Had a 1978 Z1-R (stock). I was the second owner and I remember the guy I bought it from made me stand along the highway while he negotiated a very well known set of "S" turns on the outskirts of Trenton, NJ. The Z was not known as a good handling bike but he went through waaaay faster than I would even think about. The bike was eager to please you and went where it was pointed. A good launch would deliver a knockout boulevard kill shot. An unfortunate kid in a Camaro of one iteration or another learned the hard way. When we got to the next traffic light his chin was on his chest. My all time Kodak moment with this bike happened during a trip to the Dairy Queen. I went into the ice cream stand and came out to find a drop dead blonde sitting on my bike. She wanted to go for a ride. Let's be honest...The Z1-R was stunning. The paint, wheels and little fairing were perfect. A Japanese superbike icon for sure.
Always loved this bike.....unfortunately I was 21 and a broke college student when it came out. It's lines have aged very well. I have owned my 1975 CB750F for 45 years. It is as far from stock as can be imagined down to my billet block machined out of a 70 pound chunk of aluminum. Nikasil plated with an over + 10mm bore. Just about 107 RWHP and nicknamed "The Million Dollar CB".😁

So did I ...Out of Oakland Ca. Out the door $2,888.88 back in Oct. 1979. Loved that bike to death until it was stolen from in front of my house in San Jose in 1986. I miss that bike everyday.
Also the '1979 Turbo version sold through Kawasaki dealers without a warranty. The '80 normally aspirated version had dual exhaust and a larger gas tank.

大昔に代官山辺りでスーツ＋ジェットヘル姿で乗ってる人がカッコ良すぎて今でも記憶に焼き付いてます、、

Z1Rが販売当時は高値の花で一般ライダーは手が出なかったですが
代官山でその服装で走らせたら目が釘付けになったのも分かります。
本当に美しい
ナイフで削ぎ落とした様なエッジの立ったタンクやカウル 絶妙な角度で跳ね上がるテール 青味かがったシルバー ピンスト風の繊細なライン メーカー純正の集合管 Ⅱ型よりこの初期型のフロント18インチと平たいタンクがやっぱりかっちょいい！ ライダーもシブい！

Great bike, but in '79, getting outdated.
Just too heavy imo.
I guess that these were very robust though.
Only made 2 years. 78 was silver with points. 80 was black with electronic ignition.
