      Hi Roland. Sorry it took a little longer than expected to get back to you with some measurements. But here's what i got. First of all the rack is the Med-XL option The top deck dimensions are as follows width 140mm, length 394mm and the height of the rack from the bottom bolt to the top of the rack is 387mm. And the tube diameter is 10mm. I hope this is helpful in some way. Safe Travels

    Thank you so much for this review! I was doubting the mounting system with the two no bolt hole extension arms.

    Super useful review. Wish I had watched it prior to buying my rack. Totally agree with your comments on not being strict on classification as “bike packing” or “bike touring.” You can do a bit of both in the same trip.

    I have this rack on my Trek Crossrip, and have put many miles on it; the only advice I have is to periodically make sure that the bolts are tight, especially those top bolts (Trek calls them "Strut Nuts". I had one fall off once and found that the other one was loose. Because of how they attach, a loose top bolt can slide off the rod that attaches to the seatstay and fall off the bike.

      Hello Smokey. I am glad the review was helpful, that is my only goal with these gear videos. i would say that at only $80 cad it's actually a good deal for the durability I have experienced with it. Just be sure to get the deluxe version as it is the stronger rack in Trek's lineup. Thanks for watching. Cheers

    Any idea what the difference is between the normal and deluxe model? can't find any info on their pag and the only difference i can sus out is the small extra L piece of metal welded near the base, and for an extra $20 (aud) i'm confused on what possible benefit it could give over the normal MIK.

    • @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
      @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures  Před 3 dny +1

      The deluxe has a separate bar for panniers. The base model can not be used with a trunk bag and panniers at the same time. I'm sure if you look more closely you will see what I'm talking about.
      Safe travels.

    What was your decision process to use this rack as opposed to the standard 1120 rear rack system? I have an 1120 as well that I am just now setting up for touring/bikepacking so I am curious. I know some have had issues with the original system failing.

    • @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
      @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi Rod. My initial decision to not use the standard rack was because of the known issues with the rack breaking. At the time I was working at a Trek store and a Tech at Trek advised me to use a different rack. Trek fixed the issues a few years back and from what I understand the standard rack system is now solid.
      The reason I have stuck with this rack is because of the maximum load capacity. The BackRack Deluxe has a max load capacity of 55Ibs while the standard 1120 rack only has a 26Ibs load capacity. A big difference and from what I understand a big reason the standard racks were failing is because of people severely over loading them. For really long distance trips 26Ibs is not enough in my opinion.
      Sorry for the long winded response but it's one of those questions that requires it. Lol
      Thanks for watching. Cheers

    • @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
      @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures  Před 7 měsíci +2

      @rodstallings4912 if you have a 2021 your good. The issue was with the first generation 1120's.
      The 2021 has the reinforced seatstay mounts and from what I understand there solid. I still hangout at the Trek shop I worked for so it helps me stay in the loop with Trek.
      Please let me know how things turn out for you. Cheers

      @@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures I went by the Trek shop and talked to the guys there today. Took my SN# to confirm the frame date (I bought it used and built it up) and found it was a 2020. However, I went ahead and bought the Backrack. The problem with the stock rack is that if you just want to use it for simple flat things it is not the greatest. Good for dry bags, but that is about it. I mounted the Backrack and rode today and think I will really like it. I have mine set up similar to yours and even ordered a Jones 2.5 loop last week that I am waiting on. At 6’6” I tend to have to do a lot of fiddling to get the fit right. I am hoping the Jones will be the ticket. Have tried a lot of bars so far.

    I want a front rack for my checkpoint. I was thinking of ordering one from Amazon for $50 but I see you have a bontrager FR, do you think that rack would work with the checkpoint?

    • @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
      @WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Hello. No unfortunately it will not. the rack on my bike is specific to the 1120 fork in the way that it bolts on. When I worked at the Trek store we commonly installed the Bontrager Carry Forward front rack on checkpoints. I'm not sure it's the style your loking for but it is a very sturdy rack. Here is the rack I am talking about.
