      Awesome! We had hoped to have the full review out by now, but UPS lost our battery (no fault of RoadRunner). So we just had time to get this out, then I have to jump into Best of 2024, and then we'll come back to a full test of the RX7 with all of the numbers. Range should be good, since it's a 10% larger battery than the GTR! -Paul

    When you riding or driving something and it feels like you are going slower than you actually are, that's a sign of superior engineering, you can put the best tires and suspension on scooter, and it will have speed wobbles or feel squirrelly at high speeds, props to Road Runner for nailing it on their first effort.

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 11 dny +1

      That's a great question. The first one to really impress me was the NAMI BURN-E. It was the first we tested with adjustable hydraulic shocks. All of the scooters in the category have pretty good suspension. The one which has evolved the least, used to be the best and that's the Wolf King Series. Still good, but really underdamped especially in the back. The Inmotion RS is pretty good, but I liked it better when I put NAMI shocks on it. I think the Roadster felt a little better than the RS, but it was pretty close. The Teewing Mars is very very good, and the RX7 is also very very good, but I'd have to get them side by side to be sure. I think with the stock tires they both come with the RX7 wins though, because the PMT's make a noticeable difference. Oddly the very best suspension isn't one I was thinking of until you asked this question, but for sure it's the Dualtron X Limited. Those shocks are easily 4 times the mass of the shocks of all the others and the shock travel is ridiculously long. It makes the scooter feel a little divey if you're trying to ride it super hard, but in terms of just being ultimately plush and comfortable, the X Limited wins... but it's not the sportiest because it is a little bit floaty if you're really trying to manhandle the scooter. But it's 100% appropriate for the scooter, because banging it through left-right combos isn't what it was designed to do, as far as I can tell. -Paul

      Paul might be nice, go to a motorcycle store and plan on spending $1,000 on as much safety gear as possible. Consider this like you would a motorcycle, every 10 mph of speed equals 1mm of flesh off your body in road rash, not to mention impacts. Foot, knee, hands, elbows, back, hip and head protection is a must. You're taller than you would be on a motorcycle so those areas can take a beating. edit: $1,000 is probably the minimum, be safe out there, it's always cheaper than a stay in the hospital and or weeks of pain while healing.

    Even through the video my first impression is that the build quality looks amazing. I would love to ask the designer and engineering team why they chose a single stem with a steering dampener instead of a dual stem setup which tends to offer more stability at the higher speeds. Otherwise, I really appreciate the split rim and motor removal setup. Changing tires on scooters is my most dreaded task, so anything that makes it easier is a massive win in my book. 👍👍

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 11 dny +2

      Good question. I think the dual stems are more challenging for the folding mechanism, though there are some good double-stem-latch designs out there. The Dualtron X and Roadster, of course, also went single stem, but both use dampers. The higher inertia of the dual stems does seem to reduce the need for steering dampers. Steering-head angle also comes into play. -Paul

      That's a great subject. We have over 150 of them right now and we're walking sideways through the two rooms to get through them all!
      Because of the weight, there aren't too many options that are inexpensive and also safe for you and your scooters (depending on which type of scooters of course). My favorite cheap-and-easy solution for doubling up the scooter density is what we did at the Skip (scooter rental) repair warehouse. We used heavy duty folding tables (Rubbermaid makes good ones, but your local hardware chain probably has something good too) and then parked 3 or 4 scooters under the table and put 3 or 4 scooters on top of the table. -Paul

    Paul, what is your take on the first batch owners getting tubed tires? Is it worth the upgrade to tubeless? It is apparently going to be pricey to get there since it would seem the motors are going to change on the second batch to accomodate tubeless... Is it really just puncture resistance or is there a performance benefit to it? Thanks

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 12 dny +1

      Great question. The tires themselves will be the same, since these are tubeless tires with tubes inside to accommodate the split rims. The advantage to split rims is easier tire changes, but the advantage to no tubes is you never get a pinch-flat if you hit a hard edge. Normal punctures are about the same, in fact with tubes inside of a tubless tire, you've got one more layer. But tubeless definitely eliminates the pinch flats.
      Since the rims can come off of the motor, I was hoping it would be a rim-swap for those who wanted to change from split+tubes to solid+tubeless and not a motor swap, but I don't know. It sounds like you might have more recent info than I do though. -Paul

    • @jabo5779
      @jabo5779 Před 12 dny

      @@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I was hoping for the same - an easy way to get there while still using the same motors. The response I got was that it is 'most likely that the first batch owners can convert to tubeless tires by swapping the motors meant for tubeless tires.' That didn't sound like a confident response, so I am going to hold out hope for a less wallet crushing way to get there. I don't feel like I'm losing any performance though, but I don't ride all the scooters you do. If it's just pinch flat resistance I'm sacrificing, I am fine with the current setup. Although, if there is a way to get there and use the existing motors, that could be a cool upgrade video for you to do!

