EU citizens have always had to make an ESTA declaration when traveling to the USA, so the method in question, which now applies to Americans traveling to Europe, is the same as the ESTA filled out by Europeans, and the US Esta costs 3x more than the declaration made by the EU.
The USA asked Europeans to the same for years. Its called ESTA.
And here I a. Refused visitor visa several times 2 us3a while my parents was us citizen
@@SthmohtwentyUS ICE are very strict when you have family members living in the US already. They are worried that you will end up staying. You have to show that you have a good job where you at, a home the you own, lots of money in your saving.
A friend of mine who is Green Card holder was required to show they have tens of $k to get a tourist visa to Greece. I mean who ever thought a GC holder wants to migrate to Greece! 😂 😂
"it's until it isn't" bro summarized the whole thing with just that!
Please don't forget it's the same what the US is doing to the Europeans (ESTA) or the Canadians (ETA) doing to the Europeans.
Please stop calling it a visa: it's akin to misinformation. In fact it's simply a travel authorization and takes merely minutes to get. Applying for a visa is a whole different process.
FOX! It is NOT CALLED A VISA. It is a travel pre-authorization that you can apply for online called ETIAS. (European travel information and authorization system). Much like the Europeans under the Visa Waiver Program of the United States, they are required get an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) - country’s equivalent of the ETIAS in Europe. For which they can apply for online for a small fee.
A visa is a formal permit in a form of a foil granted by the consul or embassy of the country you’re visiting and officially physically embedded on a page of a passport. What Americans need here is a pre-authorization. and you can get this quickly at home from your computer for a small fee. STOP calling it a VISA. It is a misinformation! Ask a consulate officer or an ambassador if you don’t believe me.
it's not complicated - it's government tracking!
whenever people say "if you do that you'll be tracked" i think they're grossly naive.... we are tracked. period. you can't hide from apps, government, anything anymore and i'm ok with that bc it also allows us many privileges. if you have a car, phone, grocery store discount card, social security number, address, you're being tracked.
There is nothing wrong with that if you are not involved in nefarious activities you have nothing to worry about.
The reality is the US did it to itself...enough said.
That's what the government wants you to believe! Please save yourself and don't go to our socialist/ commie dictatorship, just stay in the US and enjoy your guns and freedom!
It. Is. Not. A. Visa.
This is not a visa, travel authorization.
honestly it makes no sense for USA, EU, Canada, Japan, SK, Australia, New Zealand, UK to fight over these travel authorizations.
most people who overstay their visas are not from these countries, we should just drop this requirements between our countries.
ETIAS and ESTA are not visas, they're some kind of advance border checks on line. They're precisely designed to facilitate touristic travels between "safe" countries that operate under visa waiver programs.
@@jfrancobelge All countries have the right to control their entries for any reason they want, south american countries, for example, plans to reinstate visas' reciprocity for countries that require us visas for any reason and also to fight sexual tourism, pedophiles and human traffickers from the northern hemisphere.
Europeans don't expire their time in usa....but you ask for europeans get a visa
@@adysluminsky9182 Not all europeans don't expire their time in the USA, I know portuguese foreigners who expired their time and stayed illegally.
Very well! Americans are not special! We all are humans!
Go to say it to MURICANS !!! 😅
Same as ESTA, it is expensive and looks like the EU is doing the same, so makes kind of sense they said it is a way to control entry. but the ESTA from Europe to the US is very easy and fast so I imagine this one will be the same
ETIAS is delayed until 2025, so we're okay to travel in 2024. Also, they say to get your approval before booking your trip. A lot of people book their trips close to a year in advance before things like hotels and flights get sold out. So, it's really valid for about 2 years.
It’s no different than the ESTA for tourist to come to the US.
Well, all europeans have to fill in online documents (ESTA) since many years and we don't complain. Foreigners from the rest of the world need VISA agreements from the US Embassies to enter in the USA. And it takes several weeks or months to get them, even for working in the USA. So, there is no exception for the americans the other way around. It is normal nowadays (with all what happens in Europe) that every person traveling to Europe is officially registered. No different privileges. Tracking and safety.
This is one step brfore the VAXX digital ID. So if you don't update your VAXX status you can't travel.
So, I just went online to learn more about this, because I’ll be traveling to Europe this summer. And, I see this won’t be implemented until 2025.
