    These were some of my first laps, excuse my quite imperfect driving especially at the beginning. But even though I'm new to AMS2 I could adapt quickly which speaks for its intuitive and authentic feeling, at least in the Caterham I've driven so far. I did gave it a first try when the early access started, but because this car didn't feel anyway near as good as it does now caused me closing the game quickly and not returning for a few months.
    Glad I did return now because it felt amazing in its current state and was a lot of fun to drive! In contrast to the early days there is not much left of Project Cars 2 (maybe the gloves?) which was one of the main complaints like "It's just like a mod of PC2". The menus, HUD and driving are significantly different and I do like how it is now, they finally made it their own game I would say which you can feel.

    FFB feels really good and enjoyable, you can feel and react to over and under steer well and you can feel weight transfer. I've driven some Caterhams and similar cars before (sadly not as powerful) and driving it in AMS2 comes pretty close to how I would expect it, maybe a little bit less understeer on turn in but I bet that's well adjustable in the cars setup. The first but only thing I did adjust to make it feel good was to reduce strength a bit and set all the additional effects stuff to 0.
    Graphics in VR are really crisp and sharp, everything runs smooth and looks great. Something I don't like though and sticks out a lot in VR are the flat trees, because they always rotate to face your view. I guess it's good for performance but I think if they wouldn't rotate so obvious it could look better, maybe make the rotation not one by one or not the full range, or give an option for 3D tress. Some games use x or y shaped trees which don't rotate what I think works a little bit better too.
    As mentioned I didn't drive much by now but looking forward to more. I really couldn't find much to complain and its rather minor things for now. Something I've noticed is AMS2 uses constant force effects to create friction when standing still instead of sending a damper effect like some other games. This is similar to iR is doing it and can cause some oscillations when standing still, because the feedback loop between game and base with constant force to create something complex like a damper is greater than just sending the base how strong the damper should be and it would do its calculations in a closer feedback loop. iR has a checkbox to weaken the static force when standing, I couldn't find this in AMS2 yet. But to be fair the friction effect they create is convincing and works perfectly fine up to a specific strength which should usually be fine, for example I reduced in-game force to 75 and it wasn't much of a problem anymore.
    I think the sound of this car is a bit too flat and the same across the rev range. For example I'm missing the load kicking in after shifting and it screaming rough at the top. The general tone of it isn't too bad, its just not dynamic enough to make it really good.
    (sorry for not talking about this in the video, had my mic off when recording and didn't feel like doing a voice over afterwards which I'm not that good at)

    So glad that Oulton is here. Such a fun track especially in smaller vefhicles such as karts.

    Damn, it ALWAYS!!! a sheer joy to watch another video from you, Marcel. And I am (personally) glad to hear you are now liking AMS2 with all it's updates & improvements. Cos to me, even putting the great FFB aside - it's just simply FUN TO PLAY. And so I now rank it second only to the more "moddable for life" Assetto Corsa

      I really hope they bring the Nordschleife soon (but plz not the PC2 one) and also some Porsche, especially a Carrera GT.

      Oh yes it is, its one of my favorite because its one of the purest drivers cars and has a quite perfect power to weight ratio for having fun but not being too crazy.

    How much better would you say the Index headset is than DK2?
    Love your videos 😃

      @MixedRealitySimRacing  Před 4 lety +4

      Thank you 😃. I've also had the DK2 for a couple of years and really enjoyed it even though its bad resolution. The CV1 was already a siginficant improvement and made it feel almost twice as good. I would say the Rift S feels 2.5 times as good as the DK2 and the Index 3 times. If the PC is powerful enough to give it 1.5x pixel density/super sampling its really sharp and probably only the HP Reverb can beat it in this regard I think. Super Sampling makes a huge difference, if you run it at normal resoulation it migt be underwhelming for some. I find it good enough now to don't worry about it anymore, if you really concentrate you cann see some pixels, but you blend it out quickly and it doesn't get in the way anymore. Who still complaints is way too picky in my opinion. Btw I did a review of the Valve Index if you hanve't seen it yet czcams.com/video/ChevR68Q_2A/video.html

      @@MixedRealitySimRacing i saw a video today showing through the lens of the new Reverb G2 and i have to say the colours are amazing and the screens as beautiful but i wouldn't want to downgrade my FOV as i find the my Valve Index FOV a great upgrade over my old CV1. Would love a way to test it out which was hard before the Covid 19 mess so for now the chances of seeing shops allowing people to test VR headsets is a long way away lol

    Last time I tried it (almost two months ago), it was in quite a poor shape. Caterhams in particular were simply weird: you'd need to make them "stumble" over the front wheels and force the rotation with the throttle. The street Ultima, on the other hand, was relatively acceptable.
    I really hope they've finally fixed all the discrepancies, and judging by what you wrote here, Marcel, it appears to be the thing. Too bad I currently don't have much drive space left to install it again, but I'm definitely giving it another spin at some point later. Thanks for trying it out and giving your opinion!
    Oh, and I do recommend checking that Ultima if you haven't already. Quite a drifty affair that one is :)

      As for Project CARS 2, I think AMS 2 initially was actually worse. I was of a relatively good opinion of PC2 (compared to the majority of other simmers), so I was expecting a breakthrough from Reiza and ended up badly disappointed at first. Glad to hear the sim now is finally fixed (AMS 2, of course, PC2 is not going anywhere anymore).

      @MixedRealitySimRacing  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks, will try that out. It seems to have improved a lot because I also disliked it months ago and the Caterham was an overreacting mess which I couldn't drive straight or catch. Now it's good.

      @@kolysion164 Well, the only thing I'm interested in a sim is the physics. Judging by what Marcel said above, at least that is fixed. Give me a realistic Caterham and I'm already quite happy.
