You know he can sing when Amber Riley is in the crowd! Great video!

That is his unique style but what makes it beautiful is the different combinations he can do with a long note and run and inflection. He has the best breath control for a man I have ever seen and his range is out of this world. When a man can sing a G4 and C5 in a mixed voice and don't have to go in full head voice to achieve that same sound, he is basically singing notes that an Alto and Soprano can sing, especially like a mezzo soprano he does really well in his upper register.

He is a killer with that voice. He is not afraid of anything. Avery and Shoshanna Bean shred All to Me. Well worth a look. Ty

He is notorious in incorporating complex scales in his singing.

No matter how it is analyzed and broken down it still can't be replicated as well.

Great sound, cool style. I wish the audio quality were just a little better, so I could hear those runs more clearly. Great analysis as always, Jen!

Avery's a beast. I get that some genre's fret over riffs and runs but if you sing gospel and R&B and come from years of singing in black churches like many black american vocalists do the riffs and runs are a large part of the sound, of the genre, and the style. It's in motown artists, it's in James Brown, 80s 90s r&b singers, jazz singer, gospel etc.

If you're looking for riffs to practice, you could do a lot worse than following Avery Wilson. I've yet to hear him do anything sloppy when he sings. Tight vocals with a ton of very relaxed control in all his stuff. R&B will never die with folks like this kid around! You should check out his version of "A Song For You". While not my absolute favorite version of the song, it is a master class in how to stuff a song to bursting with riffs and runs without making it seem too excessive... Worth the time for anyone looking for a singing role model! There's also a video out there of him singing with Jennifer Hudson in a dressing door somewhere. The looks she gives him are classic! I'm glad someone steered you to him. He's a good example of what to do.

If you would like to react to someone who has the MASSIVEST chest range ever and completely destroys all male vocal registers, then check out Colm McGuinness! His arrangements of sound of silence and what could have been are phenomenal! Also great reaction/analysis.
