It's almost hard for kids today to understand that back then there was NOTHING else like Michael Jackson. He made the blueprint that all popular pop artists today follow. His dance moves, his vocal ticks, the way he moved and handled himself, the way he sang, nothing like that had ever happened before MJ to the extent that he did it. You can thank MJ for The Weeknd, Usher, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, you name it. He also did it during a time when it was a lot more difficult to be a black artist in America, he broke the color barrier to get Billie Jean and Thriller onto MTV, that was a first.
Yeah, you get that vibe when you can watch any of his videos for the first time and you feel like you've seen it before. Cultural osmosis, spoofs, and imitations...

I am 17 and it is crazy to think about how it was back. In the 80s, when this song was released.
It was a lot of fun. I went over my friend's house to watch the premiere. And everyone on every news program was talking about it and I remember people in general all very impressed with the story and dancing (everyone already knew the song because the album had already been out for about a year). Nowadays we don't have any major events that we all simultaneously share anymore and that's a shame.

As part of my theatre degree I have been taking a dance workshops class. In the spirit of the holiday we learned the dance. As someone who isn’t a dancer, it was so much fun. It wasn’t perfect, but my class had a blast. Love the choreography here
