    I'm definitely not an expert on this, but my guess is that the algorithm didn't like the Steam playtest video because it sent people out of CZcams.

      Yeah that could definitely be true, they have been trying to get rid of links to other sites I hear. Plus it's under 8 minutes so no chance for double ads.

    i think you are right about the performance on the announcement video, I've also heard that if you upload a video with a shorter total duration than what your average view duration usually is, CZcams will think its underperforming and kill its impressions

    I think the key change is that once you put up a playtest, people wanted to download it and they wishlisted at the same time!
    Once there's a downloadable playtest/demo available, wishlists tend to grow a lot faster!

    Something to consider. Those two videos that caused jumps might be because the thumbnails are more "attractive". Your 6th month comparison video brought me here cause the thumbnail caught my attention in my feed. And when I look at your video list, the other video that caught my attention was the 2nd video you mention.

    I'll be honest I'm not really that into platforms but I did play your game and it was really great! The game feels super polished and the movement feels smooth and responsive. Not to mention the game is unique with its tether mechanic along with its beautiful art! Keep up the good work, I think you really have something great here.

    In my case when I got the notificstion of the video saying the democwas upcon steam, instead lf watchkng the video I went directly to steam, maybe other subbed people did the same thing. It wasn't till later that I watched the video in case there was snything new.

    Maybe it's not so strange that the announcement got less views, people may have seen the title and gone straight to steam to playtest rather than watch the video at all.

      @@OandCoGames yes, directional controls, I don't have a qwerty and changing everytime the layout of my keyboard is not a great experience, also I didn't managed to move the other button where I wanted. I don't have a controller, but I will try to get one to test the game in proper conditions.

    censoring the wishlist numbers? seriously lol? everybody can estimate it based on the steamdb follower graph anyways and without that it just makes the entire video so pointless cuz this might as well be 25 wishlists for all we know

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah, sometimes publishers don’t like it when your game’s wishlist count is public and we don’t want to rule out that option just yet.

    • @Tbjbu2
      @Tbjbu2 Před 2 měsíci

      @@OandCoGames not sure where you heard of that, but I'v talked to tons of publishers in the last few years, and nobody ever mentioned that, sounds like a myth lol

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  Před 2 měsíci

      Hmmmm hopefully it is a myth. I heard it from Thomas Brush’s channel. Side note, I just checked our steam db follower chart and it is absurdly low lol. Multiply that number by 15 and you’ll be a lot closer to our actually wishlist count.

    One thing I just don't get is, why hide the wishlists?
    I see a lot of CZcams devs who don't show ANY numbers about their studio, which, sure, is a move. But here you're extremely open in terms of the CZcams analytics, CTR, and revenue. There's no value for the viewer in terms of hiding wishlists, and it's not like there's no way to estimate wishlists, either through websites, or in my experience a 0.8% conversion from a devlog view to wishlist.
    An awesome uptick on your graph could be an increase of 50, or 5000 wishlists, and the viewers have no idea what it may actually be, and if the effort linked to that marketing effort is worth it.
    I'd guess it's around 2k right now, which is definitely solid, especially for the genre you're in (thanks to your outstanding art). One tip I'd suggest here, there's a BIG difference between "normal" wishlists vs devlog wishlist conversion rates. 19% is for games that market in the more "traditional" path of press, reddit, events,... Devlog games generally launch with a 2.5- 5% conversion rate in the first 3 months. It can be soulcrushing if you don't see that coming when you release your game and none of your budgeting works out anymore. -M

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for the excellent insights here! I think a big reason “devlog games” have low conversions to sales from wishlists is because Steam prioritizes momentum. Getting a ton of wishlists in the 4 months before release is a much bigger deal than the slow trickle of wishlists from a long-standing devlog in terms of getting on steam’s homepage.
      The reason we didn’t show exact numbers here- Thomas Brush had mentioned in one of his videos that some publishers don’t like games having their wishlists public. While we’ll likely still choose to self-publish, we don’t want to rule out publishers just yet.
      Still, we’re certainly more drawn to the side of being transparent, so maybe we’ll share wishlist numbers when we hit 100K ;)
