    Komamura's whole deal is very Buddhist in thought. There's a term in Buddhism/Hinduism, "Ahmisa", which adheres to a principle of nonviolence toward any living being. The sole exception being self-defense or to save the lives of others. Revenge is NOT considered a noble exception. This also ties into the whole "Beast Race/Realm" aspect of Komamura's story: in Buddhism, the Beast Realm is when the soul is reincarnated as an animal in the next life due to bad karma, and is considered one of the "Hells" one can go to when you die. Accumulating sin in one's heart by desiring violence is one of the ways one can fall into those "hells". Granted, Kubo took a lot of liberties with all this (Sajin doesn't literally "die", but "leaves his life behind", for example) but that's the overall theme.

    • @dougla517
      @dougla517 Před 4 měsíci

      Is Sajin still intelligent/sapient, or has he been reduced to just being a beast? I'm guessing the former, because his Grandfather maintains intelligence.
      Would it be possible for Sajin to return to his former form of his karma improved enough, perhaps?
      Sajin is one of my favourite Captains, and I really feel he was done slightly dirty with the Humanization Technique - it didn't really achieve a whole lot for how much it cost him.

      That was my take on it as well. His fight against Bambietta was a fight to protect his comrades, even as he was staking his life to avenge Yamamoto, but once she was defeated, revenge once again dominated his heart. Hence, the curse reactivated. The whole thing was a poison pill from the start.

    • @Silyon487
      @Silyon487 Před 4 měsíci +10

      This is largely the conclusions I've come to regarding Komamura as well, but it's even darker than that from what I understand. In some sects of Buddhism, being human is a mere one or two steps below Nirvana and true enlightenment, and all manner of beasts are lesser because they lack some inherent "humanity" that humans alone posses. Because all beings aspire to Nirvana, all beings must therefore become human before making that final climb to enlightnement. That's what Komamura's heart represents in his whole tragic arc. It's not literally his heart, contrary to how it may look (because Soul Society is the afterlife remember, everyone's bodies reflect the state of their soul), but rather the budding core of humanity that he earned for himself in distancing himself from the Beast Clan in the first place.
      Theoretically, there's nothing stopping Komamura from regrowing the humanity he sacrificed, but it would take time. Like thousands of years time. Meanwhile his dear grandad gets to sit on the side and gorge himself on scraps stolen from people like him. Lovely man.

    For Komamura, I think the thing is that Komamura had to remain steady and resolved the entire time, keep his purpose in his mind of protecting soul society and protecting the things Yamamoto wanted to protect, but after his battle with Bambietta it wore him down enough that those emotions got muddled and baser, the purpose just became an excuse for his hatred rather than his hatred fueling his purpose. I think a young Yamaji recruiting the notorious criminal Yachiru Unohana to the first generation Gotei 13 would be a good way to show her full, prime strength, as I could imagine a scenario where Unohana only agrees to join Yamaji's little murder gang if he defeats her in combat (because of course that's what happened).
    The two would have a fierce battle of Zanjutsu, with Yamaji gaining respect for her skill with the blade actually surpassing his own via her countless sword styles. Unohana would eventually pull out her Bankai Minazuki and fiercely clash against his Ryujin Jakka, though I think she would eventually be bested and spared by the Head Captain. Perhaps due to her healing it turned into a battle of attrition she was very slowly loosing, and thus she willingly conceded?
    She might well have even been the one who gave Yamaji the very first scar across his forehead, with Choujiro later creating the second. That could also be why he was so impressed by her.

    This discussion about the notion that Hitsugaya and Matsumoto could have realized that Ichigo was related to Isshin from his spiritual pressure reminded me of a scene aired in the anime. When we see Ichigo going bankai for the very first time (a truly epic moment!) against Byakuya, we see a shot of Hitsugaya and Matsumoto being absolutely shocked by it. I always thought that this was done to showcase how powerful Ichigo was, but now I realize that the reason those two specific people were shown to us out of all the others was because Ichigo going bankai made them realize that he was in fact related to their former captain. But could be funny if Ichigo still got bad blood with them too, idk seems like a unexplored little side plot that for such a small side character it got a lot of screen time even coming back at the last arc.

