I just had my A4 in for service yesterday. They mentioned I needed a new cover gasket as well and they wanted to charge me close to 700 dollars for the replacement… You just saved me money sir! I really appreciate the quality of this video and how well laid out everything was! You just made a subscriber out of me :)
I'm happy I was able to help you save $. Thanks for watching and welcome to the crafty family!
@BlueManeStudios $700?? That’s insane. I’m grateful for CZcams videos and internet how-to guides. In the years I have owned my A4 I have replaced the thermostat, coolant flange, cam follower, and resealed the fuel injectors. I hate to think what the dealer would have charged for parts plus $150/hr labor.
Why 700 dollars for a gasket. Did mine for around $ 100. I'd do it myself but I'm still learning
700 dollars for just the valve gasket job seriously? I think that job it's between 250 to most 400. I'm taking a guess. I think they wanted to charge you 700 to replace the whole valve cover that it's around 450 genuine Audi if buy it at ECS tunning. That's still a lot. They probably get an OE replacement Valve cover for 250 and the rest goes to the mechanic. I'm thinking to do the valve gasket job by myself but it seems difficult. Removing the hose and the sequence bolts torque specs seems a little complicated. I would also have to buy a few tools if I want to do it easier and correct.
That's crazy expensive 😢
Fantastic video. Only comment I'd add is that people should check that the valve cover holds pressure blowing from the front one of the multiple PCV ports to the larger clamped hose going to the turbo. There is an internal channel that apparently cracks on many valve covers which leads to all kinds of oil consumption problems. If yours doesn't hold pressure, the fix is to replace the valve cover. I was lucky and no such issues so it was a super straightforward job just like the video shows very clearly - well done!
Oh man, this is a quality channel. How come no one is talking about it. Great work!
Much appreciated! thanks for the acknowledgment.
Excellent video! Very easy to follow and clearly photographed. Thanks!
I'm happy you found this video helpful, thanks for watching!
Excellent presentation. I enjoy how you give us DIYers the confidence to go for it. Thank you, Sir
Much respect! I'm happy you gained the confidence to do it, thanks for watching.
This was the best mechanical video I’ve ever watched. Thank you so much!!!
Much respect, I'm happy you found this video helpful!
You make it look so easy
Can’t tell you how great this is! So amazing. I’m going through all your DIY’s and I’ll perform every one of them. I do unfortunately have a parasitic battery drain. Not even Audi can fix it. Very frustrating
Checked on ur alternator?
@@Lmaosmd hey, actually, it turned out to be the brake pressure switch. All it needed was a new switch and I guess the brake lights were on all night and draining the battery.
Great videos. Clear and concise instructions. Thanks for your help and recommendations for repairs on my B7. You Da Man!
Much respect I'm happy you're getting value from my content! thanks for watching.
You’re the best. You make everything look so much simpler than it probably is.
Much respect! Lol
This looks like it might be the solution to my leak issue! Thank you so much for the easy to follow video.
Much respect, I'm happy you were able to fix your leak.
Great video! I enjoy working on my B7. Now to fix my oil leak!
Thanks! Yea, better to fix sooner than later
Thanks for this perfect video! Just bought my wife an A4 B7. The leak is not bad yet but I ordered the gasket anyway. Awesome 💪
I'm happy you found this video helpful, thanks for watching! Enjoy the B7
I just replaced my gasket. It was so dry that it Broke in pieces. How is that possible? Also my spark plugs are super rusted. How should I replace those? Im afraid to turn them loose.
I like the idea that you didn't use torque ratchet! Thanks for sharing and very good clear to understand video :-)
Much respect, thanks for watching!
I have to do that to my A4 TDI Cabriolet.
There was a constant little drip, but that "little drip" was because the oil was coating everything and slowly running down. I noticed puddles of oil in the bolts on the rocker box.
So... I'll try this 👍👍
Really appreciate the video. I was told I may have to replace the actual valve cover as there may be a crack but may start with just a gasket.
Yea, the gasket is a common failure, due to age or extreme climate conditions.
I was told the same thing so I'm hoping it is gasket, did you get it fixed?
@@LARYNX4OUR5IVE I did get it fixed and it was not terribly hard to do. I did order the cover that came with the gasket and did the swap. Total DIY.
