Carly Simon and James Taylor perform Mockingbird..
Filmed for the MUSE No Nukes concerts in NYC in 1979 - Hudba
I attended a James Taylor concert in the summer of 1974 or 75 in the Berkshires. It was pouring rain and cars were backed up. We ended parking and walking the rest of the way to the venue. It was a hot steamy summer night but we didn't care. He gave an incredible concert but the hightlight was Carly Simon jumping on stage and their duet - Mockingbird. A once in a lifetime experience. We were all so young....A different place and time.....
Hi Sandra hope you’re okay?
wonderful memory. The Berkshires are my home town in Western Massachusetts…..James Taylor’s stomping ground.
If that was the highlight of the show, the show must have really sucked.
❤
I'd love to get my hands all tangled up in her beautiful long flowing hair and she's not wearing a bra, what a great chick. Definitely "Klondike bar"
James Taylor looks so happy 😊
Yeah his self loathing is barely showing here
@@lyndajamrozik4786 Unfortunately, given this this period, he was probably high as fk. And whatever. I'm glad he got through that. I've seen him in concert, in the early 90s and he was very very different.
@@lyndajamrozik4786
What an utterly stupid statement. Don't understand people this low IQ even giving out comments.
Look at his eyes! Then go look at Mick Fleetwood's eyes during one of his manic drumming solos. It's clear that the coke spoon has been well used before this concert. All for the better I say, disregarding the negative long term effects on the humans.
Yes he was!
That was amazing, i am still moved at 75,yup!
Me too, 74 - I had that "Hotcakes" album, loved it! And when this song came on, I'd be carrying on like Carly just did 😂
Same Here! 75 two weeks ago. Carley and Colbert were also Great. Don't forget Charlie and Inez Fox!
I had never seen James Taylor performing like this. In my mind, he always was that introspective guy sitting with his acoustic guitar.
been seeing him in concert since 1971. he's witty, charming, and a rocker as well as introspective.
you never seen him live ?
Oh what the right woman can do ;)
You pretty much said every thought that I've been having. He shocked me.
booze balls
Look how animated James Taylor is, you can tell they were in love when they made this!!!!
She really loved him and he ended up cheating. It took her awhile to get over him and move on. They have children too during their marriage
If you want to see them sing another great song together at another time look up you can close your eyes on CZcams. It's a beautiful love song written by James Taylor.
@@belindastinson4864
His serious heroin addiction was also a problem. She didn't want their children to have a junkie father.
@@daviddemar551 the one where they are singing it together at home during an interview is my very favorite one.
I'm still sad that their marriage did not work.
@@cheriehiles9748 I think we're both referring to the same video- the song is you can close your eyes. I believe it was filmed at their home in Martha 's Vinyard.
You can tell from the way that they're looking at each while they are singing that they were very much in love with each other at that time.
Back in the day, if you attended to a live concert that had this much energy and love, then you'll never forget it. You were lucky to experience this much happiness.
. . . and didn’t have to pay $150 for the ticket!
So full of energy and Love ! I have never seen James Taylor smile so much!
Taylor's eyes seem to light up as he looks at her. Great harmonizing, great dance moves, great song, great video.
Yes i see it

