An incredible place. The Lincoln chair and Kennedy car truly are surreal. Almost baffling that they're not in the Smithsonian. Thanks for the upload :-)

The Henry Ford is a great place to have the Kennedy car especially because of the huge auto exhibits they have there, especially the presidential car lineup.

A few years ago my wife and I went on vacation to Dearborn Michigan and went to the Henry Ford Museum. I was totally blown away by the size of the locomotive. We also went to Fairlane, the Henry Ford estate, and Greenfield Village. All three of these places need to be visited by anyone who goes to Dearborn for a vacation.
The Rouge Factory tour is worth a trip too. We got tickets to all of it from the campground we stayed in.
The Edsel Ford estate is nearby and also absolutely worth a visit.

i don't know how your video showed up in my feed, but the henry ford (including all venues) is a pure gem. i wish more locals would take advantage of this attraction. a lot of my peers think it's a place "for kids" because they remember field trips there. it's not. i call it another world right down the street. i love it.

Great video that I had not seen. The JFK limo took me back to 1963. I was 12 and will never forget that tragedy in American history. The nation was glued to their television sets. It made me shudder to see that car again. ☮️
I've always been so fascinated with Kennedys assasination that I discovered Lyndon Johnson had it immediately cleaned, repainted, and put back to service as soon as the murder took place. It eerily continued to serve from Johnsons administration all the way up to Carters presidency. Very morbid if u ask me.
It had to with cost, it was more affordable to refurbish this car than to replace it.
@@patrickmccarthy7877i read into it further and understand this car was completely stripped down to its last nut and bolt, so not only did it get repainted and upholstered, but it also receieved a complete overhaul down to the very last detail after J.F.K. waa shot. Regardless of all of that, I would STILL be requesting a new car if i were president. That would give me the heeby geeebys while leaving me with no choice but to refuse to go anywhere near it. Baaaaaad mojo.

@@vaccumsealed Me neither, knowing that my boss and friend was murdered in that car. If Kennedy was still with us, he would be 105. None of us are getting out of here alive, but I would rather die of old age.

Thank you for the tour! I have not been to this museum since I was in high school, 1972.
I've lived in the Detroit area for 25 years and have yet to visit the Henry Ford Museum. There are a lot of abandoned factories in Detroit you could visit while you're in the area.
I drove passed some of them I think. Endless exploring possibilities there.

No doubt you could spend most of the day wondering around this museum, you've shown some very interesting items and filmed them at a reasonable speed without rushing and moving on before the viewer can focus on each object

My grandfather has restored cars. My favorite car was a Chevrolet from 1921. It was so beautiful. He did everything himself, it was unbelievable.

On 10/12/62, I saw Pres. Kennedy & Jackie riding in this same Lincoln Cont. as I
was preparing to march with my High School, in the Columbus Day Parade, in NYC!
Unexpectedly, they came before the parade & disappeared just as fast! Since then,
I have seen this vehicle on display in Las Vegas & also at the Ford Museum! Memories!

I grew up in Dearborn in the 60's and 70's. I tended bar at Lovett Hall for weddings for a few years 40 years ago. Spent many late night evenings walking around the museum after the weddings let out. It was eerie walking through that place late at night.

Following Kennedy's assassination, the car received a complete overhaul, with significant armor plating and a bullet-proof hardtop; so the car on display is fake to mislead the public and draw visitors. Kenney's car didn't even have a movable roof; it was a regular convertible (Lincoln 61).
@@alphonsozorro7952 yeah, they added it after, this is the car they just added the roof and bulletproofing and it remained in service for awhile until they retired it, I believe after the Nixon presidency.

It is more likely a duplicate car with the VIN number taken off the murdered car he was riding in, transfered/switched to a duplicate car along with all the paperwork, repainted, and made up to look like it was the car the president was murdered in then the one he was murdered in was shipped off to a junkyard, crushed and sent to a steel mill and was melted down, further destroying evidence of who did this and answers surround, involving this plot of cover up to protect the guilty members who thought up all of this to begin with.

