  • Does size dictate form and function, yes....it depends. In this video, I compare 17 Casio models according to four sizes identifying features more commonly available: S, Ms, Ml, L.

    Casios are very addictive, indeed. I have somewhat around 40 😂 Glad they reissued GD-350 (was an insta-buy when I saw it). I was eager to get AE-1500, but I felt it too big (... and I have GA-100, 700 and GW-9400), probably because of the wide display and the big numbers. Definitely the cheapest way to have the look of Pro-Trek watch without the bells and wistles of the sensors and tough solar charging. Most of the people use it to tell the time only, anyway. The smallest g-shock I have is G-2900. It is really compact - almost the size and look of a fitness tracker. Great review of the topic. Thanks!

    Excellent review. I've not seen it done by size, so props for originality. Sadly, your vid also makes me realise how much Casio Europe and especially Casio UK has fallen behind in the sale of sensible watches. It all seems to be fashion/retro with a big mark-up, then straight into G-Shocks of varying quality/value. Hopefully they stay focussed on the core market in your neck of the woods. Still, there's always JDM, but a man can grow old trying to make sense of that minefield.

    Great video, thanks! I like the large and medium-large watches best. I do have some medium-small ones, but the small ones are just not my cup of tea anymore.
    As you asked for suggestions, the DW-9052 is a fun and economical old school G-Shock that though thicker is comparable in size to a square. You won’t like it though I don’t think.
    And yes, positive always and only! Might give in and get an MiP GBD-200. Had that one been launched in a positive MiP display, I’d have got one already. Another great medium-large G-Shock I think you’d enjoy.

    Thanks for your effort and making this video 👍. Out of those watches the W-736H is - for me - the most useful, closely followed by the GD-350. I've found a vibe alarm the single most useful feature above all others (especially with the usual mice beeps most Casio watches have). I couldn't care less for atomic/solar/bluetooth/a thousand city codes/time zones or multiple alarms, but what I need and truly want on an EDC watch is a decent stopwatch with 24 hours (or greater duration) and a countdown timer with 24 hours (or greater duration) and settable down to the second. The W-736H does offer exactly that and even has one of the best LED illuminations I have seen to date on a Casio (and I usually hate that crap LED illumination, compared to the good old EL backlight, not to mention the ingenious Timex Indiglo). The GD-350 has the advantage to show the current time in stopwatch and timer mode, the instant timer access and the longer backlight duration of up to five seconds (compared to 2 seconds on the 736) but it is overall heavier, more bulky and the vibe alarm is significantly weaker due to the added mass. Right now I have about 60 watches, most of them are straight digitals, some are analog-digital a few more straight analogs (including autos). An analog watch is unbeatable for telling the time under all and most severe light conditions but other than telling the time at a glance, it is not very useful for me. The W-736H along with a few Timex's is one of my mostly worn watches and I think that tells a lot about it.

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  Před 4 měsíci

      Excellent comment…couldn’t agree more. The vibe alert is a game changer AND no one else is disturbed when it goes off. The “Big Sky” W736H has the best light I’ve seen…and this light also isn’t disturbing anyone nearby. Have a great day and thank you for your thorough comment!

    With options like the Casio Royale for $20, the CA53 Calculator Watch for $20, or the AE1500 for $20, I’m really unclear why anyone buys the F91.
    I get that the AE1500 is really big, but the CA53 is pretty small, the Royale is not too big and has better features, better light, and more personality.

      Principle you're right. But the "problem" is, that a digital watch with no graphics, circles or whatever gimmick clutter can look a bit boring, just like analogs where a Chronograph mostly looks more interesting than a simple three hands watch. I have a Skmei 1871 that only shows day, date and time and while this make the legibility great, it is kind of boring looking (but I like it anyway). Now, Timex does the same and on my T-49901 it only shows time, day and date but the funny thing is, that this watch doesn't look boring at all. As a matter of fact, it has the best to read display I have ever seen from any digital watch - simply unrivaled.

      True regarding the watch as an alarm. I think it's also a great watch or backup watch. Lots of options for alarms now versus 30 years ago.

      @Realidealgear I have the ae1600 and I love it. The shock square on me looks like a f91w. I'm looking for some thing rugged and at the same time I can dress it up. I'm starting to lean to a casioak models or a casio edifice

      It’s what Casio states. I agree, 20m is swimming and I do use any Casio with that rating in that manner. I believe I said as much in the video. Thanks for watching.

      There are exceptions (only a few I'm afraid) when it comes to traditional LCD displays. With (-) MIP displays however, legibility is not an issue anymore.