Okay so I’m 19 I live in the U.S. an I have never traveled out the U.S. before but definitely was thinking about it…to travel you’ll need a passport and Visa? Or am I wrong on that I know visa will let you stay long in a country
You need a passport for identification. Just like in your own country. You need a Visa to be allowed to travel to another country. Though its not really a Visa. More like a pre transaction thing.
As @user-cf5zi5nd2c stated it's just starting what the USA already has had in placebefore 9/11. The big difference, however, is that when entering lawfully with ESTA approval into the USA immigration officers who don't understand what your visa is for, or question your 'will to leave the USA after expiry of stay', or just don't like you as a person (!) can send you back immediately without compensation for the lost money you paid for your flight.
PLUS: Have you Americans ever been treated by your own security people (with no formal education or knowledge of foreign customs & habits) like a criminal like visitors from abroad? This will never happen when entering a European country, they will observe the rules, but are polite & considerate.
Honestly most of us are not in favor of how immigration officers treat people from other countries, especially when they are just trying to go on vacation and have every legal requirement. I hope to travel to Europe next year and am lucky to not have to worry about being treated the way foreigners are treated here.
@@sydney.564 A short piece of advice:
Do not go to those places recommended by travel agents - those are tourist *hot spots* with all the disadvantages [high prices, long waiting, little time to absorb & store into memory.]
→ The best time to visit is May or September
If desired let me help with suggestions for more worthwhile alternatives
It’s tit-for-tat. As an American married to a Frenchman I can tell you that Europeans did not appreciate the US suddenly imposing the hassle, wait and cost (higher than what the EU is asking) for ESTA a few years back either, where there had been no need for it before.
It's not a VISA.
Well as a rest of the world passport holder, you guys still have a faster visa than us.
@@donk8105 that's what I wrote maybe the us came across as US
Tracking people and making money...
That's not new so what's the big deal?
We need to know who is coming to our countries .
Tracking? its just a form lmao
If I travel to the UK I need to get a visa and from the UK to France I need to get another one?
Not Visa, but you must pay yes
I think Europe wants to protect against the decrease in humanity. Neuschwanstein beeing just an example.
Thanks for the heads up!! ✈️
The last guy said it all
It is fair enough for us european citizens that will travel to US we also need ESTA.
Yes now i fully understand (90 days) for us (90 days) for them now its fair match ( 50 vs 50) the germans governments, made epsolutuality (correct dicisions) i say big thanks to them over this new system
Complicated Europe citizen too to enter USA
Maybe for holidays vacation if anyone like it if you working and living in the united states why choose to come to Europe there is no point choose other continent why Europe nothing happening here still everyone have there own way of thinking and choices including plans it's waste of times unless some one love to waste there most important times like me don't tell about Europe I know myself
After many decades of protecting them, know them what to restriction against us.
You know that we need a visa to travel in the U.S right? You need to pay 20€, us 1500
Protect us ??? With support of US military industry. We see how is you protection in Afghanistan, and in Ukraine.... dont think any country will attack mine. 😅
That's good step taken by the European Union in USA and Canada and offcouse UK also there are so many illegal and legal immigrants and most of them are criminals, so it's all about internal security.
Not true been postponed till 2025in may
true! bc of $$$$
Congrats to open border USA is now treated like crap
this planet so boring and annoying, make it more complicated like figure what else
It is very quick to get the visa…Australia visa is fast… took me a minutes. ❤❤
its all those economic parasites coming in illegally
Never travel to europe - understood.
Why not just pay the money and not bother with forms..it's all about that.Eeeeveryones benefit..😂
Will the US and Canada drop ESTA then?
This will lead to EU losing tourists and tourist dollars. Same has happened to South Korea with their K-ETA last year. They held an emergency meeting because they were not getting the amount of tourists and tourist dollars as they had hoped. So they have temporarily put a halt to K-ETA for 20 out of some 100 nations. EU will also learn the hard way.
We will see once the BRICs Money comes
@@migmontest Nah. Never will happen.
Great. No money no honey..
Americans don’t travel that much anyways. They have little vacation time. Europeans had to pay for ESTA since I can remember, so doing it bilaterally now is only fair.
How many Americans have a US passport? Answer: only 30% have a valid passport, 20% with expired and 50% who never left the country. You must be really deluded that only Americans bring a lot to the tourism of the EU. Many EU states, especially those from the east also travel to Europe, many tourists from other countries visit Europe. Seriously bro, you are out of touch with reality which is no a surprise.
It is just a cash GRab...now 8 $...see the price gradually rise in the future
And?