Greta video ! Swapping mine out tomorrow on my 06 a4. Is there a specific order when tightening the bolts back down on the valve cover ? And do I need to torque to a certain spec ?
Good and easy follow. I have to do the same on my A4 wagon b7. Great video. Actually not hard at all and shops will always you for that job that so easy. Thank you.
Thank you for this video, need to do this on mine ASAP. Don’t feel like getting charged half a leg at the mechanics
I'm glad I was able to help! Yea, definitely do it yourself and save.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds My gasket was in about 10 pieces upon taking the cover off. Thankfully found the part that fell into the engine as I was taken it off
@@AaronyWarony Yea, that gasket change was over due.
Jump cuts were very much appreciated my man, thanks for this video n savin me some $
I'm happy you got value from this video, thanks for watching!
Absolute king
much respect 💪🏽
This is amazing, I was wondering what was causing all the build up around it on mine
Yea, these gaskets are known for leaking.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds have the same problem! I like keeping my engine clean and detailed. This issue was driving me crazy. One question 🙋 why not an OEM Audi gasket… price 🆚 performance?
@@marcoantonio2600 I've used this brand before and it's pretty good. The price might be cheaper than the OEM but the quality is just as good from my experience.
Great video. Thanks! You are a great You Tube auto repair presenter!
Much respect! Thanks for acknowledging my work.
Excellent video!!! Thanks, bro!!!
Much respect and thanks for watching 🙏🏾
I literally did the work on my own cause of this video.Thanks.

Thank you, super simple to replace after watching this video
Class A video bratha!

Great video mate, keep it up! I think I will attempt to do it and If I manage then I will keep my car otherwise it gets scrapped :)
Thanks! Once you follow the steps you should be good to go.
Torque specs? Any other “while you’re there” stuff, like testing the coil packs?
yes
Thank you so much!!! I'm not much of a mechanic but I can do this! Save much money!
I'm happy I was able to help you save! Thanks for watching.
Bro made it look easy, make me wanna change the gasket on my A6.
Just bought an 08. Wanted to see how hard of a job it would be and, it's a hell of a lot easier to work on than my infinity g35
Thanks bud was looking around to see if it was worth the job. This was the video i needed to know. 👍

Thanks for saving my money 🎉🎉👌✌️
Hey Great video. I am about to change the gasket on my a3 same year, and looks quite similar. I do have my concerns that you didnt use any sealant on the half moons. How is it holding up over the years?
Excellent, Thanks'
much respect 💪🏽
Excellent video 👌 Thanks!
Thank you!
Brother you inspired me to fix mine
Nice. Yea, fix yours for sure.
Would it have been easier to have put the PCV on while the cover was off? Thanks nice video.
You are marevlous! Thank you brother. Do you always post videos with audi repair?
Much respect! Yea, there is a b7 audi on the channel that I always make content on.
this was a very clear and good video.
Much respect, thanks for watching!
Great video! Detailed and concise just the way I like it. I'm gonna attempt on my own A4.
Question: Is it necessary/suggested to apply sealant to the gasket and/or mating surfaces?
Continue your superb work.
Much respect! Nah, no need apply any sealant, the new gasket will make the proper seal.
Yardee?
@@cyentifik5836 yea, lol
Big up!!
🇯🇲🇹🇹
Awsome clip!! Do you have info about problems with error code P0011 and P000A on the same car?
Wouldn’t you want swap out the valve cover bolts as well since they also have o rings to it?
I need to find a mechanic like you in Orlando 🥺
Hopefully you find one soon 🙏🏾
Loved it , thanks a lot .
I'm happy you got value from this, thanks for watching!
Nice job
Thank you!
Very detailed video.. Thank you!
Much respect and thanks for watching!
great video!! did a failed pcv-valve cause this problem or was it something else? thanks
Thanks! Nah, this gasket was just old which caused it to leak.
This makes the task look a lot less intimidating - thanks
Yea, once you follow the steps, you'll be good to go. I'm happy you found this video helpful, Thanks for watching!
Did you have to looser/remove the four screws along the back edge of the cover too? Mine has 4 horizontal screws on the firewall side.
