Get a BMX and go right over the top!
Get one of those train horns.
Sadly illegal in some places in the u.s., dont know if it is in SF though
Ninja rocks are definitely illegal to carry.
As an avid SF cyclist, I applaud you. Our city has too many drivers that are terribly inconsiderate to cyclists, and are unaware of the rules and regulations that are in place to help keep cyclists safe.
I cannot believe how patient and calm you are. As you can see from my cycling videos, I don't have much patience for unsafe drivers.
I do have a question though - what does the law say about cars stopped in the bike lane for passenger loading/unloading? What about trucks? I see trucks and Uber/Lyfts stopped in the bike lane the most - it's just the thing that everyone does here in SF, but I'd like to know more about what they are required to do.
+Agent X85B Thank you - and I hope you'll join on a ride sometime. It'll be better in a team/group to talk with drivers and we can give each other support to keep the nerves down. Here's our group: bit.ly/BikesNotCars.
I remember seeing your video from last February - crazy, but I'm sure so many cyclists here have similar experiences. How did that situation play out? I hope the driver was charged with something.
As for the legal question, my understanding is that registered city taxis may stop in bike lanes ONLY to pick up or drop off disabled or elderly passengers. No other vehicles may ever stop in a bike lane at any time (except emergency vehicles, of course). Some think that commercial vehicles can stop in bike lanes to load/unload, but that's not true. They just get away with it because they rarely get ticketed and even if they do, it's a drop in the bucket for a big company.
i get more reaction byjust drivinginto the back of their cars,
1:18. Perfect example. There's an entrance right there that they could block temporarily. But instead they feel more comfortable blocking bike lanes and blocking actual cyclists than potentially blocking a car that might hypothetically show up and maybe try to get into the entrance.
And they have driving licence... -_-
so do i, but i only use the car about 3 to 4 times a year...
i have 7 bicycles, all are over 48 years old and i love riding them. the oldest is from the 1930's, the youngest is from 1968...
Been waiting for somebody to do this since obviously the City won't do anything. Been especially inspired by the whole Stop a Douchebag movement in Russia, so glad to see something like this here in SF where bicyclists are treated as second-class citizens by motorists and the City.
I'm a cyclist and I completely agree with getting cars and trucks out of bike lanes. But I have had a lot of difficulty with getting commercial vehicles out of the bike lanes. It's considered part of their business to be in the street temporarily and everyone is expected to go around them. The theory is that you will go around them and then cars will go around you (or wait, technically). My city even has a law that says specifically that a commercial vehicle can legally block any lane (driving, bike, sidewalk, etc) for up to 30 minutes. So I usually don't get a response of it's my first call. Just keep that in mind to maybe save some stress on your part.
+rhyno6 What he said. Especially about commercial vehicles
The mouthy lady had a license plate that said "Gonna be late" lol
You know what you need? You need a train horn. I would absolutely LOVE to see those reactions!
Great work
this is l like the American "stopxam" l love it!
Lol the last car and the look on that lady's face. Priceless. 😂 I'm lucky I live in a city with plenty of bike lanes and with cars that seem to respect them. Hopefully you guys stay safe out there.
Good to see.. Love the video.
Traffic Droid
the parking and bike lane should be swapped around
Things will change when police fine drivers from cam footage.
You could get stickers like StopKham but of course sovereign citizens and folks like that would sue your a** off.
You need an air-horn.
+Zach Hanna I would LOVE an air horn that sounds like a car horn. Only seems fair if cars are parking in bike lanes.
+Cars Out of Bike Lanes SF Get an Airzound off Amazon, mine cost £18 delivered and it's saved my arse more times than I'd care to mention.
+jesusofscotland I'll look into that now. Do you have to get new air canisters for it every so often?
+Cars Out of Bike Lanes SF Nope, there's a valve under the thumb switch that you put a regular pump onto and that charges it, you can pressure it up to 100 psi in summer and overpressure it by 20 psi in winter.
+jesusofscotland Oh very cool! Thanks for the tip.
two words "AIR HORN"
Can you come over to Chicago? :P
I have plenty of videos of moronic drivers parked in the bike lanes. It's a nuisance.
+Chicago Biker POV We just need to get groups together and do this as teams! I like your videos a lot, I hope to post more stuff like that here.
+Cars Out of Bike Lanes SF Exactly, the more people the better. Ride safe!
Thanks, you, too!
Keep up the good work man, would love to see more :-)
+Ash Martin Thanks - hoping to get a group together for the next one!
Gather all your biking friends, collect a bunch of old, discarded bikes and park them in the car lane.
When the police order you to move them, do so. To the next street.
If you can make sure you get plenty of media attention, maybe eventually the penny will drop.
