  • How to change the headlight bulbs on your car. In this video I show you how to replace the headlight bulbs on a Ford Mondeo Mk4. Links to everything you need for this job:
Osram Night Breaker H1 (high beam): amzn.to/1f579Yq
Osram Night Breaker H7 (dipped beam): amzn.to/PadWGa
    Torx bit set: amzn.to/1gBLE2q
Update - the bulbs failed and had to be replaced after about 13 months use (25000 miles).

Most helpful DIY video I’ve come across on CZcams… like ever. I’ve never changed a headlamp bulb in my life until 3am in the morning recently when, suffering from anxiety induced insomnia, I decided to fix mine in hopes I might calm down and avoid an inevitable traffic violation in the process. I have zero patience and I’m absolute crap at stuff like this, but thanks to this DIY video, I pulled it off like a pro!
In fact, when I sat my Mensa test the following day, I got in!!! I attribute it all to this video! Cheers!
(I feel like I shouldn’t need to state this, but the Mensa part of my comment is intended to be silly and is not in actually true. I feel like if I had been sitting a Mensa test that day though, it could have been true, but we will never know.)

Thanks! Called the local Ford dealer they told me 2hours work and that they had to remove the whole bumper to do it. Saved me $200 I suspect! Cheers!

    Very helpful mate.
I miss the old days when you just slapped a bulb in the back in seconds.

Try pop up headlights. Easiest shit to replace bulbs on. You unscrew the plates on top of headlights and voila you're in.

Thank you so much GreasyPrimate! You saved me a trip to the garage as well as a bob or two! Your tutorial was spot on and yes, it's a bit a fiddly to pull out the unit once the screws have been removed but more importantly, it's easier to fit it back in! The job didn't take me more that 10mn! Very helpful video!

Absolutely excellent! Ford quoted AUD$65.00 Labour charge and then AUD$57.00 for the replacement bulb. Bulb at auto parts store = AUD$23.00, (for a Narva bulb, probably better than Ford's own brand anyway) 30 minutes of my time (grille/bumper not as easy to bend out and light unit can't now push inwards (on a MC model Mondeo) as easily as your model), but we got there. Thank you so much! It's criminal the to car companies make what used to be so simple, now so difficult (if not impossible (for most vehicle owners) on some models)!

Thank you so much for this. It made the all difference between success and breaking something and/or having to say bad words. FWIW, my 2012 Mondeo had little plastic 2-piece wedgee thingees rather than screws fastening the front bumper. Easy enough to pull them straight out vertically. And I found that removing one that was closer the centre (in addition to removing the one you showed) helped.

As I looked under the hood behind the light assembly, I felt as though I wanted to throw up. How does one get their hand in there? I envisioned $$$. Then I came inside and brought up your video. GREAT! I changed both headlamps in 25 minutes and that included me having to get my magnet screwdriver to retrieve a dropped screw. Very clear video. Thanks Mate!

thanks this was very helpful . i replaced h1 and h7 sockets .
special note 1) i took two extra clips on top of the grill. this was to maneuver the headlight out.2) the h1 socket was more tricky to handle when putting in light bulb first .

Excellent clear instructions, I'll be sure to re-watch when my 12 plate mk4 decides to blow it's bulbs. Getting the headlight out like like a bit of a mission but you have described in detail how to go about what looks like the most difficult part of the entire job.
One thing I will say is once you refitted the light unit there looks to be a small panel gap at the inside edge, something I expected to close up one you started screwing it back together but appears to still be there?

I didn't notice that you cleaned the bulb with methylated Spirit prior to fitting. By doing this it ensures that the bulb doesn't have any finger grease which would cause the bulb to overheating blow. Great clearly explained video though.
