If you want a good laugh, read the pitchfork review for this album. The reviewer calls Diggs "monotone".
They gave the album a 6 right?
And when I heard it, I was like "no way in hell that is a 6/10".
Haha. I'm not surprised. I don't typically agree with very many of their writers. Which is OK. But "monotone"? That's not even really a subjective thing. That's just a person who may not really know what that word actually means...
@@MrSHERLOCKHOLMES42 No, I think they've given everything Clipping has done below a 5.
Diggs is monotone
@@MrSHERLOCKHOLMES42 they gave it a 4/10
The project is so dark. I loved it. The piano burning for over 10 minutes was a bit too much for me though lol. But to be fair...I actually sat there and listened to this piano burn the entire way through.
I did the first time. Never returned to it. It is a cool idea tho.
I’ve always thought it was a good way to conclude the whole thing, the whole album is dark and high tension imo and while listening through the first time the piano burning shut me down for a minute and gave me a minute to think back on everything that was said and I got weirdly aware of the world around me??? Idk I just thought I’d share my experience hahaha

my album of the year so far, this project is insane.
Blood of the Fang? More like Song of the Year.
from all the times ive listened to "Blood on the Fang" it also mentions A LOT of people that were involved with the Black Panthers. Almost like the song was a history report but with noise and industrial beats behind it lol.
Which I would guess the "Blood" on the fang of a "Panther" maybe ?
Yeah I had a whole part about that angle but cut it. I felt like it woulda made the video a bit long and didn't wanna get the goofy comments about the Black Panthers. But yeah, I think that's what he was alluding to as well.
I think there was something about the black Panthers in the description of the music video
@@ellie-ys3qz There is a famous news photograph of one of the Black Panther leaders handcuffed to a hospital bed.
Damn I was hoping for the whole DEHH squad to review this
This record easily made it to my top 5 best of 2019, the attention to detail, sound experimentation and beatwork gets better every time I listen to it. Add Diggs amazing vocal skills to this, mixed with the horror ambience and lyrics makes for a super addictive (no pun) record. A daily listen for me. I think a standout for me is "Club Down".
Nothing is safe is a masterpiece.
if you haven’t already i think you should check out Slowthai ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ i think you’d love it
he is one of the most punk rappers
I love this album, but I'm not sure how they're going to get any better
surely this is their magnum opus
I said that about Splendor And Misery. So...we'll see!
I've been bumping this nonstop but CLPPNG is still my favorite from them
I've had the same thought. I just really hope they maintain the challenging production and intelligent story telling.
Judging off their first single off the new album I feel like you might be wrong with your comment. Can't wait for that shit to drop
You were wrong :)
Nice comus shirt
Very happy to finally get a review for this but I wish it would have been with everyone. No disrespect.
Well it's not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Myke C-Town you the only opinion that’s gonna make sense on this one
@@DoctahhOfficial I'm not even saying that. It's just that every single time I upload a solo review someone says "I wish it was everyone." Well, I wish I had a million dollars and Zoe Kravitz's phone number. Life is fucked up.
Myke C-Town 😂😂
Myke C-Town but if you had to choose just one tho.. the cash or the Kravitz?
The mix on Run For Your Life is so dope they have that ice cream truck or whatever coming through and it pans as if the car is like driving by it’s so unique
Such a great project! Club Down with those screams, Daveed’s verse on La Mala Ordina, and that build the second half of All In Your Head are some of my favorite musical moments all year!
There Existed a long wait for the Review
I remember being a big fan of Hamilton and then hearing that Daveed Diggs was also in a hip hop group, and then listening to CLPPNG for the first time and just being so shocked by the change in tone between the two styles.
Their best work yet, the atmosphere on this is incredible
It trips me out that Daveed Diggs was on Kimmy Schmidt haha. So glad this dropped in October.
I'm still at awe with the third verse of Blood on the fang.
Cool review, great to see you hone in on the sonic soundscape they crafted on the album. Stand out track for me is Club Down, Diggs paints the most beautifully worded picture of the uglyness on the other side of the tracks, his cadence, delivery and the way the verses are crafted on this makes his voice sound like a percussive instrument in its own right.
If this album was the horror movie it sounds like, it’d reach through the screen and fucking rip your face off. The trio really makes it feel like that slasher horror is *_REAL._* Obviously there’s real things being talked about in between the sinew and gristle, but I’m talking in a more general sense.
Probably clipping.'s best album. I haven't turned it off for more than a day or two since it dropped. Last time an album pulled me in this hard this fast was Sadistik's Altars.
It’s funny you mention Ramleh given that this defeated a split decision between The Great Unlearning and Consumer Electronics’ Airless Space for my Album of the Year spot. Granted, I haven’t heard Leaving Meaning yet, and I still have a lot of metal and noise to sort through, but hot damn. This album is fiery in its lyricism and icy in its atmosphere and it just gets better and hits harder and closer to home with every listen.
