chou songs. It's from his 5th album btw. His 4th and 5th albums are when he really changed up his style and started to evolve.

They should translate the first song into “checkmate” instead of “general”. It’s because in Chinese “checkmate” and “general” are same word so there might be some mistakes when they are translating😂and the song is talking about Chinese chess.

My favourite Jay's song ever is San Nian Er Ban (Year 3 Class 2). My friend said I'm weird 🤣
That brings back memories 😂. I used to camp in front of TV and wait for the ping pong song to run (there was a 'jukebox' kind of slot on a local TV channel that aired Chinese MVs for few hours every morning).

But beyond that, I notice that companies for Kpop acts almost always release MVs with English subtitles. That's how you reach the wider audience and become a powerhouse!

Queen of pop my ass. She was one of the early pop stars but just doesn't have nearly the historic level of talent/status that Jay Chou does. Jay was/is literally like Michael Jackson in Asia, while Jolin is a good singer that made herself a career with a couple performances sprinkled in.