This place is well worth the time and effort! And definitely worth the cost. The museum and the village and you have several days of activities. When I lived in Michigan we would visit several times a year and never get tired of the place.

Yeah man, I thought it was going to literally be a Ford automobile museum until I looked it up online. The amount of stuff here is staggering.

i grew up about 10 minutes from here and I have so many great memories of this place. i used to LOVE being able to see the oscar meyer weiner mobile back before it was placed behind the partitions. there used to be a small display where you could lay inside of a bun and put big padded pieces of ketchup, mustard, and relish on top of you to look like a hotdog. Also, fun fact about the Lincoln chair, most people think that the darker marks on back of the chair are blood but they are actually hair wax. I also went to school about 15 minutes from here and my 2nd grade teacher was almost hit by the Rosa Parks bus when they were loading it in while she worked there before becoming a teacher. I had no idea how culturally significant the Abe Lincoln chair and JFK’s car were until fairly recently. I just had an opportunity to visit again for the first time in a few years and it never fails to fascinate me.
This is really spectacular video! It's as if I'm wandering through the museum. Henry Ford would have loved this display. Very nice narration, too. The narrator's got a great, clear voice for this kind of documentary.

I guess the Henry Ford Museum is the equivalent of the Louvre to us mechies. I am rather surprised that you didn't run across an old Ford Tri-Motor. Way cool, thank you for taking us along with you.

There was probably one in there somewhere. A full days worth to see everything properly I bet.
They have one, it was flown over the South Pole in 1929 by Richard Byrd.

Visited this incredible museum a few years back & was astounded by the exhibits they have on show. To see the Kennedy assassination Lincoln was breathtaking, as was the theatre seat Abe was relaxing in when he was killed. I was thinking ‘how on earth do you source these things?!’. The bus Rosa Parks rode in when she refused to give up her seat to a white person was another stunning exhibit.
The unbelievable array of classic cars, & trucks… the neon signs, it’s actually overwhelming how much incredible stuff is on show.
After that I went out to see Greenville, which was another mind blowing experience! To buy all those historic buildings, dismantle them, ship them to the museum site & then rebuild them exactly as they were is just extraordinary. It’s without doubt the best, most interesting museum I have ever visited - by a country mile!
My husband and I grew up in Oakland County Michigan. We always knew Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum were special, but never truly realized it until we moved to Atlanta for a new career. One of the most favorite times of year to visit, was during Halloween and Christmas. There is always trick or treating for the children at the many homes in the village. Jack o Lanterns decorate the porches, and it’s a spooky evening. Christmas is even better, Ice skating, vendors selling roasted chestnuts, rides in vintage Fords, and most every home is decorated for Christmas in the style of that particular home. The museum is a wonderful place as well. We try to visit whenever we’re back in Michigan. We made the best decision for us when we moved to Atlanta, but there’s no place like home.
I believe that 2016 Ford GT was the original car that one at le-mans in 2016, and has not been cleaned since they want to show/preserve the fact that it raced and won

The CP snowplow you saw, is like ones used today. Many different designs for different regions. CZcams has many videos showing various plows in use. They are a sight to see, in actual use. Just stay clear, as snow can fly far, as these plows are sometimes used at higher speeds. The Kennedy limo, looked different, when he was shot. It was in open air mode, like a convertible, rather than it was seen in your video. Notice, as time goes on, more and more safety is incorporated into the Presidential limos. A very neat place to visit. Thanks for the video.
That limo was completely re-done and put back in service. It was used throughout the 70s.

Me and family went to Henry Ford museum back in the 60s . really good food at the diner and cheap too . Greenfield village was really nice too.
Some history on the horse-drawn taxi cabs would have been nice also you may not have known or wondered why there were telephones in the Henry Ford museum, but Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were best buddies and had houses built next to one another as vacation homes in Fort Myers.

