The Trenchcoat is actually known as a "Limiter" which was developed by umbrella to keep the tyrants from mutating beyond a controllable level, and the reason Mr,X mutates to his second form is because the limiter gets destroyed in the blast

Lol, the resident evil Lore is super in depth, I love it because the developers actually cared about it and actually did research, in my opinion it's worth anybody digging even just a little bit deeper into the lore, even if post apocalyptic horror isn't your thing. It makes me happy to know that even for as old the series is the fanbase is still strong, and growing hopefully thanks to the remakes

After thinking on it, I have a theory on why he has a fedora and his limiter looks like a trench coat. His mission was to kill any survivors of the outbreak, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and hide his inhuman looks. From a distance, he just looks like some survivor cosplaying as a noir detective who's built like a tank. If you're a survivor and you see a strong dude in a fedora down the way, you're probably gonna think "hey, he looks like he could protect me, and he's also a nice guy"

The Tyrant being intelligent and self aware has a far more terrifying implication than is ever shown in the games.
It was actually shown in the Outbreak series, at least in Outbreak File #2’s level “End Of The Road”.
There was a tyrant that was hyper intelligent. It was almost like Doomsday from DC comics, as it evolved after every combat encounter

The mutated form doesn’t occur just when he’s angry, the suit he wears actually suppresses the mutation. It gets torn earlier in the game allowing the virus to take off.

Well, it's more than that. First, the limiter has to be removed or destroyed. Then the Tyrant must suffer extreme damage. Damage is key. The virus responds to the damage by trying to beef up the host. Kinda like the zombies in the REmake turning into Crimson Heads. The problem is that the mutation almost always damges higher brain functions, rendering it uncontrollable, almost animalistic given that it now has the tendency to roar.

One mistake: Tyrant is actually 8 feet tall, well the door frames around the rpd are probably taller than 6'11 considering the fact that rpd used to be a museum, and mr x when standing straight is a head taller than the door frames themselves.
While that dose make sense logically remember that leon is only 5 10 so based off of the height difference around 7ish feet seems more likely. He seems taller because our protagonists are pretty short.

@@johnf.walker6406 Though i think that it may be possible that Trench coat T-103 wears is limiting it's speed in a way, all that resistance and mutation control isn't for free, though Nemesis seems to have that problem covered, maybe parasite gives it extra strengh so it actually can use speed, what if Nemesis had four forms, second form being where it is freed from it's trench coat and grows same claws Mr X does in place of one of it's arms but is still controllable though more about up-close and personal fight due to obvious reasons, and have it's third form be the creature going feral due to mutations and be that animalistic form, while fourth form would be that blob form, i think it could have been amazing, maybe before it's third form it could have reached it's peak performance where it uses a weapon with arm that still has fingers and it's claws in up-close fighting, having best of inteligene to use guns and mutated claws to swipe at anything that gets in it's way, while it's third form would be project taking too much demage again and losing it's efficiency for full on feral power, while last form would be it's body overmutating simply to survive it's acid bath, oh i can imagine how scary it would be.

I have a theory as to why the Tyrant can be downed via headshots.
I think of his head (and his tissue in general) as like an extremely durable ceramic plate. It stops almost any projectile, and is near impossible to penetrate. However, like a ceramic plate, he cannot stop the kinetic force of such projectiles from penetrating. Its similar to how even though ceramic armor will stop a bullet, it will not stop you from getting bruised to shit.
So I think its possible that bullets are still transfering a lot of kinetic energy directly into his head, thus causing him pain. What's happening when he finally neals is he is temporarily overwhelmed by the pain he's feeling, and is waiting for his body to produce enough endorphins to numb it. Once this has happened, he gets back up and is able to continue fighting. That's my theory anyway.
Also a side note, he changes form because his trench coat is torn off during that explosion.. The trenchcoat limits how much a tyrant can mutate. This also happens in Resident evil 3 with Nemesis. The more of the Trenchcoat is destroyed, the more free they are to mutate.
That's the only way I can make sense of him being such a bullet sponge other than "gameplay"
I guess that they could actually graft some kevlar like substance into his bones or skin

Think free runners those people are absolute units due to the constant fracturing and rebuilding of the skeleton
If someone is less fit but still muscular they tend to always have sore joints because the muscle puts too much strain on the joint
They may have been trying to say that the tensile strength (pounds per square inch) of bones will not change if they were larger. The larger bones would withstand more force because they have a larger cross sectional area. If the bones become denser that would increase the tensile strength.

