Waldorf Blofeld melodic synth demo

  • Musical demo of the Waldorf Blofeld Synthesizer. I cycle through a few of my favorite patches (some I made, some stock) and improvise some melodies. The Blofeld is a digital synth that features many types of synthesis like virtual analog subtractive, FM, wavetable, sample and physical modeling. I focus more on relaxing smoother patches in this video with the occasional harsher sound thrown in for balance.

Aaron Davis There’s nothing wrong with either style. It’s nice to hear a sequence with lots of parameter tweaking so you can hear the filters and envelopes in action.

I agree with you, and I'm synth player. It's very annoying for me to listen to a guy who can't even play an entire chord. It's just weird (and I'm not talking about sequencing). I know that many are driven by the sounds they can create but for me the sound should exist primarily in a musical context, otherwise it turns into noisy only.
This demo is very musical by the way!!

    Great demonstration!
People saying digital can't cope with analog as it lacks the warmth. It's cold and liveliness, has no depths, therefore it can't evoke deep emotions of the listeners. 😂
Although I got many analog synths, the Blofeld is one of my main ones still. ❤ It has a character driven quality, I miss from many other synths, not to mention the enormous versatility. 😊

My go-to radiohead synth noodle is actually the bassline from Nude, the track right before it. additionally, I wish my MicroQ rack sounded so smoooooth. it really lends itself to trancey leads and FM rage. now i want to hook it up again and see what i can massage out of it.

What do you intend to use the DP32 for? Just for Recording or do you plan on using for performing some way? I have one and am trying to find some other uses for it. I’ve seen some People using cassette 4 tracks for drones (Recording drone notes on different tracks and Then using The faders to perform in real time). Just curious..

    • @RolanRock
      @RolanRock Před 6 lety

It's my first hardware setup. Bought DP32 with with the intention of using it as a live mixer (gear sequenced while playing guitar and singuing) and being able also to record the 8 tracks at the same time.
Just trying to stay away from PC, because I think it is always an inconvenience when creating.
The posibility of exporting individual tracks to make the final mix in PC is nice.

Thanks for doing this. Nice for Blofeld to get some love. Its been shit on quite a bit over the years. Its definitely not the synth you detune a couple of saw waves, adjust an envelope and go, “WOW!” It takes some work to get beauty from it. It take some time and effort to appreciate what it can do. It has made me a better sound designer for sure.
Your demo is an excellent contrast to Jexus. Lots of gentle, pretty tones, which is what I love about it. Yes, it can make some screeching zipper like sounds too.
Can’t wait to hear you pair it with some analog modulation and a delay or reverb. MF-103 phaser or Minifooger chorus are my favorites on a simple modulated wavetable or FM sounds. Hit a delay or reverb after and its pretty spectacular.

@Rhizosphere good luck, bud! historical record show that US intelligence agencys provided Australia with military grade electronic surveillance tech to test out the logistics of controlling populations and mass incarceration. Justification being that US needed test subjects to whom they would not be held accountable. Also noted was the view that Austrailia started as a penile colony, and the belief that the populace was genetically predisposed to coping with internment!
Down the road, US provides AU with nuclear subs. Depending on your timeline, Australia serves as the western worlds staging grounds in the wars that result after the invasion of Taiwan!

You know I've seen you playing on a lot of videos, and I always wonder: how do you learn so many different little melodies on the keys? I see some of the melodies are famous, others I don't know... See I play guitar but I'm can't play so many things at the same time. Some new licks and riffs/melodies push the old stuff I learned out of my brain.
How do you approach keys? You obviously have piano education, but I mean do you just learn by ear some of the stuff you like?
I'm interested because I really want to go back to playing the keys (I learned piano for a few years a while back) and am about to pull the trigger on this beauty of a synth, but I don't really know what to work on first. I'd love to just play tiny melodies like those.
Excellent video again, thank you so much!

Beautiful playing. I've played this video dozens of times since finding it. Any chance posting a list of the songs/melodies? What is that first melody?

Same here. Beautiful, short, musical paintings.

Do you think you can make a video on how to do FM synthesis in a blofeld and how to best use it with its other features?

Any chance you'd share your patches someday? Your have an incredible flair for synth textures.
