- How to make MOCHI at home?
Mochi is rice cake. Sticky and stretchy.
Mildly sweet, but often made sweeter for dessert.
Anko(red bean paste) and Kinako(Soy flour) are common condiments to mochi.
Mochi ice cream is not a huge thing in Japan, but I know it has made it’s way through to the world.
Mochi, with it’s unique texture, has always been the center of Japanese desserts.
By the way, we have many of these talking electric devices in Japan.

My mother is from Japan and mochi is one of my favorites - I love it so much I can eat it plain. As a kid, my mom's friends would always give us mochi right before the new year. Growing up, I've always wanted a mochi maker so we could make it year-round. A few years back, we inherited a maker and now every year I help my mom set up the machine. We are making a batch for ourselves and to share with friends as I type this. :)
Sounds great!!! If you freeze mochi while it’s still soft(individually wrapped is better but in a zip lock works too maybe a bit messy), it says soft even after defrosted😁
Sing your song. It actually helps me follow along and
learning these cooking techniques has been a real eye opener, growing up frying everything in oil (ok, that’s your other videos). But I hope to master some of these because I love what you are teaching and the way you teach.

Thank you so much for your such kind comment!!!
I am a cooking class instructor in Japan and I talk a lot during class, no singing. But always, one or two students yawning... so I thought funny voice singing and meaningful lyrics would add something to my videos😄 I’m glad you found it a positive 🥰
@@japanese1cooking you are a good teacher, but you helped me with realizing how music can help me learn. I’ve always had a very good memory for music, so maybe that’s why. I hope you explore these different ways of teaching!

3:05 Does the machine apply heat during this process?
León Arcano
Heat is used when steaming(technically, simmering?) the rice. The machine may still produce a bit of heat, but it’s most likely the heat here is the heat left from the previous step. No additional heat is necessary at this point😄
@@japanese1cooking thank you! You're cool. :)

Thank you👍🏼
Do you have to sing that song tune over and over? It’s depressing
It’s a bit depressing. But there is something about it... Aishuu.哀愁。分かんねえかなあ。
