The paint looks lovely on this figure; that colour scheme [of] purple, black and sea foam green is aesthetically pleasing. I fancy it quite a bit. Fabulous job, Hasbro!
However, I happen to agree with Mister Anthony on the egregious lack of accessories. For $26 plus (approximately £20.10-£20.25 here in the UK), collectors expect better. Collectors expect more.
I still like this figure and will most likely pick it up. Thank you for sharing.
Arrivederci,
Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
Why did they have to make Ben Reilly evil again? I honestly don't understand
theyre creatively bankrupt
@@AnthonysCustoms Yeah, I figured as much
They don't know what to do with the character.
The storyline with Ben being a corporate asset Spider-man was decent before they did this to him.
Marvel comics just hates Ben, same as Peter and Mary Jane's marriage
@@AnthonysCustomsRich Evans?
I agree on the more accessories on reused body models. Sick color scheme tho
I am perfectly fine buying a straight repaint when it goes on clearance at Target for 10$. And that photoshop really shows how droopy the body is.
I agree, if the figure is just a repaint, they should compensate it with the accessories.
I am okay with the repaints, but in a GOOD base body and with accesories
I am mainly a model builder and I can't understand why Hasbro can't add desirable stuff with a remold (like when Dragon Models reuses a Panther mold for example, they include a lot of extras for the next kit that uses it) to entice you to get them.
It's so weird seeing a modern sunfire body not being able to do the splits.
I don't mind reuse. The body just has to fit the character, and be functional.
I thought Chasm's design was pretty sick when they first showed it off, and it's something I would have wanted in figure form. I remember being pretty disappointed when this was what the ML team showed off.
There's a lot of cool comic designs I would want a figure of, but I can't really get too interested in picking them up when Marvel Legends is content with giving the minimum. Perfect example is that King Daredevil as part of the new Marvel Knights wave. I don't think he looks as god as the Elektra/Daredevil figure from this wave.
I need to see your perfect, ideal figure, Anthony. One with all the aesthetic and articulation. Perfect butterfly joints, ball pegs, and paint. It would be awesome!
Perfection doesn't exist... Especially where budgets are involved.
Most definitely MORE accessories!!!
That Chasm color scheme is quite nice. Pity about that old mold, though, and the egregious lack of hands and/or accessories. Great review nonetheless, Anthony. 👏
Man oh man do I wish we got that photoshopped figure 😂
What's weird is this body mold has had 3 hip joints. The og ones that barely do a split, these ones that can do a better split and the ones on the newer bullseye and havok that go full splits. Idk wtf is the issue and why they just dont use hips with the better cutout so we can get a full split.
"If you enjoyed the video, please do give it a thumbs up. If you didn't, give it a thumbs up". That's like a Jedi Mind Trick right there.
I saw the whole wave at Target yesterday. They all look so goofy with the giant head. I had to pass on all of them. Not worth my $25 bucks.
I’m good with repaint of blank bodies when the paint apps and accessories are good
Thanks for the review for this product Anthony. Answer: accessories. And it is most demanded for the Retro line. To be transparent, I am tired of this sort of laziness for the MSRP I pay. I am letting my wallet speak for me at this point.
i dont know why but i laughed my ass off when you brought out the broley hand
The only thing that really bothers me in this body are the shoulders, and the funny part, is that both the Falcon figures that use this body, have different arms to fit the wings, and the shoulders are bigger and look way better. I don't get why they don't use those shoulders allways.
Yes. I've been saying that since they made the Falcon fig.
And you forget to say that this new retro lines cost the same as regular waves but with no bafs so this figures getting less accesories its hard.
It'd be ok for me if, "blank body", actually looked like the character it's supposed to be representing. But when it's hasbro and they have like 80% of their figures share roughly 5 "blank bodies" everything just starts to look the same.
Also...the retro card just seems to be a way for Hasbro to include less stuff and no BAF piece, but have an excuse to still charge the stupid $25 or whatever it is.
I have an amazon price alert set for this guy @ $12. If he drops to that, cool. If not, no big loss. Unfortunately, this is how I feel about legends in general.
I don’t plan on buying this, not only does it have no accessories that fit the character (like spider-man 2099 type claw hands) but this version of ben reilly is part of a not so good story line
not a fan that marvel editorial him a villain again
its sad really, we could be getting such quality figures but they choose the laziest and cheapest creative choices. great review as always!
This has definitely become more and more evident. They don't come out with figures people want, they come out with figures they can either easily use existing things for, or know they can reuse after. If a character has unique things that'd make it harder for reuse, they just ignore it.
