414 years Oldest Durga Puja of Undivided Bengal in Kolkata I Huge Nabami Bhog in a Brahmin family

- During Navami, our pilgrimage led us to the legendary Sabarna Roychowdhury Durga Puja, hailed as Kolkata's first Durga Puja celebration. Originating from Barisha Atchala Bari, this tradition has now expanded to encompass eight distinguished locations. Our immersive exploration unfolded the sacred rituals within the Atchala and Mejo Bari Durga Puja.
The historical significance of Kolkata finds its roots entwined with the Choudhury family. The inaugural puja happened in the year 1610 by Roy Lakshmikanta Majumdar Choudhuri set the Atchala format, where all deities, including Ma Durga, were congregated under one structure-a tradition that endures to this day.
Welcomed warmly by Shivam, the 35th generation scion of Atchala Bari, we immersed in the legacy of their 414-year-old Pujo. Shivam illuminated us about the non-vegetarian, fish-centric bhog offered during their ceremonies.
Our journey continued as we joined our friend Somek at Mejobari Durga Puja, where, in accordance with tradition, fish bhog was offered to their goddess. The main bhog was meticulously prepared in one kitchen, while the communal meal was prepared in another.
We joined the family members and visitors for the bhog ceremony. Commencing with a small portion of the main offering, the subsequent serving of non-bhog dishes portrayed simplicity coupled with soulful flavors.
Returning to Atchala Bari, we spoke to Malabika and Piyali Roy Choudhary, who eloquently articulated their family's devotion to the goddess, treating her arrival akin to a beloved daughter returning home. Walking us through rituals and traditions, their emotions swelled discussing her departure the following day, leaving a poignant impression on us.
As evening descended, veg bhog was offered to Radhakrishna while non-veg bhog to goddess Durga. Luchi, aloor dum, malpoa, and sweets adorned the former's platter, while the latter's feast comprised fried rice, bhetki paturi, potoler dolma, chatni, papad, and rosogolla. It was a memorable food experience because what we had on our plate was a slice of history.
Thank you so much @ Delhi Food Walks and Anubhav for covering our Atchala Bari Durga puja and its traditions so nicely. It has been beautifully edited and the overall content is great. Keep up the good work and best wishes for your upcoming videos ✌❤. Looking forward to meet you again soon 😃
I on behalf of Sabarna Roy Chowdhury's Atchala Bari cordially invite you and your entire CZcams family members to our Durga puja celebrations from next year onwards.. 🙏

Wow.
Anubhav ji, your detailed videos covering Durga Puja in Kolkata put me back in touch with my roots, culture, and traditions, that seem unreachable away from home. Being a probashi, it got me emotional and reinstalled my pride in being a Bengali. Heartfelt thanks.
সার্বণ রায়চৌধুরী বাড়ি সত্যিই কলকাতার আভিজাত্যের প্রতীক।
So so Beautifully Emotionally described the family traditions authenticity by the family members.Reliving the Pujo days with this Amazing Series🙏❤🥰🙏
Anubhav, thank you for covering this so beautifully... I am glad you went to explore the traditional Durga Pujo rather than the modernized versions...
This place is 15 mins away from my home by motorcycle using small by-roads.
I used to go for maths tuition there.
I'm a proud Behala-ite.
Behala has existed for 800 years atleast.. way older than the modern city of Kolkata.
But then, Kolkata's roots itself is at least 1500-2000 years atleast.
Afterall, Maa Kali is the patron goddess of the city.
Joy Maa ❤
Of course. Kolkata is atleast 2000years old. Clive's rubbish theory is a lie. It's proven
Durga Puja is the not only festival, it also emotions for all Bengali either Kolkata or Bangladesh..
Sharup from Dhaka, Bangladesh
you guys should protest your country's behavior during and after world cup secondly there is bengali land beyond kolkata in india
The best food vlogger of India.. Once again.. The best anubhav sir❤
Ma Durga in one of her births or incarnation , was born to a fisherman . She used to catch fish , in that birth of her , bcoz of which , till date Durga Ma is served fish , in bhog offered to her. ❤❤As per our mythological story. ❤❤
That's her Mastya Kanya form.
Khub sundor laglo thank you sir
Great to see you covering the Sabarna Roychowdhury Durga Pujo. Most of the people only explore the bonedi baris of Central and North Kolkata, while the oldest one is in South Kolkata. And fyi, this pujo is not only the oldest in Kolkata, it is apparently the oldest Durga Pujo in all of undivided Bengal (present day West Bengal and Bangladesh).
Not quite
Thanks Anubhavji. This year couldn’t go home during Durgapuja and didn’t even see Ma’s face. Somehow your vlogs just teleported me home😊. You really have stumbled upon history because bcoz this is the oldest recorded Durg Puja across undivided Bengal and not just Kolkata ❤ and only a Bengali can non chalantly say ‘ haven’t added onion or garlic so fish and mutton completely veg’. 😂😂.
Thanks and Asche bochor abar hobe 🙏🙏🙏

Durga Puja in Bengal was started by Raja Kongsho Narayan Roy of Rajshahi (Present-day Bangladesh).
I am getting hungry. ❤
So onion and garlic are the only villains. 😅
OK, I'm Bengali too and pointing the finger to myself.

I am glad we got divided...came here just to say this

" Pray God, but stay away from rocks"~Proverb✔️
Sorry pr ek bat samjh nahi aai ke kanda lahsun nhi chalega pr macchi or miit chlega
Onion & garlic are tamsik according to our shastras. Thats why we avoid it in religious food items.
in a Brahmin family?
Raja Sabarno Roychowdhowri was the king of Kolkata..
Yes brahmin
Kon c eswi mai the
Ye log raja nahi the. Zamidaar zyada the.
Yes, persons having Roy Chowdhury surname are Bengali Brahmins.
@@RekhaKumari-xq2blkolkata is hardly 350 years old. They were zamindars not a king.

26:00 subverted Hindu mind far from reality.
Ab tu sikhayega kisko kya karna chahiye kya bolna chahiye!!
Apne culture apne gand me daal. Dusro ko mat pel. Hindu dharm ke thekedar nahi hain tu.
As usual. Upper elite class hindus don't have community sense.

better late than never , Sabarna Ray chowdhury's family puja is not even the oldest puja by any means, Ma Mrinamayee a form of Durga ,in Mallabhum tradition is accounted to be 1000 years old puja it was started by the great Malla Rajas , Palas were worshippers of Durga , Senas did too, Shashanka Deva of Gauda also shows such iconography ,Guptas were Durga worshippers in Bengal, in Kushan era such iconography is found in Bengal, Raja Ichai Ghosh worshipped Durga as Shyamarupa, Raja Surath of Vanga said to have first worshipped Durga in Treta Yuga, 500BCE Gangaridae inscriptions from Chandraketugarh denote same images , 4000 years also Pandu Rajar dhibi displays Matrika idols as well, since antiquity Ma Durga Ma shakti has been worshipped, this SRC family puja deemed as first puja is a propaganda well sought one