    Hey Paul, any special tools you know of that would allow us to adjust preload on these shocks easily? They are in such a tough spot to adjust preload that I feel like the only option is to remove them, adjust, and reinstall. Unless there is some swival joint spanner that can get in there at an angle? Thanks. I'm 290 pounds, and the scooter feels okay stock, but i would like to play with the preload a bit to see... what is the point of the kke's if we can't easily tune them? All we can do is turn the rebound knob, but I would argue that preload is just as important.

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 19 hodinami +1

      Wow, great point. I’m so glad you asked because I’m working on the review right now, and I have the scooter at home with me. I’ll go look.
      Ok, I looked
      You can adjust rear spring preload with just your hand, by grabbing the whole spring and the adjuster and twisting. This only works up to a certain amount of preload because it gets harder to turn as you crank it up. The front one looks really tricky. It would be easier to adjust if the shock was flipped end to end so the red knob was inward and the adjuster outward. NAMI used to ship an adjuster tool that fits the KKE shocks. Maybe RoadRunner will start to include these.
      I don’t know if there would be any bad impact of mounting the front shock this way, in terms of the hydraulic fluid inside, because it would be slightly inverted. -Paul

    "nylon" bias ply tires still have rubber tread, the internal construction consists of nylon bands.
    The radial PMT's will have a different internal construction, and a much softer rubber compound. In the case of the Stradale B, it's a 65A durometer rubber, which is quite soft.

      Thanks for the clarification. I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching for info on how much of a Nylon scooter tire is made out of nylon and not found any great source material. Where did you find this info. I’d love to read more. -Paul

    • @LL.Johnson
      @LL.Johnson Před 11 dny

      @@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I've been researching this as well. I wanted to clarify to myself whether or not this is a community misconception, or I am fundamentally wrong in my understanding of tire construction. I've come to the conclusion that nylon is a reference to a bias ply tire with internal nylon bands. I'm not sure if PMT uses steel bands in their radials, but I'd be willing to find out by cutting one in half.
      I will be swapping out my PMT's for a new set pretty soon. I'm interested in analyzing the elemental composition of the CST's vs PMT's using an SEM-EDX. Not sure if this method would work, but would be interesting to try. When our SEM comes back from repair, I'll give it a try.

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 11 dny +2

      Great question. The X-limited is cool, but is just on another planet in terms of size. It’s almost 40 pounds heavier than the Roadster. Based on that alone, the Roadster is going to be a lot easier to live with. If you wanted to do 3-hour long rides, the X limited is more comfortable. For sport riding, the Roadster is more agile. -Paul

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 11 dny +1

      In terms of the build, I love the carbon fiber of the Roadster and that it’s not as complicated. The X-limited has so many light buttons and a whole separate battery for the lights that needs its own charger. I would say that the X-limited is more solid, except that one of the wiring harnesses is supposed to be attached to the frame with this snap-in grommet and it won’t stay snapped in. -Paul

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  Před 12 dny +3

      That’s what we get on most scooters is a speedo that reads higher than the data logger. Mine was set to a wheel diameter of 8 (shows up as P0 = 80)
      When I set it to 85 it was closer, but still a little low. If I go to 90 (9 inches) it should be correct or maybe a little high. Yours is probably set to 11 inches.
      Here are the rest
      P1 = 72 (volts)
      P2 = 30 magnets
      P3 = 999 (I think this is odometer reset, but don’t know what 999 means)
      P4 = 01 (miles or km. 1 = miles)
      P5 = 0 for zero start
      P6 = 0 cruise control off
      P7 = 1 take off strength strongest the manual says it goes up to 2, but it’s just 0 or 1
      P8 = 100 for 100% top speed available
      P9 = 2 for electronic brake strength 2 is strongest. It says default is 1 but I don’t remember changing this one.

      Thing is the scooters Paul reviews are ones people can buy. The Rion, while it looks premium, have a difficult time delivering their scooters to people that want them. Questionable company and seem to make only demo scooters and not attainable scooters for the people. It's why you rarely see any on CZcams besides the price point

      OMG yes! The tricky part is that to be fully accurate on dual motor scooters, I’d need to get both wheels going at the same time, so I’d be fully riding it on the dyno. I suppose taking the motors out and bolting them to a dyno would be safer. -Paul

      I think it is, especially at the introductory price. Performance wise it's up there with the very best, and components-wise, we haven't seen anything like it. I still need to spend some quality time with it during the range test to get a full feel for the RX7. We'll have a complete review with range test, braking etc in 2 or 3 weeks. -Paul

      For accelerating, leaning forward definitely helps. Once I get up to speed the acceleration is very small and I switch to making my wind profile as small as possible. At over 50 mph the difference between crouching and standing up is about 2 to 3 mph for me. -Paul