At least you'll get some excellent footage.
in greece we don't have as many bike lanes as you do but it's still a problem because drivers don't even pay attention to cyclists, thus causing a lot of accidents everyday
This came up .. 6 years later and it's still the same. Is it actually OK to show the plates of the offenders ( vs it being a 'privacy violation' because now everyone knows/could know who they are ) ? I so wish they could get rid of some of that on-street parking also, less chance of getting hit by a door.
come to Boston
Love it! But were any of these chumps actually ticketed?
+Nick Aster There's a chance! The sure way to find out is the ask the SFMTA or submit a public records request.
Put a sticker on their windshield
+Fred B. That would be more effective, but I worry about private property laws in the U.S. - people here take that stuff way too seriously.
+Fred B. Bow this is the U.S he'll get his teeth kicked in touching ppls shit. lol
You need a better "horn". No one will take that seriously lol
You know... since you're inspired by Stop A Douchebag, you should take their other idea. Make a sticker (Or a magnet that can be tossed on the car) that reads something to the effect of "I don't care about cyclists and other drivers, I park where I want."
If someone won't move, or isn't there to move, stick in on their car and keep going. Stickers would go on the glass, magnets on the car.
+etansivad That would be more effective, but I worry about private property laws in the U.S. - people here take that stuff way too seriously. The police would not be on my side and I would get cited for destruction of property. Also, that may not help improve relations between cyclists and drivers.
But I wish I could! It looks so satisfying on the StopXam videos.
+Cars Out of Bike Lanes SF
So then do magnets. A magnet can leave a message without scratching the paint or damaging anyone's property. There's already one for cars that almost hit people: petermiller.info/webimages/yellowcard.pdf
Well done. But to live up to "Stop a Douchebag" the result should be "Drivers:0" in the end :-)
I'm afraid, one can't do that alone. You need to have a team at the spot and the police ready to assist if you call them.
+youppel Totally agree! This video the first call to action and I've already got a small group of San Franciscans ready to help with the next one!
I wish the police and Traffic Enforcement would be able to come on a moment's notice, but unfortunately they aren't too helpful. That's why I'm doing this in the first place.
strap an air horn to your bike!
need an electric powered airhorn
In Turkey, it's worse and you are luckier than us because people don't beat you there.
I carry a red paint can and just leave my mark as i go by
I understand the semi making a delivery but the other cars... :/
+SonnoMaku LOL facepalm t's worse if it's a big semi making a delivery. Does that mean businesses can fuck with my rights of freedom of movement.
+SonnoMaku LOL facepalm t's worse if it's a big semi making a delivery. Does that mean businesses can fuck with my rights of freedom of movement.
rubbiebubbie Where do you want them to park to make their delivery?
+SonnoMaku I would suggest that dense cities increase the amount of loading zones or that trucks making deliveries block car lanes instead of bike lanes (that's only fair, right?).
The real solution to all of this is infrastructure changes that support vehicles making deliveries and support and physically protect alternate modes of transit like biking, walking, buses, etc.
Cargo bike deliveries.
You should buy an AirZound or a similar loud horn.
get a Airzound...
People are so polite to the jerks in SF. In NY we just call them an a-hole that they are. Watch Zero Enigma’s channel if you want an example
This is problem is ALL COUNTRIES that have bicycle lanes.
At least your city has bike lanes! LOL. Good work man.
Selective non enforcement is the problem.
Tap everyone who blocks the lane with piece of broken spark plug on a window as you sail on by, byeeee.
You are way to polite. Maybe they just can't see that they are in a bike lane. Maybe you could attempt to clear up the windshield with some WD-40? Start on the drivers side and work your way across to the passengers side. That just might make the bike lane more visible for them; next time.
lol funny
Well dude, what you act is just like me for the past 5 years when I found Pedestrian Coalition because so many drivers and motorist park on the pavement @trotoarian.
Maybe you could lobby for a law allowing cyclists with cameras to record illegally parked cars (with a shot of their license plate), send the video to the local cops, and the owner of the car would then be issued a parking ticket.
And the police???
Get a real horn if you want to be taken seriously!
Your wimpy sounding bike bell needs to be upgraded to something very much louder. And why are you being so respectful to this idiots when you should get louder?
i would be smashing the mirrors, macing them, if they talk back and flatten their tires, but that's just old grumpy me. i really can't stand these lazy violators in their little tanks. some of them even apologize, but five minutes later, they will do it again
I do this in chicago, they just pull their gun and tell me to keep moving.
+MrNoscopethepope Webcams are great proof in a court of law when firearms are used, and the police get a little pissed as well
SHARE the road, ALL OF YOU. Be considerate and flexible. Have a little mutual respect. Bikes AND cars.
Do you expect themto believe this. I don't think they will because they will just keep on the right there mr. So if I were you I would stop where you doing before I report your CZcams videos and your account
