  • This is my transformation of this Podocarpus Bonsai I recently acquired from a Hardware Store.
I changed the trees appearance and features a lot with long and detailed work.
I also editted it in a way, that you could precisly see the things I did.
I hope you like it :)

Looks so beautiful. Great job. I have one of these trees just a bit smaller and honestly and I don't know where to start.
I'm just letting it grow so far.
    Amazing wiring skills so neat.

Honestly they grow so slowly, I have a smaller one that I’ve had for about 2,5 years and it barely thickened. I’d recommend getting a larger one or just putting it in something like an air pruning pot and let it grow for a couple of years
      Thank you :)

@@GoodSamaritan1972 I mean airpots are basically a tool to gain a larger trunk. So as Little as possible pruning, I’d only maintain the basic structure and otherwise let the tree grow freely

Very nice!! As a beginner (and an old one at that) I have decided that I just need to start "playing" with what I can find. Last week, I found in the Clearance section of a local nursery a (I believe) 5 gallon pot with a label that said Podocarpus. It looked interesting and I spent $20 dollars on it. When I took it out of the pot, it turned out to be three plants !! Got them separated and put them in different containers. I know that they will grow slowly, but at least one of them has a very cool shape already and I will start wiring in the coming days, hoping that one day it will become a nice bonsai.... right now they are just messy plants 😁. Your video was very instructive and provided me hope !!

That's a very nice start for this tree as bonsai! It would have probably been easier to leave that carving part for after wire removal, but you probably already figured that out 😄
I was thinking, with the current prices for copper you must be spending a small fortune on copper wire 😲

It’s actually not copper but brown aluminum wire. I prefer brown to black because it doesn’t dominate the tree while it is applied :)

      @@alexverchereau5142 hey there!
Well, it all depends on the conditions they were grown in. Most ficus Bonsai you can buy in a supermarket are like 6 years old - grown in subtropical regions in China. Same with this tree (if you look closely at the video the Shari i made on the backside was a trunk chop). Basically the easiest way is to just let the tree grow without cutting anything. But growing conditions (light, temperature, humidity and soil) also make a big difference