@@TheMattTrakkerjust occasionally they come out with a belter like Spiral, Psycho Man, High Evolutionary etc, but it's rare.
Before improve articulations and aesthetic they use their body molds as canvas to bring a state of the art new toy manufacturing process of customized figures. That was clever!
Good informative review. I would have gone lower because of the old body, minimal recycled accessories and no BAF part. Not good enough for that price.
Will there be a live stream this month?
Yep. This Saturday at 8east
how is a figure like this painted? has a bunch of detail. Is it machine applied at mass production scale or there's a line of dudes in the factories applying each one specific brush stroke? want to understand why paint is one of the most expensive parts of a figure (though i'd understand it for either scenario)
Tampography
They should have used the renew your vowes SpiderMan for this version of the Scarlet spider. But if they had included two twip hands then this would have been a pretty solid release. Paint looks good but that should already be the standard.
I recognize the business need for reuse bodies, though McFarlane has shown you dont to make a profit, but even then sometimes I nearly prefer it for a lot of comic book characters if the base is just really well done and all it needs is the paint, then focus on that. Its the reason why I'll buy nearly every Mafex spider-man or ML Modular Iron man. The bodies are near perfect.
PLS DO A REVIEW ON THE MAFEX SCARLET SPIDER
they should have given some accessories for this figure as it is just a repaint
They should’ve given him a full set of hands along with the swirlie power effects then they could justify the price. This paint job is choice, tho
Hi Anthony! Would you consider reviewing the new Mezco One:12 Amazing Spider-Man when it comes out? I'd love to hear your opinion on it because I have never owned a Mezco and your reviews have the most detailed critiques. I'm considering whether to get that or the Mafex classic colors Spider-Man, but I also just got a Toybiz Mcfarlane Spider-Man so I don't really need either one 😅
I doubt i will but i can tell you now you won't enjoy the mezco as much as a plastic figure
@@AnthonysCustoms Understood. Thank you for your feedback!
I’m just waiting on that bug eyed Ben Reilly Spider-Man head sculpt review 👽
Soon
I'm not a fan of the comic or the story behind chasm. But I really like the design of him. But I agree. He really needs more. Especially hands.
And a Ben Reilly unmasked head.
Completely agree with you on it. Just got the Elektra Daredevil figure and it sucks not to have anything.
I can't understand their strategy with whole lines of figures with no accessories and then...Black Widow. Hasbro is insane.
On this figure, it looks good but I have no idea who he is so...pass.😊
Completely agreed. Reuse body with accessories/BAF parts is fine, but by itself is too much.
This version of Ben kind of has claws which goes against the new part budget, which was used on the head sculpt, I suppose
Hey Anthony are you going to get the upcoming SH Monsterarts Blue Eyes White Dragon?
I might
4:13 same
Hey anthony have you seen shartimus interview with the hasbro team? If yes what do you think about hasbro respond about the questions?
i havent
I saw it. That was rough. I know they have bosses and jobs to lose but the contempt they had for being asked questions was palpable.
while the color scheme looks amazing the figure itself is essential the same Sunfire body mold and it's meh and that price very jarring
Love the colors, but the marvel comics have long jumped the shark for me. He was Jackyl II just a few years ago and the comics are full of spider people now.
AOTD: Personally I think if it's accurate to the source material, includes a new head if needed as well as at least two sets of hands.
Hey Anthony what do you think about the SDCC 2023 Deadpool 2 pack? A buy or a pass?
Hard to say. I have a hunch it'll get discounted but you never know.
@@AnthonysCustoms I actually went back to rewatch your video on the Renewal Your Vows 2 pack as reference. They're using the Spiderman buck from that set for Deadpool's body. So probably just black paint with no details etched onto the buck. Overly large obliques and small shoulders too. Not a bad buck, but as you mentioned lacking in some areas.
They did a really cool design on this character. Weird that they keep making ben a bad guy tho..but i would love a mafex of this guy. Doubtful they would make him tho
I use mine as black spider from dc
I'm thinking the exact same thing I want more bang for my buck more hands and an extra head or two would be great. But for the price point no thanks on just a figure. People are making their own customs at this point.
