Alice's first words when calling is, "I heard about your father's will," not, "I heard about your father's passing, I'm sorry for your loss." That says a lot. Let's not forget, for a wife who felt her husband was abandoning their family, she ended up doing the same thing.

My mother had colon cancer and I knew that she was going to die. As a matter of fact, it probably would be a blessing for her to finally be out of all of that pain. Even though, when the call came, I cried as though I wasn’t expecting it. She was my mom! I was going to miss her so much! The hole that’s still in my heart remains even after fifty years.
There is no way I would leave my husband and his ailing dad/mom. I would love them all. I can't fathom leaving my husband or his family when they're in dire straight.

I've been in his shoes many times, if Alice really cared she'd be by his side through the whole thing and also help with his father by his side encouraging their children be involved in some way as well. Care and kindness of an elderly family member should be a family event. Not just 1 person. I'd be right beside my husband involved in the care of my dying FIL regardless of an inheritance or not.

I lost my father 8 years ago. I still cry when I think about it. Alice cannot be trusted. Her first words were about inheritance not sorrow. I flew to visit my dad and was there up to 3 days before death. Any inheritance is worth nothing without the person. His decision was the correct one.
Will she come back if there was no inheritance and money?
I don't know, however I couldn't even see myself leaving him in his time of need. I'd be there for him no matter what.

He did the right thing. I remember watching a show on TV about a group of people going around and building houses are really furbishing houses for those in need. And this was about the army vet who lost his leg - he was a young man with a wife and three young children. The day he returned from Germany, where he was recuperating, his wife walked out and left him. Someone reached out to some people and told them what was happening. He had to struggle to get downstairs to the washing machine to do the laundry to look after his kids and everything, it was really hard for him. So on hearing this, application was granted, and these people went in, demolished the old house and built a him a new house. It was a ranch with all the necessities needed, and his brothers in arms brought in a 30 foot pole with the American flag on it. It was the most touching thing I’ve ever seen and sometimes I wonder what wife’s thoughts were when she found out. So I believe that the man in the story did the right thing, she came back for the money.
Ruins her own family but come running only when money involved but didnt think about her kids an how it would impact them.
No surprise, women can smell cash a mile away. Money is the only reason she is back.

I'm the odd one out, I guess😊. My husband and children would be my only treasures. Money is only paper and metal in comparison. That paper and metal will never buy back my loved ones once they're gone. I'm sure he'd gladly give all that money up to have his father back.

She abandon her husband, kids, and refuses to support her ex-husband when he needed her. Only trying to come back for the money.

Ridiculous. He let his family down. If there was a $1m in money why wasn’t that money used for care so he didn’t have to abandon his wife?
Why should this destroy his family? Would she want her children to not care for her when she's old & sick like her FIL now? Her actions will come back to her.
Suppose the tables were turned and it was Alice’s father who was dying instead of John’s father. Would she expect John to stand by her as she cares for her father or would she feel that he would be right in forcing her to choose? How would Alice feel if John left her and the kids while her father was dying in the hospital? Returning only after finding out her father had left her a significant amount of money. Would she be willing to give him another chance? Somehow I don’t think so.
I wonder what she’d say, if the sick relative, was her Mother or Father?
He did right by being there for his father and children! He tried to be a good husband, father and son! He had his priorities straight his wife was selfish and she wasn't going to change! She ended 👆 being the biggest loser i. The end!