Is there a secondary valve cover? Under the valve cover is a cam holder or bracket? Does that have a gasket as well?
Thank you!
Much respect!
Was a very good video thank you
Thanks for watching!
Just got my recalled airbags replaced in my b7 a4 and they quoted me $4600 in repairs and i bought the parts for $500 off ecs and surfed youtube and did all the work myself and saved the labor cost. The only thing that eludes me is the low windsheild washer fluid sensor replacement...
I can only imagine if its anything like the windshield washer pump- you have to pull the whole front clip and intercooler...
@Frank Burkett thats exactly right. And ive driven enough beaters to be able to deal with a low washer fluid warning light everytime i drive lol
I’m looking to get me a 2005 A4 avant- Quattro wagon here in the US. 6 speed manual.
Yeah it's gonna get done now have some leakage . Have a good one.
Gracias suscrito
Would it be a bad idea to use a thin layer of rtv (liquid gasket)?
Hey will this stop the car from having a rough shake & idle I have a Audi A4 09
So no torque specs or specific bolts to start tightening down ?
Very good sir
Great video!
Much respect!
Awesome video and explanation!!
Thanks so much
Just bought an 07 A4 Quattro cabriolet convertible nearly sight unseen and have had some mishaps that can be overcome however at this point still love it!!
Bad coil pack led to misfire #4, changed it and noticed oil in the spark plug and led me to you!
Much respect, I'm happy you found your way here and get the help you needed!
All b7's have the same issues at around the same amount of Miles.I just replaced my valve cover gasket. It was pretty easy thanks to this video.
Is there anyway to remove the gasket if a bolt has been snapped off?
Hi i have a question, i did a valve cover swap and a power cooler swap, about a week later it started leaking, i went under the hood and checked then noticed 2 of the screws on the top left werent even tightned , it was my fault for not paying attention, i tightned it and it started driving a bit better but the next day it kept leaking but slowly when i stop the car i notice oil and coolant at the bottom, milky inside the oil cover. Did an oil change drained all liquids , oil was completely black , made no difference. I then opened the gasket tried to dry it and sealed it back with a gasket sealer, worked way better for about 2 days but i can feel it slowly dying again, i have no other issues other than that, any tips ? i plan on getting a new gasket that is completely dry to try that instead of reusing the old one with the seal, it was still a bit oily but i tried my best to dry it,, thank you for your videos.
Did you install new bolts seals or no? ???
Very good 👍
Much respect👍🏽
Awesome 👏
Just disconnect the two hoses to the pcv ,so much easier
So my oil looks frothy is this the reason? 2008 a4 b72.0t thanks
Hi, can i use a 2009 a4 valve cover on a 2007 a4 model? Thanks
Hello, when the packaging is damaged, does it cause a spark plug to get wet with oil? Or it's probably another problem.
Yes, if the gasket is damaged it can cause oil to leak into the sparkplug tube, onto the sparkplugs.
Thanks sir
Respect!
Do I have to drain the oil first? Or can I do the Job on the spot at home as the car is my daily
Nah, no need to drain the oil.
Hi, can a bad valve cover cause excessive oil consumption? Thanks
It’s most likely faulty piston rings. Audi has already acknowledged this.
Consumption vs leak, we replaced our oil filter housing after 144k miles, it was badly warped and gaskets were brittle.
@@hayatot8610 Same thing happened with mine just after 200K
Yes, I’ve heard it said that the silver cover, which unfortunately I currently have, has a tendency to crack internally, causing oil consumption issues. I’m going to have to attempt this repair on my vehicle.
Good job but why didn't you torque the cover bolts to 10 nm
cause muscle
Did you use new bolts.???
Nah, same bolts.
This is FSI ENGINE CORRECT? How do you tell if its TFSI
Yes, it's a FSI. I just study the way the engine looks, that's how I'm able to identify it.