Thicker bones are less flexible but are necessary for withstanding impacts like say a punch through concrete.

@@justnoob8141 its not a very thick bone, it's a very dense bone, as dense as steel is. I believe that the Umbrella Corp altered his bones in 3 ways: Improved the microstructure of bone to become extremely strong, vastly increase the bone density in a way that would ensure stronger bones (You CAN have very dense yet very weak bones if not done properly), and lastly thicker bones, especially the skull and ribcage. I'm thinking that if the bone microstructure and density of the skull is done right then a skull of thickness 2-7mm may be completely invulnerable to all sorts of melee weapons, regardless of if they are heavy (Like swords and axes), or light (Knives), and all but the most powerful firearms
I remember something where people with a genetic condition that caused their bones to be more dense then usual talked about how at no point in their lives did they ever suffer a broken bone.

4:50 I think they mighta meant that theres more to bone strength than its density, which is true. The structure and lattice of the bone greatly influences the strength of the structure, far more than the density does. However theres a lot less variation in terms of how this affects the str of the bone because for most part everything evolved to function in the same way. This is different for animals in the sea that don't need the support from gravity we do, but need support against pressure so breakage from the sides or an impact is probably a lot easier for the density of the bone being the same, for example.

Well, not exactly. It's not like the coat is the only thing preventing mutation. Mutations are triggered by the Tyrant getting damaged. Actually, part of the coat's function is to protect it. Bullets seem to bounce off it.

There’s a theory that the clothing he wears is actually something like armour + a restraining jacket.
His regeneration abilities are too good but also too unstable
If he gets damaged enough he doesn’t regenerate back into a “human” form, but into some weird abomination.
Anyway, the Suit is basically not only protecting him from that kind of damage, but also helps him keep his human shape, in case he were to get seriously damaged
I think its kind of comfirmed that the trenchcoats on tyrants act like limiters, Mr.x and Nemesis and other tyrants that have the coats will have a second for once the coat is destroyed, my only question is how does these trenchcoats work? Like, are they made of some specific material that stops them from having their bodies grow to groteske inhuman proportions? Weird, but it is Resident Evil

@@justsomeone6166 i feel like its based on how the injury occurs. If you get a burn or a cut you grow new skin but keep a scar but if you get a bruse or break a bone its in a concealed environment and tends to grow back exactly to how it was before. The act of having flesh wounds or having the external stuff interact with the tyrants seems to be the cause of the mutations thus the trenchcoat is more like a seccond skin that stops little cuts and gunshot wounds from adding up and allows the tyrant to bust through walls and fight residents with firearms without fear of being exposed. Its basically protects them from themselves and stops 1000 tiny cuts and the potential mutations from them
@@justsomeone6166 Check out the RE animated movies, one of them has the pinnacle of Umbrella's tyrant B.O.W. program (Damnation, I think). The limiters on those tyrants are pretty detailed and made out of some super heavy duty materials (like woven steel cable).

The trench coat is actually an inhibitor that restrains it from transforming. Much like the T-Nemesis, Tyrant is capable of further transformation once the coat is removed, however, it loses its sensibilities causing it to become far more animalistic and unable to be controlled.

The one thing i could think of when you mentioned the thicker bone part, is just that maybe people were referring to the osteopetrosis condition, with the bones being denser and as such more fragile because they'd lose the ability to bend, kinda why diamonds are though and at the same time brittle.
The coat is called a Power Limiter and it's actually used to keep tyrants from mutating further

4:36 the commentor was actually correct. There can be instances where thicker bones are weaker such as in osteopetrosis where because there is a lack of bone destruction the architect of the bone is not efficient so despite being thick, the bone is weaker than a smaller more well constructed bone.

The coat is what prevents him from mutating. This was confirmed a long time ago. The coat is a power limiter and the cranial implant is for more control over the Tyrant

About the T-003 series, aka "Mister X", Tyrants. That "trench coat" he wears isn't just a coat. It's a "power limiter" that keeps their form stable and prevents them from roiding out into a Super Tyrant. Going Super makes them mutate, often uncontrollably, get more powerful, but also become uncontrollable. So it's not damage that made it transform, it's the destruction of the Limiter.

Actually mr x enters his second form due to the trench coat being removed, the trench coat is specially made for tyrants to stop further mutations, hence the coat being called a limiter
