  • These retro figures started out being pretty cool retro throw-backs but now they have slowly become what are essentially re-issues with ever-so-slight differences rather than whole new versions of the characters. Will this one be good enough to warrant another purchase?

    You look great....for a Marvel Legends figure.

  • @vgamer11
    @vgamer11 Před 2 lety +23

    In Norse mythology a lot of the gods would change their gender, but Odin and Loki were the ones who did it the most from what I recall. Loki would sometimes do it just because she/he felt like it, so this different look for Loki is just referencing that fact.
    This figure is the same Loki we know and love, while Sylvie from the Loki miniseries is an alternate version of him that was born a lady (think of it like the Doc Ock from Into the Spider-Verse if you've seen it).

    • @DesignIncase
      @DesignIncase Před 2 lety +7

      In this case though. After Ragnarok Loki was reborn in Sif's body(I believe intentionally). So this is literally Lady Sif's body possessed by Loki. Lady Sif was stuck in the body of an old human woman. Loki eventually returned to his male body allowing Sif to be reborn. Loki was later destroyed by the Sentry and Thor brought him back in a new body which led to his reformation as a generally good guy.
      Of course Loki can physically shapeshift and be a female asgardian or a horse or a snake or whatever floats his boat.

    Painted on scale mail works if the source material has “drawn on scale mail” with a more cartoony comic booky look.

  • @DesignIncase
    @DesignIncase Před 2 lety +19

    This Loki is a Lady Sif body possessed by Loki. That's why he's a lady in this situation.
    I don't mind painted scalemail but Hasbro's female bodies really leave a lot to be desired.
    Also Loki certainly identified as a lady during this period.

    The big hands problem started at the very beginning with the SDCC Thunderbolts set that debuted the buck. The fists are from Moonstone and the magic hands are from Satana. They're just not as noticeable when they're the same color as the forearms.

    Zup Anthony, for a character that I don’t care much, in the comics that is, I am a big fan of the Loki from the movies and the series.
    After checking most of the females reviews with the same hands I pull the ones that I have on hand, and I got say: the AOA Jean G, Shadow C and the retro Rouge and the AOA version as well have the same huge hand, it is hard to compare, for me, and I guess that you missed it as well but now that you brought it to the light of attention I can see it, specially after seen the Mcfarlane She-Spawn, which I get it not the same line, but when put side by side it is so noticeable how huge these hands are.
    In my humble opinion out of the fig I mentioned, and that I also personally own I think AOA Rouge looks best and only because that fig it’s so bulkier in comparison with the rest.
    P.s: I do like the look of this She-Loki.
    Thanks for the video 😎 and now back to “ keep collecting “ 😎👍🏼

    Random thought, but I'd be down to see a video by you comparing all the body molds Hasbro uses. Run through them, show their pros and their cons side by side. I feel like that'd put a lot into perspective for collectors

  • @ThisIsAUsername414
    @ThisIsAUsername414 Před 2 lety +3

    I think if its painted well enough, its better painted. With hasbro, it seems like the trade off is if the scales were sculpted, then we'd get no paint. Then its just a matter of praying if it looks good in its regular plastic color.

  • @Fuzzy_Barbarian
    @Fuzzy_Barbarian Před 2 lety +3

    Loki was a woman when the Ragnarok cycle was ended and he was reincarnated into the body of Sif, while Sif was in the body of a dying woman.
    I think they missed the mark on the look, namely because the look in the story arc it originated was going for "creepy", and had no eyebrows (or basically no eyebrows) and a really malicious look to the eyes in general. Here, it's just... female Loki. I guess it's fine for the price point, and maybe it being creepy would have turned some collectors off, but it's still a missed opportunity.

    I don't like the painted scale mail simply because it looks super out of scale to me. The color also doesn't quite work for me wit the plastic underneath.

  • @TheDrRandomness
    @TheDrRandomness Před 2 lety +2

    I much prefer scale mail to be sculpted on the figure if they have it. It looks more like a collectible. Too many times they paint details that should be sculpted on figures. (Logos, scales, armor bits, etc.) When they just paint it instead of sculpting some parts of figures. They don't look like they're wearing their own suits. They look like they're cosplaying with cheap spandex costumes from Amazon instead of looking like the iconic superheroes.

  • @tomfin-wo5vc
    @tomfin-wo5vc Před 2 lety +1

    Q of the Day: My default answer is usually “sculpted” but the panted scales work well here. I don’t believe the original A-Force version came with fists. That’s not an excuse for the lack of sleeves on the fists, but it may be an explanation.

  • @RadtechCustoms175

    New female Loki, with man hands. Did u take a good look under the loin cloth lol. As Adam Sandler said “You big hands make my -- look small”. Using an Archer reference… she’s like she hulk with hulk hands! 😂. Besides that, I’m torn, they can do scale for Capt, why not this, why can’t they fix the neck? Static, the figure looks good, but that painted mail will eventually fade or run off. I’ll pick up a few and the Jocasta body for some customs, maybe this is the same body??🤔

    The Moonstone mold is perfect for most female superheroes for the idealized body archetype , it's unfortunate Hasbro feels athletic, appropriately curvy, women are some how inappropriate these days.

      @@MrMegaman0607 hasbro has been in charge for over a decade now, this moonstone mold debuted in 2015, literally 7 years after they bought the license, if you don't trust them, why do you collect hasbro legends in the first place? either way, disney owns marvel and disney has a political agenda where curvy women are a no no, be glad your female figures don't already have male arms on them

    So for the scale mail, it depends on how tight the detail is. For example, something like the older Captain America figures where they just printed on the scale mail, thats unacceptable. For something like a texture on a skin tight suit, its fine for a $20 figure. I honestly hate when they just paint suit details on a blank body, like what they did with retro Falcon. It just comes off as cheap.

    So I decided to endure your Tigra and Invisible Woman review (endure because both figures are so so bad) to see if there was any comparison in hand sizes on the female Retro's. Nope, couldn't find one reference at all, but looking at Tigra now it does appear her hands are elongated but that could be because of the claws. Aside from its hands, Hasbro did a decent job. I do not mind the painted scale on this one, unlike the Retro Loki which looks too cartoonish.