They were a couple. Married at one point.... and seemed to be very much in love.
Zero direction or choreography, just go out and enjoy the song and each other.
Awesome chemistry.
They reached perfection this night
💜🎼🎸😊☮️🙏🌈
Such a powerful performance, James singing upbeat and Carly looking and sounding fantastic.
Do people get just how complicated this is? It’s like there singing different songs at the same time, then back together. What a piece of musical history.
I think it's called a "round" in musical language
@@jasonc6125 It is more of a canon or even a fugue, very hard to do even when you are not dancing! Not to mention that extremely skillful key change at 1:55. The musicianship here is rock solid. I was in music college when "No Nukes" MUSE film was released in 1980. I went for the cause and for CSN and Bonnie Raitt but this performance was the one that I remember 42 years later.
WOW,,,,,, WHAT A HUGE MOUTH !!!!
I wonder if she could unhinged her jaw like a snake attempting to swallow a gazelle.
She probably can’t, but it would make for a fun party trick if she could unhinge her jaw and jam a toddlers head in her mouth and walk around like Lurch from the Adams Family. The child’s feet, legs and arms would be flailing around wildly while “Ol’ Jibber Jabber Jaws” has the kids head completely in her mouth. I’d pay to see that.
It's a fabulous version, but for me the original , by Charlie and Inez Foxx,
who, I think wrote it, was immediately catchy, and superbly performed,
a great crowd pleaser back in the day.
It’s what all choirs do all the time, soprano, alto, tenor, base can all be singing different parts of the music, that’s why it sounds so wonderful.
I love James Taylor, this song gives me goose bumps. 🥰
Enjoyed both their music since I first heard in the 70's. I just turned 65.
Can't take my eyes off Carly Simon in this video. Such a classic.
my go to song when I am feeling I need a boost.
The best live duet ever. Makes me smile and tap my feet every time I watch it..Awesome!
Awesome video watch it everyday ❤
Special
It’s very enjoyable, but it’s not any better than the 1965 live version by Aretha Franklin and Ray Johnson
Yep, goosebumps here for sure.
Never seen James Taylor have so much fun on stage :)
These two are upstaging each other in a way that is so endearing. Talent beyond belief.
Just brilliant. Love this so much. The way James looks at her with such awe, pride and admiration gives me goosebumps!!! What a fantastic duo they were.
That performance was frikkin awesome.. I love this song,, its even better live.. WOW..
I hate to admit this, but back then I was a kid who hated both them and their music. It was on the radio all the time, it was slow, sappy, and I couldn't stand it. Fast forward to today where I'm in my 50's and now this is the only kind of music I want to listen to. And I'm feeling really glad that I lived long enough (and "grew up" enough) to appreciate these two awesome performers. Their music speaks to me on an emotional level I can't put into words. Thank you, Carly and James, for all these wonderful gifts.
I get what you are saying about time, time-of-life etc. Respectfully suggest you re-visit Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan.
Visit the original in 1963 with Inez and Charlie Foxx.
Their stage energy is off the charts!! I have never seen anything like it. Captivating!
Yes
It was off the charts. I was there and that performance with Carly calling from off stage and then springing out in that green plaid jumpsuit stands out as one of the all time most fun high energy performances I have seen. Everyone loved the two of them singing together.
Hi Cathy💐
@@EmM-zy2zuwhat year was that?
They are so talented its outrageous,,5 Star Performance
Jackson Browne in the audience at 3:45.
David Lasley and Arnold McCuller in the background holding it down. Kootch and Lee Skylar out there. What a crazy bunch of legends at the absolute height of their talents. I can’t imagine what it felt like to be up on that stage for this moment. Carly and James are transcendent. I’m so glad this video exists.
In the day, my day... This couple was everything I needed for comfort.. I miss those days.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts.

Yeah well too bad it didnt last

Carly’s energy ❤
I was there! What a night! Some of my fondest memories of concerts. Jammed packed with some of the greatest performers of all time!
Hello Nancy, How are you doing?
Cool!!!
Wow, that would have been marvelous.
I was also there. As I recall Carly was not on the bill - her first off-stage note sent a thrill.
I cannot get enough of this performance and their chemistry. It is pure magic.
I agree. I've watched this video so many times. I even post it for Thanksgiving.... It's a song about a bird, after all.
Ohhhh their chemistry!!!!
Weren’t they broken up by this point?
He could NOT stand her.
Oh Don't you know it all!😂 James was a DRUG Addict The Entire Marriage! Carly Occasionally had a glass of wine. What woman could live with That?? She filed for Divorce 1 year after this was filmed And she has never said anything but kind things about James. Even tho he was an absent father and husband.
I used to listen to this song on the record when I was in my teens. I loved singing along with Carly simon!
RIP David Sanborn. Wailin' on this tune!
Music from 1968 to 1978 was the best ever!
It doesn't get any better than this!! Two extremely talented people doing what they do best. Carly, such a beautiful lady with non-stop talent and her husband, another phenom.
One of the greatest live performances of all time! 😘😘
Carly Simon is drop dead gorgeous! Fantastic performance by two great artists!
She was very attractive when she was younger, but I don't know if I would go as far as describe her as drop dead gorgeous, but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love her singing and songwriting talent.
Big old super duper mouth.
She was Insecure with Her Looks. Had Daddy Issues!
She is gorgeous

Absolute perfection! I love to watch this because they really seem so happy and carefree. You rarely see James showing emotions like this and he won’t even speak to Carly for whatever reason ( I think he still loves her) but here they look happy! Great music 🎶 🎶🎶❤️
And I am still mourning decades later. These two were magical together. Two musical geniuses.