    I think Yamamoto and Unohana met like Zaraki and Ikkaku, where Unohana on her quest for power and the title of strongest, sought out Genryusai and challenged him, he beat her up and chose to spare her because he was impressed by her potential.
    Instead of killing her, he used her goal to become a strongest to tie her down by making her an offer, claiming to be the strongest shinigami there is and if she follows him, she is free to challenge him whenever she thinks she’s strong enough but in the meantime she would work for him.

      He stood there and allowed Driscoll to strike him with lightning, he did the same with young Chojiro, did a similar thing against both Shunsui and Ukitake, same with base Aizen, Ayon, Wonderweiss and so on. The one time Yamamoto actually went on the offensive was against Yhwach, and even then, he only used Bankai just to spite him and display the difference in their power... He was being emotional about Chojiro's death, he clearly was already stronger even in base... he perception blitzed Loyd and rescued Zaraki even before Loyd could realize what was happening, he had enough speed to decapitate him at any point he wanted.
      He never evades or even bothers to block, hence all those scars on his body and the lore behind his name is a pun on how his scars are shaped based on how many scars he has, he eventually settled for Genryusai officially from Eijisai, Juujisai to Genryusai to honour Sasakibe. Meaning, it was so "normal" for him to get scars that other Shinigami started giving him nicknames based on the scars.
      Unohana on the other hand fights with no openings, even her bankai is a reflection of that where blades of blood are omnidirectionally shielding her from any attacks.
      Yamamoto's bankai on the other hand just compliments his challenging nature, if you're powerful enough to reach him, go right ahead, as his reiatsu cloaks him in at least 15million degrees of heat. So when you do touch him, you know he ALLOWED you to do so, making all those scars trophies of sorts in a twisted way.
      It's just a difference in choice of fighting style, not a measure of their skill or strength.
      If anything, the fact that Yamamoto is still alive after receiving all those scars (supposedly some from Unohana) proves my point... from the Chojiro fight, he just stands there in base with openings and allows him to attack him with his best hit in Bankai, assuming he did the same with Unohana, then yeah it makes sense that the scars on his body are bigger than Chojiro's because she's stronger but it also means that, had he even released his shikai or even tried to fight back or defend, her best attack wouldn't even have nicked him... Yes, she has no scars, but it simply means Yamamoto never actually fought back (assuming they fought), because we know that he literally takes souls whenever he fights seriously, she would have at least some burn scars on her body if they truly fought.
      They aren't comparable in power, maybe skill but not physical strength, reiatsu or anything otherwise.

    Kubo does say "selfish" instead of "good" or "bad" when describing how the curse works. I don't think the objective of killing Yhwahc in and of it self is what activated the curse, I believe wanting to kill Yhwach for the purpose of satisfying his blood lust is, and if Komomura did it purely out of a sense of duty or protecting others he wouldn't have transformed. That's why the moment he was no longer protecting people from Bambietta he transformed. For why he didn't immediately transform into a dog after doing the curse when apparently having selfish motivations, I believe he must have resolved himself to do it as a duty after learning of the cost of the curse since his selfish comments were before he knew what was at risk and what he would have to do, but lost that resolve to his anger after his battle with Bambietta.

      Despite Isane's normally meek demeanor, there are times when a fiercer side is hinted at. She was one of the lieutenants who charged at Ichigo on Sokyoku Hill, she wanted to attack Aizen as he was leaving only to be restrained by Unohana, and she also wanted to fight the Exequias after arriving in Hueco Mundo, only to once again be held back by her captain. This leads me to think that Isane does have a fighter in her buried underneath her shy, self-conscious exterior, and Unohana was able to pick up on this.

