    Got myself a gossling for Christmas! Sir Nicholas Honkalot was hatched out in an incubator along with a marans chick.
    He was 5 weeks old when I got him.
    Never hatch geese too late in the season!
    My fella is happy it's not too cold, so he can be outside most of the time.
    But my boy isn't enjoying having to com3 in to warm up from time to time and earlier this week, it was pouring down and he got really wet. He was enjoying himself so much. But was so frustrated in the evening. He was srill up at 8pm, trying to dry all his fluff.
    He almost has all his feathers, so almost can go out permanently.
    I love my Nicholas 🥰🥰
    I'm ready for at least 2 decades with my beautiful boy.
    He's a pomeranian goode❤😊

    I'm hoping to get some Embden geese in 2024. I have 43 Brown Chinese Geese. Just love them and their eggs!! You have a really beautiful farm and your animals look super happy. Nice that you're such a cat person!!! Cats is best is what I say! (Dogs are a very close second!) Good luck with those geese!

    i heard they are amongst the most aggressive breeds. Doing a bit of investigating to see if there's anything more violent out there than my egyptian goose, lol.

    The ganders have longer necks than the female geese

    How are goslings at jumping? They can jump out of 2ft high brooder wall ya think? I have a 6ft round water trough I’m gonna brood goslings in, I wonder if I need to make a screen top? the first bunch will be 3 weeks old(shipping out Monday) when the last bunch gets here(1st week of April), how does a gosling take to feather out and can leave the brooder? 3 weeks is a big size difference in goslings…are they like chickens in that the older bigger ones will pick on the newer littler ones as they arrive? Total of 13 goslings in 4 orders from 3 hatcheries to get what I wanted…and I’m still trying to find dewlap toulouse, i mighta found a farm in April..

      How did it go?
      I have 1 goose, probably a gander, right now.
      I want to know how geese are towards newcomers, since apparently males can be aggressive towards hens in mating season and I want to explore the idea of giving him a girl.
      But I don't want a goose in my house again. That's a one time thing and I can get through this because he can go out fairly quickly.
      I don't have an outside warm place to keep a gossling.
      So I wanna know how geese are to newcomers if the day comes he really needs a mate.

      Oh it’s still early for that it was 18c today, unusual for Nov. but I have these heated water drinkers for the chickens and water puck heaters for the ducks.

    2 males with just a total of four there is for sure an amp-up of aggression. one make can take two or three females though traditionally they do pair off but if you have one male he will take on up to three females. I like to position myself as a feeder and an extension so I am not one of the things they chase or get mad about. Once you react to the beak they love it and will just do it more-think the way a rooster is, you let them chase you once and that's it, ruined! You will find the no matter what they will show some aggression when they lay. It doesn't hurt to be bitten, there is no fangs or anything, it's a bit of a pinch. I will sit down and hand feed and such things, I go toward any bird if they try to be aggressive, I never step away because they have such a strong pecking order and such strong dominating traits they read too much into it if you back down.
    One of the reasons I picked American buff geese over other breeds though was because they are a little less hostile than the other breeds.

      Oh brother so much to learn. I’ve been pinched before, not bad at all then they kind of back off. Easier now that’s it’s pants season lol. I figured they would pair off but seems the ganders fight and bite each other necks and strong wing flaps to their heads. So I guess I need a xmas goose dinner or sell one of these ganders. Do I think I can just move a gander in to the chicken house and next spring he can free range with the chickens and protect t them or it won’t work cause he didn’t grow up with them.

      One more thing, last spring and right now too during these breeding seasons there is only one nest with eggs. Would both females lay in the same nest? Or could I be mistaken that there are two girls? Maybe there are 3 males and only one female hence the one nest? It’s been on my mind. These geese used to follow me around the farm and let me pet them but now they’re nasty. Thoughts?

      @@HiddenSpringFarm i think he will constantly try to get back to his flock and maybe take it out on chickens, mine will nip chickens during feeding times if they get in the way so i dunno if that would work. might need to cull for meat or sell him as a breeding male, or if you breed this spring, grow out two of the other ganders goslings for him and give him two girls of his own, sell as breeding trio or keep as two breeding trios, with more females they will fight less. It's like chicken math right, each rooster needs 5-6 hens just to not abuse any of his hens and not behave badly, less hens get hurt (bare backs) too many some eggs don't get fertilized. You gotta find that balanced number.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm it is likely eggs of both ladies but they either will have the alpha lady nest or share the nest, see it in chickens all the time, they donate eggs for one hen or two or three will try to parent together even, but ya maybe you have three males which is def too many. I know and yu hand raised them so thing is they are basing their decisions on each interaction, they love being dominant and bossy.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Před rokem

      These are Julianna mini pigs and are supposed to be the smallest breed of pig. They should end up be anywhere between 90-120 lbs

    Will geese mate and breed in trios of 1 male 2 females? Or only pairs?

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Před rokem +1

      well my experience with these 2 girls and 2 boys is that the 2 boys give all their attention to one girl and leave the other girl alone. Maybe in some cases they pair off and mate for life but I don't find that to be true always.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm hmmm, that’s interesting, I wonder if you separated them into pens if they would make 2 pairs or still both males go for one female… well I got 4 kinds of geese coming over the next few months- embden, white Chinese, Toulouse, and pilgrim. The Toulouse and pilgrim I only got 1 male and 1 female of each, but the Chinese and embden I got trios of male 2females. This is my first time with geese, and I’m used to buying birds in trios like chickens and ducks and game birds. Appears I might have 2 extra female geese, I can always use them for eating eggs. I want to breed each kind to sell locally as live birds, not a lot of options around here for geese…