Glad u got onboard with clipping. I thought it odd that they didnt appeal to you back a few years ago. When the horror theme was announced i thought Ctown gotta dig this.
fuck yea! super excited about this ...
The Piano Burning thing actually has a story behind it. Or rather there was an art performance done with burning a piano that carries some sort of message. There is a wikipedia page about that
100 gecs for Out Of My Element? i pray so for the memes
Laracal
PC Music doe oh lord
My favorite track was also "The Show". What did you think of "Club Down"? The soundscape itself is horrifying and I love it. This album is fantastic and I'm super happy that the wait was worth it. Thanks for the review!
Favorite is "The Show" but the best song is probably "Blood of the Fang" imo****
love this album , maybe my favorite album by them so far:)
Definitely up there for AOTY. Glad you dug it.
I've enjoyed this album a whole lot. Production, lyrics all components are crazy and so well fitted together it's insane. All though I was slightly disappointed in overall tone because to me it sounded like their self-titled album. Maybe because I've listened it over and over back in the days and very recently when I was writing an article on it. And I wanted the band to maybe hit another ground and make something completely different and unexpected. But nevertheless it's a great album.
New camera? I maybe just noticed lol but looking fresh mah boi
I appreciate Clipping more than I enjoy them, if that makes sense. I'll listen to this one more though. Did you see the movie Blindspotting?
Best movie of 2018 for me
@@redgenerall28 The rapped monologue at the end was fucking great
That makes total sense and sums up how I feel as well. There are gems on every album they drop but I feel like I’m wading through a lot of not so good stuff to get there.
That’s the total opposite for me I enjoyed Clppng and Splendid and Misery
This new project is honestly just as quality as the others
I really dig this one. Good review. Thanks.
La Mala Ordina 🔥🔥🔥
its so scary
Have you seen their Amoeba “what’s in my bag?” It’s so funny but makes perfect sense, Daveed is pulling shit like Field Mob, meanwhile the two producers are pulling all this super avant garde obscure shit like I love Trout Mask Replica but this shit was like a different level, it would be a lady just making noises with her mouth for the whole album, or some harsh noise shit and I can’t listen to ANYTHING from that genre I have a decently high tolerance for loud music I love Death Grips and Clipping but I cannot do the harsh noise
Yo that's a fucking sick shirt.
This album made me listen to Piano Burning more times than I could ever rationalize.
It made me do it.
It's my favorite album of the year
I've yet to get into clipping. I like some of their songs but I'm not wild about em. I like La Mala Ordina quite a lot, especially as it has Benny the Butcha' and El Camino. Although the harsh noise outro isn't quite my thing lol. I can't quite get with their lyrics, not a fan of overly violent/gorey/weird lyrics. The instrumentals haven't wowed me yet and I'm not a big fan of abrasive/noisy music. But yeah they cool, I might get into them more in the future. I admire them doing that piano burning track.
If you don't like clipping then you'll just like Diggs. Just look up Daveed Diggs and just here stuff from his solo mixtape and singles featuring his friend Rafael Casal like Easy Come Easy Go, Skitzo, Hear Me Coming, Nighttime, Small Things To A Giant, Wash, Fresh From The Hood, The Miles EP and Colin EP from his and Rafael's movie Blindspotting.
@@DaylinThaGemini dude, how did I forget Nighttime? I have to go bump that.
El Camino isn’t much of a spitter he’s got a dope voice and can definitely flow but he’s never had that crazy of wordplay, however I do agree with Benny I do think they fit the concept of the song but they probably still could’ve been a bit lyrically denser. I don’t think the story of the track was even that obvious, they could’ve done it a bit more like 12 Reasons to Die type thing
Run For Ya Life is top 5 songs of the year imo
So fucking good.
I feel like I used to know another song with the exact kind singing "There existed an addiction to blood" and especially the word "blood" in that exact type of singing. Does anybody maybe know what the fuck I am talking about? Maybe it's by Tricky or somebody like that.
Easily one of my favorites from 2019
Do you like the Beatnigs? They were kinda pionners in the industrial hip hop
I wouldn't be surprised it they dropped a Christmas album next😂
And also, Mr. C Town, have u tried to convince the DEHH gang to review it as well. Definitely would like to hear their thoughts as well🤔. Thanks again for the review
Yeah this there best album imo, u reviewing that uncommon nasa album? If not u fw it?
Comus!
story 3 six mafia
You know you're a real horror fan cause you said Fabio Frizzi!!!
Terror management review?
Hey myke dope review. Did u get a chance to check out the new brockhampton project

This is definitely making my Top 10 this year. Brother Ali won't be...sorry.
I actually think that benny's and elcamino's verses are supposed to represent the two bandits who are actually associated with real gangs rather than the wanabee rapper thug that daveed mentions in his first verse.
It doesn't sound like it to me at all. They're both talking about regular piddly dope boy shit.
took you long enough
Pointless comment, let the man take his time to digest things and give us high quality content
@@llamapie24 THANK YOU. As if I didn't already say in the video that I knew it was late.
