    Hey 3 years later!! Just ditched gimbals. Tired of batteries and if the shot was bosched I’d rather it be my fault.
    Just picked up the dgs for less than 500. And am looking into vest and arms. Recommend?

      That's a great price!! Love this Glidecam. I don't believe Glidecam makes vest/arm for it or their HD Pro. I bought a used V-8 arm and vest (like 20 years old) and had a friend 3D print an attachment to the top pin on the arm as the hole in the newer glidecams are wider than the pins on their old arms. Works great. Maybe contact Glidecam directly on Instagram or email them to see if they have a modern vest that will work. Or maybe an off brand vest? Something lighter than the one I have.

    What is the size of the interior hole of the handle of the glidecam?

    Love the voice too! I love seeing test footage in a review. I also am more of an informal consumer so a nice gloss over and "quick tips" section really appeals to me. Thanks for the video! What are your thoughts on 3-axis gimbals that are coming out these days?

      I think the new gimbals take the learning curve out of using a stabilizer like a Glidecam, but I find the movements can seems a bit robotic at times.

    And I thought I was the only person left in the world who still had a Glidecam V-8 (great machine). I currently use a greatly modified steadicam Flyer/Pilot/homebrewed. Thanks for your very good reviews & tips. Ps I'm in love with your voice, do you do voiceovers?

    Stablized lenses are worse on a steadicam because when the IS lenses move, it messes up the balance of your camera and also creates other issues too. With heavier cameras it's less noticeable but with small cameras it makes a huge difference.

    just a nit pick but steadicam is a trademark.. this is not a steadicam - it's a glidecam! Thanks for the video though!

    Why would you not use auto focus camera?

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada

      If you are using a cinema camera or a DSLR with contrast detect autofocus, autofocus isn’t always an option.

    A very good review. But just FYI, GlideCam ≠ Steadicam. I lost count of how many times you said "Steadicam". Steadicam's trademark lawyers would probably advise you they're not interchangeable terms. And the GlideCam folks would probably prefer you use the correct product name, too. Not meaning to be a scold, but just a friendly head's up. :-)

      Thanks for your comment, yes I’m aware Steadicam was the inventor of the Steadicam and Glidecam was created as a cheaper alternative. I assume people understand that at the end of the day we are talking about the type of stabilization device and not a brand name, which is what I meant. Thanks!

      Steadicam isnt just a brand anymore. You dont hear someone on set go "Oh can we GPI Pro this scene?" or "Glidecam this scene?" The word steadicam is now a function like dolly, tracking, push, pull, dutch etc. At the end of the day specificity for a brands sake on set doesnt really apply. If someone asked you what a glidecam was, you'd say oh its a steadicam or like a steadicam.

      @scottvanderbilt1279 Před 6 lety

      Well, you may be right that people misuse the term Steadicam when they mean any brand of camera stabilizer. My point is that in product reviews, it's probably a little more important to get the name right than in colloquial usage on set. If you reviewed a Ricoh brand photo copier and then spent half the review calling it a Xerox, I think both Ricoh and Xerox are going to be annoyed, and rightfully so. In any event, let's not let this detract from the fact that Nice Lady did a very fine review of the GlideCam, and I hope she continues to make them.

      Correct term would be "Sled", just like you call a Tripod as "Stick". In set, we refer Glidecam as "Naked Sled", and fully rigged Steadicam as, well, a Sled. We refer glidecam as naked sled because of their portable nature and sort of like a stripped down Steadicam. It's getting weird, but you got the point lol. And it also irks me when they call A "Ronin" or "Movi" type of stabilizer as a gimbal or 3 Axis Gimbal lol, I mean, Sled has 3 axis Gimbal too, so we like to call it Electronic Gimbal/Stabilizer/Hand Held Stabilizer.

      The common term is SteadYcam these days.