They genuinely look very happy and having so much fun! It’s infectious!
Hi Christine hope you’re okay?
James SHOULD look happy, he's high
Best duo ever! Gives me joy every time
The first time that Carly Simon heard James Taylor on his very first album, she leaned back and said to herself "I am going to marry him." Sometime later they met, James Taylor was going with Joni Mitchell and immediately dumped her for Carly. They were so in love with each other, but I believe they are still in love with each other, although they share two children (a boy and a girl) and they all live on Cape Cod. They never ever see each other, but the one time that James talked to her and she asked if he ever thought of her, he told her, "Carly, I think of you every single day." What a heartbreak for such a talented couple who had so much going for themselves. But Carly says it was his heroin addiction that destroyed them.
I just finished reading Carly Simon's autobiography "Boys in the Trees," the story of how she met James as a teen and he ate her Popsicle. Later she loved his "Sweet Baby James" album and played it over and over. One day out of the blue she declared that she would marry him someday, which turned out to be very prophetic. Their marriage had good times, bad times, and in the end it broke apart. Now I watch this video and all I can think is that they had something that was truly great, for however long it lasted.
Beautifully stated "they had something truly great, for however long it lasted."
Me too!
And I agree!
Yup just finished reading her book. The book was written well. She is a great singer and songwriter and she knows how to capture the audience.
Sounds good!❤️❤️❤️
So far as I know, this is the only time either one of them ever attempted a high-energy party song. Kind of surprising, since they absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Check out Carly's "Night Owl"- written by James, with backup vocals by Paul and Linda McCartney
I saw Carly live at a theme park 4 decades ago. Explosive voice
Not even close. But it is as far as you know.
Saw them do this at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago 1974. It was great.
Had to revisit a great duo. The music, dancing, harmony, the PURE JOY THEY DISPLAY. LOVE IT.
Hi Victoria hope you’re okay?

James' "Yeah!" at 2.03 is the greatest "Yeah!" in musical history! :-)
Carly Simon born in the Bronx, New York on June 25, 1945 is celebrating her 75th birthday today June 25, 2020. She is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and children's author. She first rose to fame in the 1970s with a string of hit records; her 13 Top 40 U.S. hits include "Anticipation" (No. 13), "You Belong To Me" (No. 6), , and her four Gold certified singles "Jesse" (No. 11), "Mockingbird" (No. 5, a duet with James Taylor), "You're So Vain" (No. 1), and "Nobody Does It Better" (No. 2) from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.

They were married and very much in love at the time

as good today as it was way back when. they were so in love❤
Really sad about their daughter.
You have to know...that you're the king of the Universe...when Carly Simon takes your arm...and walks proudly with you....saying...this is my man, the only man for me.
Amen! He had someone who loved him SO much. And he had the hottest property you could ever get in the music business!! I love Carly!!
Thank you for saying that because not enough people say it and not enough have said it to her. They should.
Carly Simon has talent beyond compare. With James Taylor, they gave the world some great music. I love this song. What I love more is how much in love they were then. This performance shows something rarely seen on stage. Many times performers simply go out and do it. Look closely at this video and one can see they are honestly having a great time with the song and each other. So much enthusiasm. I love both Carly and James music. They gave the world some great songs. Wouldn't it be nice if they got together and did a farewell tour? There's the pitch lets hope somebody hits that ball.

Sadly he won't even speak to her these days. Hasn't for years. Who knows what happened.
@@LondonEE16
She's spoken explicitly about what happened. He was a heroin junkie while they were married. Finally she'd had enough. He'd also been addicted before they were a couple. He had managed to stay clean for a few years and then got hooked again. He has spoken openly about this. It's harrowing. Even though she loved him very much she didn't want to raise their children around him. To his credit he finally kicked his habit. Unfortunately it was years after their marriage fell apart
@@daviddemar551 Thanks. I knew it was about his addiction, but I was focusing on why HE wasn't speaking to HER. Because she left him? I'm just saying it's complicated and we don't know his reasons and why he can't bury the hatchet. Obviously, she would prefer things be more amicable.
I think she has mobility issues now and cannot perform like this at her age.
It's cool to see them together at that time. I don't remember seeing him that animated and casually carefree.
I don't think I've ever seen James so happy. What a testament to love, however brief.

Claudia Gibson Yeah . . . in fact I'll go farther and say he's almost stunned right from the start. I don't think he ever expected her to hit the stage the way she did -- not shy Carly. Near the end, when he's finally found the same groove as she, it all ends abruptly. Yet this is one of my favorite, iconic performances that preserve time in a capsule.
