If you're experiencing some kind of engagement drop you're most likely what's called "shadow banned" on Instagram. There's certain behavior that you absolutely have to avoid to not get shadow banned. In this video I'll show you parts of my research for that topic.

heyDominik I wish to know if I'm shadow banned. My last post reached 5 people from hashtags 😕 I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. First of all I never used DM groups. Second I don't use any other app apart from instagram itself. And moreover I'm always writing kind meaningful comments to people. Even they say they like to read my comments. This was awesome, thanks Dominik. I didn't think I was shadowbanned as I have a good engagement, especially comments (I get between 150 and 300 per post and have not even 6000 follower) People like me but I really had a hard time to get followers. I just thought I suck (low self esteem problems...) But I followed your first video and deleted all old hashtags (when I was new I had no idea that reusing the same hashtags could shadowban you) . Also I changed my behaviour. I like and comment all post of people I follow (not too many) but I used to to it all at once. Then I changed to spread it across the day. Only two days later I couldn't believe what happened and I got 100 followers over night. So I probably was shadow banned for not even doing stupid things (I can't stand DM groups, it's like cheating)

Btw, I post only art/drawings.. Shouldn't I be able to hashtag drawing and art over and over again without getting shadowbanned? It sounds weird... If we have a consistent theme, ofc the hashtags will be reused a lot.

Not that I currently know of. The pictures are showing up in the hashtag (also when I check on another account), but with my art account I can clearly see that my posts are featured on the top section of some tags too... But not when I check on my other accounts on the same hashtag. The post simply isn't there but only in the "recent" section of the hashtag. As if instagram actually is lowering my reach and removing me from the top hastag section. It's wierd.

I definitely agree with your theories and I think there are a lot of actions nowadays that lead to lowered reach. I think IG is lowering my reach, possible due to a mix of: unfollowing people too early if I don't like their account [probably the major factor], liking too many photos and possibly even commenting too much, although my comments are never emojis or copy-paste.

Yes you can but its hard¡ you need to have big engagement in your post from your own followers, I got banned 2 monts ago, got out by doing a giveaway, lots of people participate with likes and commets, that way instagram see that you have real followers, and starts to increase your reach

I got shadowban but I don’t know why 3weeks ago I got phone number verification then I done.After that my account photos refresh loading from 0 to update one. few days after my photos all hashtags not worked. I keep reported and quitted IG and deleted apps for few days, after 2 weeks it back to normal. But 2 days later (yesterday night)I got phone number verification again and I done it again... 2 hours later I found that my hashtags all not work again. I don’t know what happen?! But I’m sure after verification finished my photos are reloading from 0 pic to update one.
I’m thinking if I using the same hashtags often? But if my photos are travel so I’m using the similar or same group should be no problem.
Then I switch my ac back to personal because I’m not sure is it problem on business user.
Now I don’t know how to do and just reporting. So sad !

Good one man.. I agree. Every time I try to get cute my reach drops.. When I just focus on content and engaging with my followers, it increases. I'm actually glad it's this way.. Don't have to waste time trying to hack the system and just enjoy myself creating content and chatting with my followers.. like you said, in the long run I will be better off then those big spammy accounts. In fact I already see I get better results then some 10k pages with just my 1600 followers haha

Dude, I do not think you know what you are talking about! There are plenty of IG accounts that spam the shit to people all day. IG shadowbans business accounts so they will pay to get exposure. Simple as that! It is all about dollars and cents my friend.

Firstly you are hilarious, your sense of humour totally keeps me watching 😆. So I think I’ve been shadow banned because I kept using the same 30 Beauty hashtags over and over for months as didn’t realise this wasn’t a good idea, also kinda switched my account from being predominantly music based to now predominantly Beauty so half my followers don’t gaf, and now my engagement has dramatically dropped. Am I screwed? 🤔 @MzChristinaMaria

I individually go down someone in my niche followers and like 3 of their pictures and comment on the 4th picture that’s related to their photo so i don’t look like a bot, i mean i’ve been going since april and i’ve got 1.1k followers now i can honestly say they’ve got to be organic cause i’ve not done the follow unfollow trick.

Yes, i just did recently. I was using a bot, totally my fault, I get it and that's why I got banned maybe but its been a week since that. I have promoted my posts by advertising- read that it helps with the shadowban lift and its been a day since then but my ban hasn't been lifted yet. I don't know what to do now lol. Help?

So im definitely flagged/shadowbanned. I saw a neat way of getting "clout" by commenting a long award speech for being first comment. I would copy n paste to on many posts. Would even get a "cant post these comments" error after a few but with time it would let me again. THATS when i figured out my hashtags dont work. My posts dont appear on the tags. I stopped the sketchy stuff but im wondering how long do these flags last?

Yes I am and it happened after I got a notice saying I posted a comment that they didn't like after that my hashtags wouldn't reach its domain I know this for sure because I did a post which I deleted matter of fact I deleted all the ones that didn't work but I only put 1 hashtag that no one has used, went there and no post I even refreshed it my profile name is str8upjiggonthabeat
I was doing shout for shout with a guy on Instagram and the video I posted from him had 4 secs of him smashing some chick mixed in with other vial videos of him edited togtherc and I forgot it up and fell asleep forgot to deleted the post and I think that caused me to be shadow cuz my engagement dropped badly.

My engagement took a extra nosedive since I started the 1.80 strategy. I don't copy and paste or anything. If I see a banana I will say; "Hey what a nice banana. I was looking into bananas too. I think I will get one next week." I'm gaining followers though... Finally again... And people seem to really like my stuff. When they eventually see it. 😂

Nah, just every-time i'm in the bus. Or buying bananas... And thinking of 90 normal comments a day that relate to the picture takes some time. So it's not that easy to overdo it. The funny thing is, it seems it is always around the same period in the month. And I paid for promoted post in the past around that time. So maybe they are trying to stimulate me to spend more money... And yes, I'm a real person. :P You've had too much dutch coffee haha. :P

Hello Dominik ! Your video has been so useful for me, thanks so much for sharing your tips. However, I still don't know if my instagram account @unvlogueurtimide is shadowbanned or if it has just low engagement.
I have a photography account since October 2017 and i have about 2700 followers. I usually post a new photo every 3 days (I use 30 hashtags (with less than 100 000 posts on them) and tag 20 people in each post) but they are still showing up in hashtags. Since 1 month, i change the hashtags everytime i post a new picture. 10 hours after posting the photo, i usually get around 80-100 likes. And since September 2018, I struggle to grow up on Instagram. I never did the follow-unfollow method and never used bots, but my account has been blocked twice for an hour because I put too many likes. It happened in march/april 2018. Maybe that caused my account to be shadowbanned (or to have low engagement on my posts ?) I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me if i am shadow banned or not.
