I'm glad I finally know which bird makes this sound. I've heard it used countless times in songs, movies and video games, it's more overused than Troy Baker and Nolan North together. If this bird had an IMDB page, it would be without a doubt a most prolific voice actor on planet.

I heard this sound in a movie and liked it from the beginning. As I finally found out, where this sound is from, I found your video, which shows it the best between all the videos on CZcams. Thanks :)
Just as Red tailed hawks are used as 'voice actors' for just about any large predatory bird, The common loon has lent its call to a wide variety of environments in media, often drastically different to those in its native range!
I remember hearing this in the primal rage title screen. Absolutely love that sound, and this bird species I gotta thank for somehow being a peace of my childhood. lol
For years I've listened to techno music hearing this bird call and wondering what it was (because it would make the best ring tone). Today I'm in Canada and someone showed me a video they took of a Loon's call and now I finally know! Best thing ever! 🤩
These Loons are common in Ontario and Quebec if not in other locations. This time of Year (Spring) I hear them in the bay close to where I live, It is their common call and it sounds so wonderful on an early morning!
I always wondered what was so loony about loons. Mostly when I'd heard recordings of them it would be the wail rather than the tremolo, so it always struck me as odd that their voices reminded people of hysterical laughter. Hearing it now, I guess I can hear the "Ohohohohoho!"
They make four basic types of vocalizations: the wail, tremolo, yodel, and hoot. In winter, along coastal waters they adopt a quiet time. The wail is perhaps the call most frequently heard. A loon will make this haunting call when it becomes separated from the chick or if its mate fails to return. 1:01 Source: Nature Canada
Hello fellow Newfoundlander! I woukd always here these Loon calls down in the distance from my grandfather’s house. I would hear them so clearly whenever we had a bonfire and it use to freak me out because I didn’t know what it was lol
I live in the Colorado Rockies at 10,500’ above sea level. I heard this sound one day a couple of summers ago. It happened a few times with long intervals in between calls, so I wasn’t able to catch a recording. I still convinced myself that I was crazy because there’s no way we have Loons here, right? But last summer I was at our property again and I heard it AGAIN! Please tell me if I’m crazy or perhaps there’s just a similar sounding bird in the High Rockies (Summit County/Park County). There are a few ponds, lakes and reservoirs in my area.
I mostly remember it in the English dub of Spirited Away, where it lends a creepy vibe to when Chihiro is alone with the double-sided statue when her parents first enter the spirit world at the train station tunnel.

The bird that inspired numerous creators of Dance Classics!
Idk why these bird videos are in my recommended but I had no idea this noise came from a bird

It's their common call, not distress call.
I was wondering what that sound was in the song featured in Humane Goes for a Walke!
I keep waiting for the drum and bass
We only have the weekend...
