    Good morning Peter (and club),
    I received yesterday my copy of Bonsai Masterclass - The definitive chapter (the new print of your famous book so difficult to find).
    The content of the book is outstanding with some part really useful but also difficult to find else ways (one example for all: the tips for arranging trees in a forest).
    The quality of the book is impeccable: the paper and the binding are top notch, the layout is functional and readable, and the pictures just great! I highly recommend this book to any bonsai enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed!
    I’d also like to thank you Peter for the nice words you wrote for me and Yoshie: it’s really something that we should remember each day!
    Thanks again and have a nice Sunday!

    Peter, over the last few months I've enjoyed all 479 of your videos. I have tried bonsai various times over the years, sadly not always successfully. Your videos have given me new knowledge and confidence to try again! I have one purchased cedar bonsai, and other trees I have found on our property, including hemlock, maples, and a golden rain tree. You have covered wiring trees to a great extent, it would be helpful to learn how to test and see when to remove wiring. I'm sure different trees hold shape sooner than others. Do you ever take wiring off too soon, how do you know? It would be great if you would spend a bit more time explaining your judgements and deer decisions that go into unwiring trees.
    We'd love to visit your nursery someday, sadly we could only return to the USA with a bare root bonsai which would surely die!

    • @noyoujanemetarzan1677
      @noyoujanemetarzan1677 Před rokem

      If you grow from seed then the resulting plant will be subject to genetic variation so is not 100% guaranteed to exhibit the exact same characteristics of either parent plants even if the seed is said to "come true". Think of the child of a black man and a white woman - the child is neither 100% black nor 100% white...
      However, if plants are propagated from cuttings or by grafting then the characteristics are 100% guaranteed since you would be making genetic clones of the parent plant.
      Grafting is just a method for fusing a cutting (otherwise known as a scion in grafting terms) to a compatible rootstock to produce a single plant. The general rules for compatibility are that both plants (scion and rootstock) must be from the same botanical species or family of plants.
      Why use a different rootstock? Simple, the rootstock can be chosen so that it confers properties like drought tolerance, disease resistance, vigour etc that is not present in the scion to the scion. Grafted plants also have this property called precocity (ie maturity) that will allow it to bear flowers and form seeds at an earlier age than a plant grown from seed.
      Also, cuttings taken from some plants may not readily produce roots so, in those cases, grafting may be a more suitable way of propagating them.