    Considering that Yamamoto and Unohana are the only ones left of the original Gotei 13, it is possible that the unity of the original 13 lasted only for so long as they had a common enemy to fight (Lichtreich Quincy). My theory is that, after the war ended, at least some of them were power-hungry and cutthroat enough to challenge Yamamoto's rule and were thusly killed by him. Unohana survived due to her being the master swordswoman Kenpachi and/or making a deal with Yamamoto.🤔

    It's possible the curse gets stronger the closer one gets and more one does towards achieving the "purpose" (killing Yhwach) of the technique, or possibly that you have to perform enough actions with ill intent trying to achieve the purpose before the curse "decides" you've been ill intentioned enough.
    In other words, the more things Komamura did and the more he exerted himself trying to get to Yhwach while caring more about getting revenge than doing it for the betterment of the world, the more the curse activates until he's been selfish "enough" to transform. If he'd truly wanted to defeat Yhwach for the sake of the world rather than for the sake of revenge for Yamamoto, he may not have ever transformed into a beast at all, but he couldn't banish that feeling in the end.

    with sajin, i think perhaps the curse was likely treading a fine line because on one had, killing yhwach would be to protect the soul society and by extension the world of the living and hueco mundo, on the other his surrogate father was murdered by the same man. his motives would easily slip to selfish vengeance from his loyal duty to soul society. I think if the curse is a question of the afflicteds reason or desire then by the time he turned to save shinji the curse had decided since he clearly wanted to go straight for the head ignoring the lower enemies along the way, even leaving his Allies to fight a battle he would've won quick enough. With the removal of the heart it makes sense to me with my thought as its almost as though the curse is stripped of the emotions that brought you here, are your motives/desires pure or are you selfish throughout, the latter leading to the transformation

    1) They found each other before becoming Arrancar at some point or other and looked similar or just got along and when they removed their masks they did a careful job to look similar. This sounds unlikely as I don't think they get to choose such things, but less likely things have happened before.
    Or
    2) They took a file or a blade and hacked away at their masks. Considering Nel turned into a child because her cracked mask leaked her reiatsu so heavily I would argue shaving their masks would severely weaken them. Instead of filing down your nails you're filing down your fingers.

    There are so many people who seem to think that Unohana was 'recruited' into the Gotei 13. Nah. I don't think so at all. Part of a thought experiment I've been doing with my current fan fic is about this very situation. What are the facts? At some point, Unohana Yachiru joined the Gotei 13, solidifying herself as the first Kenpachi, and having learned Kaido in order to enjoy fighting even longer. Her skill as a swordsman is unmatched. She was described by Shunsui as the most dangerous criminal in all of Soul Society. Given the others who were around during that time, *that* in and of itself speaks volumes. She would've had no motive for joining the Gotei 13. So Old Man Yama had to force her. And there's only one way to force her into something like that. Gather enough hardened like-minded criminals on your side in order to persuade the rest. Yamamoto likely gave her an ultimatum. Join us and take up a leadership position, securing your future within the Soul Society, or die, here and now. You'll likely kill your way through more than half of us. But you won't be able to kill us all. This harkens to the very reason that she was out in the woods searching for a fight, for meaning in the first place, when she first came across Zaraki. Because she couldn't do that any more within the Seireitei. The Seireitei became something of a house arrest for her. A prison of boredom. Mutually assured survival through the threat of mutually assured destruction. The fight may have even happened. She may well have cut down an untold amount of enemies before Yamamoto got the upper hand on her.

    I also think the curse means the curse of the beast clan. By doing the technique, you take on the curse and Komamura's great-grandfather is just the current being that is the bearer of the curse or something. So he can spread it others in his clan.

    Does anybody feel that the hole in Komamura's chest look suspiciously like a hollow hole?

    Biggest question is how did the original Gotei died besides Yamamoto and Unohana, they weren't killed by Quincy as far as we know so what sort of monstrous power showed up after Yhwach and mowed them down?

    Kukaku and Ishhin age is an interesting topic. I believe it was stated Urahara and Kukaku are the same age. Is Isshin older or younger than them? Since Isshin seems to be closer in age to Gin and Byakuya based on EBTR.

    I think it's safe to say the hell arc is gonna happen. I think Kubo is waiting because the anime will become the new canon and we will need to wait for the anime to end to understand the new material he wants to add to the manga.