I have a question I'm thinking of purchasing the 2008 Audi A4 quattro 2.0 original OEM Audi valve gasket kit that comes with new screws, valve and PVC gasket just in case the screws are messed up and make sure I completely stop any oil leaks while I'm at it just change the pcv gasket since it comes with the kit. When changing the screws does it come out easy? When changing the pcv gasket remove and install like the valve gasket right? I want to make sure I do the job the right way. what size of the hose clamp I need to buy once breaking the original Audi clamp? Do you recommend to change the oil after this job? I recently change the coils and spark plugs on my car since I have the oil leak problem do you think it's good to change the spark plugs again since it have oil on them? I was thinking of changing them again. Hope you answer all my questions sorry for asking so many questions but I want to make sure I do a great job.
The hose clamp should be slightly larger then the hose, no need to change the oil as long as its with in the mileage range, also no need to change the plugs if they are good just wipe them off and check the plug gap for good measure- .032 I believe.
I have a few questions when changing the valve gasket. Do you have to replace the valve gasket screws bolts? I think it's 14. Do you have to thight the screws bolts in a sequence using a torque wrench? What would be the sequence? You make this job look so easy but I think I would mess up everything. Lol
Nah, I reused the screws once they are in a good condition. There is a torque sequence and torque specs for the cover, you could find the specific details if you search for the manual online. But, I've done a lot of valve cover jobs, so I now just tighten by hand. Lol, nah you shouldn't mess anything up, once you take your time.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds Thank you so much for taking your time to do the video and time to message back. I did look for the manual to see what's the torque specification but some say is 7 ft lbs of torque others say is 8 ft lbs and I seen 10 ft lbs. Now I'm more confuse. I also read that you have to tighten the bolts 3 times in that criss cross pattern I seen the diagram. I think you start with the 1 and 2 then go down to 3 and so on until you do all 14 bolts 3 times in sequence and you torque it the 3 time. I have a 3/8 torque wrench that don't have 7 nor 8 ft pounds it starts with 10-80 ft pounds. Can you help find the specific torque and should I buy another torque wrench that starts with 5 ft lbs of torque?
I just pulled my A4 out of storage. Needs oil change and new gaskets. Maybe more we'll see.
Hopefully that's the only thing needed. I got a few a4 maintenance/repair video's to help if needed.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds that's good to hear thanks man maybe if I have a question I'll ask you
👍👍👍
pcv oem nummer ?
Do you think i might need to change the gasket, if its leaking oil throughout the screws?
Yes, the gasket is what seal the screw holes and prevent the oil from leaking out.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds thanks for your video.
Changed mine today but I got a red oil pressure light come up on the dash straight after???? Any thoughts mate?
Start by double checking that the gasket did not get pinched and all the hoses and fitting were reinstalled and double check all the valve cover bolts are snugged down.
Hi, I got a question. At 9:00, is that a torque wrench you use or can you use a normal screwdriver to tighten the screws? Thanks
I used a torx socket and a ratchet and tighten by hand. You can use a torque wrench with the socket if you wish.
After doing this I am getting a misfire in the car. Any ideas?
I’m having difficulty finding parts for 2008 Audi A4 2.0 any recommendations?
What parts are you looking for?
So all you need to replace is the rubber seal when you have a leak?
Yea, pretty much.
The valve cover screws do they they have a torque value?
10NM
Whats the torque spec on the bolts holding the valve cover on?
10nm
My audi b7 2005 cut off while driving now doesn't wanna start even to swing starter what is a problem
If it shuts off while driving, it's more than likely not a starter problem. I'd suggest checking the Alternator first.
Where did you order the gasket
Link in the description
Do you think is the same process to change the gasket of an A4 2013 ??
Nah, it's a different motor and different process.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds thanks 🙏🏻
Hey, I have a question that i think you might be able to answer. I own the same car and engine as you are working on here. I need to locate the engine number that is stamped into the engine block, but no one can seem to locate it. would you be able to describe the location please? great video btw.
my engine number starts with BWE if that any help, and its a 2007 2.0t a4 s-line quattro.
I just checked an engine that I have laying around. I wasn't able to locate the number, there is too much things bolted onto the block currently. I'd have to remove all the accessories to have a better view.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds thanks for the reply! That seems to be my problem too. Ive never had this much trouble locating the stamp on the block, I’m about to take it to the roads department to get registration. Fingers crossed that they put it through without physically seeing the stamp. Keep up the good work. Cheers
