Glow in the Dark Mummy 1/8 Scale Model Figure Kit How To Assemble Paint Eyes Weather Stone Black Wash Atlantis Toy and Hobby Lon Chaney Horror 1942 The Mummy's Curse The Mummy's Tomb
    A452 452
The Mummy's Tomb is a 1942 American horror film directed by Harold Young and starring Lon Chaney Jr. as Kharis the mummy. Taking place 30 years after the events of The Mummy's Hand, where Andoheb (George Zucco) has survived and plans revenge on Stephen Banning (Dick Foran) and his entire family in Mapleton, Massachusetts. With the help of the high priest Mehemet Bey (Turhan Bey), Andoheb and the mummy Kharis (Lon Chaney Jr.) Bey takes up a job as a caretaker of a graveyard. At the first full moon, the mummy is fed tanna leaves which allow him to break into the Banning residence and kill the now elderly Stephen. Banning's son then seeks assistance from Babe Hanson (Wallace Ford), one of the members of the original Banning expedition to Egypt to stop Andoheb and Kharis.
Lon Chaney Jr. had renewed his contract with Universal Pictures in 1942 and had his first role as the mummy Kharis in The Mummy's Tomb, a role he would reprise in the film's sequels The Mummy's Ghost and The Mummy's Curse. The film was shot on June 1 and ended in mid-June 1942, not including footage taken from the previous film in the series The Mummy's Hand as well as Frankenstein.
Thirty years after discovering the tomb of Princess Ananka following a showdown with the living mummy of Ananka’s former lover Kharis, as well as his High Priest guardian Andoheb, Massachusetts archaeologist Steve Banning recounts the events to his family and evening guests in his home. As he concludes his narrative of the successful destruction of the creature, the scene switches back to the tombs of Egypt. Surviving their supposed demise, Andoheb explains the legend of Kharis to his follower, Mehemet Bey. After passing on the instructions for the use of the tana leaves, and assigning the task of terminating the remaining members of the Banning expedition and their descendants, Andoheb expires. Bey and Kharis leave Egypt for the journey to the United States.
Creighton Tull Chaney (February 10, 1906 - July 12, 1973), known by his stage name Lon Chaney Jr. (or simply Lon Chaney), was an American actor known for playing Larry Talbot in the film The Wolf Man (1941) and its various crossovers, Count Alucard (Dracula spelled backward) in Son of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster in The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), the Mummy in three pictures, and various other roles in many Universal horror films, including six films in their 1940s Inner Sanctum series, making him a horror icon.[1] He also portrayed Lennie Small in Of Mice and Men (1939) and supporting parts in dozens of mainstream movies, including High Noon (1952), The Defiant Ones (1958), and numerous Westerns, musicals, comedies and dramas.
Universal Classic Monsters (also known as Universal Monsters and Universal Studios Monsters) is a home video line based on a series of horror films primarily produced by Universal Pictures from the 1930s to the 1950s. Although not initially conceived as a franchise, the enduring popularity and legacy of the films and the characters featured in them has led the studio to market them under the collective brand name of Universal Studios Monsters.[1] Steve Jones of USA Today described Universal's most famous monsters as "pop culture icons", specifically Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Wolf Man

I built this glowing mummy in 1970 or so. I wrapped the figure in dried gray strips of gray cloth that was soaked in black water color paint. I was 11 years old. Haha. I still have the kit.

I built the Mummy kit way back in the mid'60's. My older brother built the Dracula kit. 👍The eyes of the Mummy seemed to follow me when I walked through the room. Scared the heck out of me! 🤣

Looks great, Chris! I built this kit back in the '90s when I was heavily into figure and "garage kits" (remember those?). Mine is still sitting here on my shelf with the rest of the Universal Monster kits I built back then. Among the Universal Monsters kits, this was one of my favorites. I also remember that it went together super easily and needed very little sanding/filling in the seams. I'm really glad they are continuing to re-release these old kits. Thanks for sharing, and have a great week.

I really like it when you make figure kits, the Mummy model looks great. I built it last year along with the Wolfman glow in the dark model kit from Atlantis. The Frankenstein and Dracula glow in the dark model kits are supposed to come out either late this year or early next year from Atlantis. I can't wait to build them.

Hey Chris! This and the Bride of Frankenstein were the only Aurora monster models from the 1960s that were a faithful reproduction of the actor playing the monster. All the other kits were loose interpretations of the character. Box art illustrator James Bama used studio stills of the monsters but none of the kits looked like his paintings until they gave him prototypes of the mummy and the creature. Lon Chaney was the mummy in 3 films...The Mummy's Tomb, The Mummy's Curse, and The Mummy's Ghost. And that's a wrap. Oooooh, bad pun.

Lon Chaney played the Mummy in.
    The Mummy's Tomb (1942)
    The Mummy's Curse (1944)
    The Mummy's Ghost (1944)
    Whereas
Boris Karloff played the Mummy in.
    The Mummy (1932)

Officially licensed? Looks more like Mr Roberts than Lon Chaney!!!!
I have all the re-pops of these Aurora monster kits apart from Frankenstein (ok, I have the Luminator version but, as they are virtually unbuildable if you don'tlike seams, I'm not counting it!) and have heard that this one won't be re-released due to the cost of licensing (Karloff estate?). Given that the kit also looks nothing like the actor, Atlantis should pick one of the lesser Frankenstein films and get a licence from that actor AT A FRACTION OF THE COST!!!!!! 😊
