How to Play Kick the Can

This urban version of hide-and-seek is practically a rite of childhood, so find a can and get kicking!
Step 1: Choose It
Choose a player to be "it." 'It' kicks the can and the other players run and hide. Then "it" retrieves the can, closes their eyes, and counts to 100. At 100, they call out, "ready or not, here I come," and then looks for other players.
Step 2: Begin searching
Search for the other players if you are "it." When 'it' finds a player, their name is called out and 'it' and the found player race to kick the can. If the hider kicks the can first, the game starts again. If 'it' kicks the can first, the hider goes to "jail," and stands near the can.
Tip
'It' may call out someone's name and the place they are hiding rather than physically tagging them.
Step 3: Free the jailed
Set jailed players free by kicking the can without being spotted by 'it.' If a player is spotted, they go to jail too.
Tip
Jailed players can ask other players to free them.
Step 4: Continue
Continue play until all the players are found and in jail. The first person caught becomes 'it' in the next round of play.
Step 5: Shorten a long game
Shorten a game that has gone on too long declaring that the first person caught three times is the new 'it' and begin a new game.

I heard of a version that’s basically freeze tag but with a can. Basically, “it” tries to tag the other players. If you get tagged, you have to freeze in place until another player (who is not “it”) kicks the can.
Only the OGs will remember playing this in elementary school

I played this in the late 80's early 90's in the trailor park.we had about 10 of us.we would play for hrs.thats right the og's know hiw to play this!

My reason for coming here, wanted to ask ‐ Was picking up the can and then throwing it as far as possible, against the rules? For the record, this is NOT how I remember playing 'Kick the Can',

One time I was playing with my friends kick the can on Halloween. I was as Kenichi from as the gods well everyone was like characters from different things. They called me a freak so a few minutes better than decided that we can play kick the can everyone knew how to play except for my best friend Tarazi I looked at her and I knew what would happen she would get caught, but I wouldn’t let that happen when she kick the can everyone ran to hide except for me and my best friend then she started counting and add 28. I decided that I will tell my mom that me and my friend want to go trick-or-treating now and that we would wait for my other friends to finish the game and this story is called the smart move. I did as a brainless peanut sized brain, so I grabbed my bucket and zoomed out of the house with my friend and a few minutes later at 99 they open their eyes and said ready or not here I come after they found everyone the other player was confused and said, where is Amber and her friend they started looking for me all around the place until they eventually got tired and went inside. They saw my bucket was gone and my friends bucket a few minutes later they ran to us and said, why did you go trick-or-treating without us and then I said because I wanted to win and my friend that day legend says that those people who were my friends when we got to a pool, they said that they were brainless, and they jumped into the pool ledge, and says that they were in the hospital because multiple brain damage

Oh. It's complicated. I thought it was some kind of weird soccer. But it's like 3 other games put together. Hide and seek, capture the flag and tag. So I'm going to make up another game just off the top of my head. It's a combination of kickball, cat's cradle and cops and robbers. GO!

We played this lots i didn’t like my sisters friend so I would go walk around town for an hour and come back scope out where the seeker is and voila where were you hiding. You walked past me three times but that was bs.😂

Could you explain to me how you used to play? i'm from argentina, working on a translation and it would be nice to understand... (i can only relate this video to a version of hide-and-seek...) i would very much appreciate it
@@carminashapiro6465 this will be difficult but ill try. First you need a friend with a public city side walk in their front yard. You set the can on the sidewalk at the center, half the entire length. The person who is "it" is only allowed to walk the length of the side walk. The rest of the players must run and hide while the person who is "it" counts. If you are "it" you walk the length of the sidewalk looking for players. Once you see them you must call them out. "I see Jacob". Now Jacob goes to the bench (sidelines or whatever). Jacob is out. Next, Nick runs to kick the can and the person who is "it" says "I see Mike". Well its Nick not Mike and he kicks the can. "It" loses and must be "it" again. Now Jacob is free to go run and hide again. The person who is "it" must find all players to win and then the first one found is now "it". Its best to play at dusk when the sun is going down. That way its even more difficult to identify each player you see.

@@carminashapiro6465 also, if I recall correctly this video uses a bucket rather than a can. That's no good. Its not called "kick the bucket". You definitely don't want to play kick the bucket, its a one time deal and you won't win. Its called "kick the can" so you should use an aluminum can. It will be better for all the kids toes.
first off its called kick the CAN, not bucket. if you really want to know how to play ask someone from NYC, not someone from the suburbs!

I would disagree with the once you’re found and you have to run back and kick the can too free yourself. Once you’re found you’re found and you’re capture.