    Unohana and Yamamoto are in Hell, and as we've seen with Szayel Aporro, you kinda lose your total sense of mind in hell. I'd imagine they'll be total lunatic murderers in hell, fitting to be wardens like Ukitake. Their brutality will probably come up in conversation with someone in the manga as a flashback to their history together and the way they met will be brought up.

    I do feel like there was a lot of foreshadowing about Isshin and Ichigo’s background. During the SS arc, Ukitake does believe Ichigo to look a lot like Kaien, before Byakuya simply says it’s not him. It’s very possible, in my mind at least, that Byakuya was aware that Ichigo’s Reiatsu was in fact similar to Isshin when he was a captain, along with him looking a lot like Kaien, but simply shrugged it off as being a mere coincidence. This is also why I believe Rukia was willing to lend Ichigo her powers in the first place. Because of that familiarity.

    I think yamamoto and unohana were equal when it comes to sword play but yamamoto dominated the fight by using his shikai since at the time it might be rare for someone to even awaken their zanpakto

    With Komamura becoming Human it could be that the selfless guideline he was instructed to follow is to use his Human Form to defend others. After Bambi wasn't continuously killing Shinigami because she was defeated, Komamura attempted to use the Human Form to go on the offensive and I believe that is why also why he turned into a beast. Juha wasn't attacking anyone

    My head cannon has always been Lolly and Melony (i know im spelling them wrong) were an experiment of Aizen to recreate the situation that existed between Starrk and Lillynette. One soul, two bodies, and that they were just weaker from him creating the *end* result artificially with the Hogyoku as opposed to the natural creation of Starrk and Lillynette.

    I figured that the terms of the curse was to avenge Yamamoto and Bambi didn’t kill Yamamoto so killing her wasn’t avenging Yamamoto thus fulfilling the curse. As long as Sajin didn’t kill anyone else besides Ywach, he could’ve stayed off the curse.

    Man I want anime for lore of bleach to many details

  • @YamiNetto
    @YamiNetto Před 4 měsíci

    Small details I noticed about Sajin's dilemma, Yhwach's entire character and the offhand comments from the Wolf Clan Elder seemed to imply that the "Bestman Clan would endure regardless of who was in charge" (paraphrasing), which seemed to imply that for whatever reason, Sajin's grandfather implies some knowledge of the Soul King's existence as a linchpin, since "they will exists regardless of the state of the world".
    Yhwach explicitly makes clear his end goal in killing Reio - HIS FATHER - was to spare him the humiliation of being the lynchpin that perpetuates suffering and the fear of death in his twisted form of salvation. And Reio's "The Almighty" was stated in CFYOW to be far superior to even Yhwach's, able to see the future as it WILL happen a million years postmortem. Including his son's actions, and taking in both his power, and by extension Mimihagi, Pernida and Gerard, thus becoming the new Reio, and thus the new crux of maintaining the Balance of Souls
    Is it possible that Sajin's desire for revenge, the moment he turns his revenge to Yhwach for killing Yamamoto and so many others, in of itself the criteria for "a selfish act"? Since by intending to kill the incumbent linchpin of reality that keeps the 3 worlds' stability in check, Sajin would have by extension damned all of creation if he succeeded?
    I know I'm flying by the seat of my hypothesizing clown pants here, but there has to be some overarching reason why Sajin explicitly nlost everything at such an accelerated pace the moment he defeated Bambi. Could Beast Clan Curse actually have to due with the Soul King and 5 Great Noble Clans in the Original World? We know that human souls have the Chain of Fate as a stopgap from Hollows flooding the world again, but then where do the Beast Clan, a "bloodline of human sinners", come into the mix? Could they have been pardoned from Hell after a stay and reincarnate as beast like the Buddhist Samsara Bleach emulates? Maybe Sajin's clan have ties to the 5th Unnamed Great Noble Clan we theorize exclusively watches Hell? And by nature of Sajin's actions w/ the Humanization technique single-handedly threatened to enact some series of events that caused Armageddon and the literal end of everything so the curse kicked in to prevent such scenarios?
    Considering Kubo's teases leave just enough to never connect the big picture it feels like even the smallest details are their own trails of dominoes.