Don't be so dramatic, we Euroopeans have a similar process to travel to US and it's 3 times more expensive.
Since when did the EU became so special. America do the same.
America has had the same thing in place for 20 years😂
Is it just the US? Or are other countries affected, too?
Other countries are too including
European need esta to visit usa long time its pay back time tit 4 tat ...I am refused visa long time can't visit my parents was usa citizen and I was refused
canada too. it was in Canadian news
Their country their rules. Isn't that what we say to visitors here? Legal or otherwise.
@@taryntaryn9090 I’m not complaining. I’m taking a trip to Europe with people from other countries. So I’m genuinely asking if other countries are affected. I have since been able to find a list of countries that are affected.
Rightwingers don't need to worry about this, they don't even leave their cornfields. They don't even have passports.
I'm a "rightwinger" precisely because I have travelled and lived abroad extensively.

@@GodsOath_com Yeah, no argument here. But there is something to be said about not being able to smell the halitosis rolling off a stranger’s breath as they explain how to get to the closet Mc Donald’s to try a “Mc Royal”.
you have to have a visa to come to the US....... growing up in italy-america we needed visas for every country in europe. the EU is being fair. this isn't an issue. it's prob an easier process than traveling to the uS.
Not true for most E.U. countries, the United States has a Visa waiver program which lists all the countries where a visa will be waived if the person is traveling to the United States for 90 days or less. This program was established in 1986, and Italy is one of the countries on the list.
Also even then you could still get the visa requirements waived but you would have to go through the US customs and border protection to determine eligibility to travel without a Visa if you are from a country not on the list or if it was before 1986. Now in the U.S. there is an electronic system called ESTA, but this is not for a Visa or Visa requirements to travel to the United States if your country is on the approved list, this is just an approval process which is very different from actually trying to acquire a Visa, which a Traveller would have to do if they were trying to stay more than 90 days or if their country was not on our approved waiver program.
@@lovelynight5967 The new European system (ETIAS) is also not a visa. It's very much a pre-travel authorization in the same way that ESTA is.
If you want to say that it's a stupid game with calling it "not a visa" when it's "really a a visa", that's exactly what many of the countries that have Visa-Waiver Programs with the US have been saying for years since implementing ESTA in ~2009. The US wants to have their cake (require a "visa" that's not really a visa for entry) and eat it too (citizens can travel to VWP countries with no visa or ETA). Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I'm not thrilled that I'll have to do it in the future when going to the EU, but I can hardly blame them and surprised it's taken so long.
@@lovelynight5967 yep i was traveling from the US as a US citizen in 1979 and returned to the US in 1989. when we travels to france. switzerland, england, we had to get at least a french visa i remember. and you entered at border crossings in every country. i haven't traveled to europe since 1989 so i'm sure laws changed under the EU but im less familiar with them now. Thanks for the update.
Much easier!
I traveled Europe from 1973 to 1989 never needed a visa to go any where. I lived in Italy and vacation in Germany every 3 months. Been to all the countries.
Good European Union
Good business
So they come to US for free, we have to get Visa to go there! Next time they ask for help tell them to light a candle.
Don’t be stupid. The us has implemented the very same system for years. It is called ESTA. I am actually surprised that it took so long for the EU to implement some kind of reciprocity here. In fact ETIAS will be cheaper than ESTA which is unfair
@@leonidasthermopylae3378Not true for most E.U. countries, the United States has a Visa Waiver Program which lists all the countries where a visa will be waived if the person is traveling to the United States for 90 days or less. This program was established in 1986. The ESTA is an electronic approval process that travellers are required to do whether their country is on the list or not, but it is not a VISA. Once again if you live in a country that is on the approved list you can travel to United States without a Visa for up to 90 days or less, but still have to fill out the ESTA. The process to get a Visa can be very time-consuming and lengthy, so I don't know if the people reporting the story meant that the EU is now going to have their own form of an ESTA system or if this supposed speedy process will actually give people visas. To me this is all about money charging $8 per person, considering the thousands of people that travel to Europe on a daily basis.
@@lovelynight5967 ETIAS is very similar to ESTA. It's also "not a visa" in the same way that ESTA isn't. At least the European one costs 1/3 of the cost of the US version.
they pay $10 for ESTA to enter US
My Swiss Husband must get a ESTA every two years and it costs a lot more than 8.00. This European version is not a VISA, its the same as ESTA. The VISA wavier program only means you don’t have to apply for a visa to enter on vacation. You are still required to produce an ESTA