You know, ultimately the decisions when it comes to budget are up to the pencil pushers. But I feel like the people actually designing and sculpting these figures are just burned out. That explains why so many of the newer bodies (Renew Your Vows, Iron Spider, Vulcan etc) have dysfunctional articulation and bad proportions is because maybe the sculptors aren't bring their A-game anymore. Which is a travesty because they're charging said A Game prices, but there's no A Game effort
I think it's more likely they just hired bad sculptors
👍
Idk I love this body figure. Yeah I would have preferred pinless but he works for me
Habro increased prices AND cut back on accessories.
gummy? wait til you see skaar lol
Looks like superior Octopus
I had no idea this was Ben Reilly until people pointed it out. I'll stick with the hoodie design
Right? This look is cool but they're ruining the character
I wouldn't mind repainted blank bodies if the body was very good like if the body was on the same level as jada fei long. most superheroes are just people in skin tight costumes and you don't really need a new sculpt for them. More accessories would be nice too with all the re use.
Nope, I'm done buying blank body repaints at this point. I don't have enough money or shelf space to waste it on blank bodies. If they hit clearance, then maybe.
The new Bucky Cap is a prime example of how little unique sculpting they should do to make the figures stand apart. It's so minimal and so easy, yet they rarely do it
i disagree about this body mold being outdated this body mold is still fun to play with in some figures of marvels legend. and still hold up today the body is Okey. But i think that Hasbro could have really. done much better if they used the pin less retro Spidey mold. to think a figures body mold is outdated is just plain dumb because these are figures as we get older, we are going to want these figures for nostalgic reasons later on. i like how millennial's think they know better than toy companies. oh, how to put muscle definitions. on body molds of toys but never work out. lol. but this figure of marvel legends chasm in my opinion Hasbro did a great paint job on it i say it's a good figure. but a lost opportunities by not given it the retro. pin less. body mold treatment of the retro Spidey mold we are getting currently now from Hasbro. not that i care whether Hasbro's figures are pin less or not. Just as long as it's done well nice review. though.
My answer for the todays question about repaint of just blank bodies:
ML Zero 💀
I’m not really into it, that’s why I prefer the mcu figures, they have more texture and interesting things going on
I think hasbro at this point are ripping people off. When shart did his interview with them, they seemed cold and very defensive, not wanting to answer questions. He asked them if they have any information on a ML haslab and they started talking about starwars has one, so we will wait to talk about us... the marvel legends team, and what we got in store for the future. I think sdcc is the perfect place to bring out the big guns.
I saw the interview. It only confirmed what I've been saying. The people at that level might care about what they're doing but that's not who makes the decisions.
The worst part about them using this body mold is that there is another Ben Reilly in the same wave using a better body.
Lol
The figure / character isn't for me, but just a recommendation is to watch or listen to shartimus primes latest interview with the hasbro team, kinda letting us know about body moulds etc.
I've seen it. They didn't say anything that isn't common knowledge. They just tried to spin it. It's all BS. Hasbro has their own factories and produces huge quantities... But they can't compete with Jada or indie companies? Oh... Licensing. Except other companies have licensing fees too. It's all just corporate spin to hide their "more profits at any cost" mentality.
If a giant company is willing to give an interview to someone, don't trust anything that they say.
@@AnthonysCustoms It felt like spin control to me too. Actually, Hasbro can't justify themselves and can't even compete with Diamond Select doing bigger, mostly better sculpted characters with plenty of good accessories at a not-so higher price. And that price gap between Legends and Select has narrowed a lot in the past few years too.
@@AnthonysCustoms fair enough
Will you be reviewing that new target exclusive black widow if you can get your hands on it?
yeah but im not actively looking for it so that might now happen.
ben reilly cant catch a break.
10 bucks for this figure maybe 15 for the packaging but man this is just low of the low maybe is he rights for the character that cost too much but yeah I would prefer that they sale this figures in zipbags for 8 bucks 10 with tax included
Ooooooooooooooooo
oooooooooooo
Saw it in person at a target. Interesting concept but i had to pass on it.
48 second in and I’m already hating the standard marvel legends giant thigh gap, But the rest looks nice enough
Marvel hates Ben Reilly just as much as peter, goddamn
At least the suit looks dope
The blank bodies are just hasbro being lazy at this point. Adding more accessories would make the figure unique creating more value
ultimate example of lipstick on a pig
The constant reuse just makes them look cheap.
Np accessories suck nut I'm a simple for a bad ass looking spidey fig
Hello ! Your reviews are great. I wanted to begin a Marvel legends collection, but you often prove they are expensive figures and not well made so I think I am going to pass...
Happy to help
First and hi
Why isn’t he pronounced with a ch?
Because English doesn't work that way.
this review is nearly the same damn thing as a review from 2016.
Huh?
@@AnthonysCustoms basically what I’m saying is, everything I just heard, I heard you say back in 2016 when this body came out. the deja vu hit me real hard w this review.