Last time I was there, they had one of the Wright Bros. planes. And yes, viewing the Lincoln Chair is surreal. Gives me an odd feeling every time. Definitely recommend going if you’re visiting Metro Detroit.
Wow, Chris, I really enjoyed this. My inner techno-geek especially enjoyed the wall of telephones. The vintage electric cars were especially interesting to me and isn't it remarkable that people were building electric cars long before Tesla came along? I think I said this in a previous reply comment to you, but I got quite a kick out of the vintage cars from the days before cookie-cutter, look alike models became the new normal. I'm * still * waiting for tail fins to make comeback...

I was just there with my sister this past weekend. We saw those presidential and other classic cars. It also displays old machinery, old trains, etc.This is my very FIRST visit there. I NEVER been there. It's a very good place. Someday, when I get back my transportation, I will come back to this place.
I have visited 5 times over the years and love it more every time.

I went to the museum back in 1999. So many things to see, but I distinctly remember the limousine Kennedy was shot in and the letter Clyde Barrow wrote to Henry Ford saying how he liked their V8 cars because of how fast they went.

Snowplows the same as the CP one were in use in Upper Michigan all the time until the railroads folded a couple of decades ago. They needed those when the average snowfall is over 25 feet.
Seeing them tear through snow that tall must be an amazing site.

I took my boys to the Henry Ford museum when they were kids in fact we went to the last game played at Tiger stadium so that's how long ago but what a experience at the museum to do justice it would take days to explore think we did maybe four hours. i'd love to go back someday.
I grew up going to this museum and I went again a few years ago. I love going during the spring or summer and spend one day at the museum then the next day at Greenfield village. I want to go to other museums around the US as well. I did travel to Tennessee for the Titanic museum but that's it.

The Locomotive has been their as long as I can remember. Oh and the gift shop had neat stuff including Rock Candy. Michigan doesn't get big snowfalls anymore

I been there a few times great history. Hope u liked it ;) I'm pretty sure they change up the exhibit bc I don't think they had the president's vehicles but not sure. The stories these items could tell, if items could talk, lol.
Seeing some of these things in person was very surreal.
Mobile Instinct 2 yes it would be, just watching this is very emotional esp. President Lincoln's chair- knowing the blood is still there very shocking and sad. It just shows that everyone will be the past one day :( Seems like many want to take history away, very sad. I say you can try but they won't succeed. We need history to learn so we won't make the same mistakes and to also cherish the life we have. Many had it much harder than now. The young people don't get it, they want without working for it.
The 1961 Lincoln Continental that Kennedy was shot is was dark blue, Kennedy's favorite color. Everybody should know that!

The GT40 Mark IV is a GT40. The Mark IV is also known as the "J" car, corresponding to Appendix J for the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race rule set. If I'm not mistaken, Appendix J was removed for the 1968 Le Mans race. Thus going back to the Mark II's and also dropping the motor displacement from 6997cc(427cid) to 4942cc(302cid). The 2016 Ford GT is the LMGTE Pro class winning car. The Mark IV is the overall race winner and the 1967 equivalent of modern day Prototype race cars. The 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans saw the last year for 2 classes of Prototype cars and 2 classes of GT cars.

An excellent tour , I'd love to make a thorough tour of it myself . I saw Kennedy's Assassination car in a museum at Niagra, Canada, in 1966.
NO....You did not see Kennedy's Assassination car in a museum in Niagra, Canada in 1966. The vehicle was sent back to Ford Motor Co. after the investigation. The interior was stripped and replaced and a bullet proof roof was added to it. It was returned to the Secret Service and President Johnson and Nixon used it. Afterward....it was returned to Ford and put into storage until it was finally approved for display in the Henry Ford Museum.
You were there just after the Maker Faire. You really should check out the fair for 2020. There was just so much to see and not enough time in the day to see it all.
I had no idea that the Kennedy limousine continued to be used until 1977! I thought for sure it was locked away immediately, waiting for a museum someday..

I was lucky enough to see the newly restored Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 steam through my local area here in MN a few days ago. It shook the ground and the whistle and noise were deafening.
I love those old locomotives!
