- Join me for another 26 hour call shift and a day in the life of a doctor! Currently I'm on the nephrology team (kidney specialists) which means I see patients in the emergency department, on the ward and in the dialysis unit.
Join me for a consult about a diabetic foot infection, pronouncing a patient who passed away and answering pages throughout the night.

Hi I am about to do the 800!!! Like!!
Just did it like 1 second after!!
So I just learned I've been hearing her name wrong the whole time. Thought it was something like Chevon
RIP to the patient who passed away.
My prayers go to the grieving family of the deceased person💔
Aww rip 😪
I could NEVER be a nurse or doctor for this reason.
@@jessicakabelwelter2774 Understandable.

I definitely don't miss being on call..I'm retired now😊..my grandson just finished his fourth year and is now going into oncology.
Good luck to him! And thank you for all your work :)
Haha I can only imagine!! Congrats to your grandson that’s a great field!
I see you do Parrot rescue?, me too!!!!!
Aww congrats to him
My mom has cancer and I would like to thank everyone on the medical team so tell your grandson that I said thank you !
What’s oncology
Speaking of that pesky ringtone, was once watching a video of yours with my EMT bf asleep in the room. When your pager went off, he BOLTED out of bed and started freaking tf out thinking he was late to a call. 😂😂😂
He complained saying you used the most annoying ring and it was the one he despised the most. 😂🤷
I now watch your videos with earbuds as a result. 😂😂😂
I use my AirPods because if I don’t my parents would think they missed an important call
That’s really funny
🤣🤣🤣
Those pagers are like Nokia phones from the 90'. ALMOST indestructible, and can seriously hurt someone if it's thrown at them. Not that I have personal knowledge of being hit in the head with one.
I actually broke a pager one time, it fell apart into three pieces: case, circuit board and the buttons. Switchboard/Locating wasn't very happy about it since its a Code Stemi pager. How did it break? it fell out of my scrubs shirt pocket and hit the floor while i was cleaning (Housekeeper)
Hospitals where I live and where I’ll work have valsarah which is like a little thing you talk to and it calls who you want to talk to and you don’t have to page them. They just clip onto your scrubs.
Camille Mae yeah, same with the area where I live.
I wanted to laugh at this but I read it just as she mentioned the the patient who passed away and I couldn’t laugh
Hi, Siobhan. I adore your videos and they were a part of my decision to pursue medicine following the Bachelor’s degree I’m currently working towards. Would you ever consider doing a full week in your life? So that we can see more of the work-life balance, things like how you spend your days out of the hospital and the number of hours that you end up being at the hospital vs. at home?
I'm thinking about doing the same (study medicine after bachelor) but I can't stop obsessing over if i will be to old then.. do you worry about that aswell or is it just me (because i tend to worry a lot lol)
Belg it depends on how old you are now. but if you graduate high school and work full time towards becoming a doctor you should be about 26 by the time you achieve it and for me that is an okay age! i worry about being old too to do all the things i want (i want to become either a dentist or doctor ) to do, but you'll still be very young trust me!! don't worry about all the years it takes, it's going to be worth it.
@@kiki-qf3qx I already graduated High School. It's just that I struggled a lot with my health during high school which caused me to be absent a lot. I live in europe and in order to be allowed to start studying medicine one needs to pass a standardized state exam and that's the obstacle i've yet to overcome.I'm almost 20 now so now i'm just struggling a lot with wether or not I want to actually pursue it or just give up and go do something "easier". I'm not sure how much time I would need to prepare for the exam. I'm just having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that life threw obstacles on my way which prevented me from starting at a younger age. I know it may sound ridiculous since i'm "only" 20 but to me it's a big deal. I could try to get a BA in something else i'm passionate about (something easier) and preparing for the exam during that, at least then I won't be left empty handed if it turns out medicine isn't for me after all... uggh so many ifs and buts.. sorry If i bored you lol
That’s what I’m wondering. If she works 26 hours, does she get 4 days off ? Lol
I live two blocks from the hospital you’re at ❤️
Love the videos. Is there an actual valid reason as to why 26 hour shifts exist? With the known effects of sleep deprivation I would think that a position as critical as a doctor would have required daily rest periods.
If truck drivers are forced by law to take 8 hours after hitting 14 hours or so.
It seems to smack of potential mistakes being made.
I have to say, watching your videos has actually helped with my fear of doctors and hospitals. I had some medical-related trauma as a teenager and for years I couldn't even go to a hospital without having a panic attack. Something about watching you calmly and cheerfully do your job in a hospital has helped remove that anxiety. (Still physically flinched watching you explain that probe-to-bone test... some kinds of pain you just don't forget haha.)
Thank you for sharing your career with us. I may not want to work in medicine, but these videos are helpful to me all the same.
Siobhan, you should have your own t.v. show! I bet it would be a hit.
Oh wow thanks Sergio!
You are the cutest! I love how respectful and nice you speak about your patients and how well structured and smart your content is! :)
26 hrs shouldn't be legal ever, honestly it's so bad for your body
Well sometimes it has to happen
They have on call rooms
She just stays in the call room so she jd getting Atkest 2 hours
Guess theyve done studies and shorter shifts have higher patient death rates due to the required communication and coordination. Regular shifts would have 3 times the amount of people whove only been around the patients for a third of the day so there can be a communication breakdown potentially between doctors handing handing shifts off.
State and federal labor laws don't apply to hospital's I guess ,
Siobhan, I seriously wish u worked in ireland! Theres no doctor out there thats so kind and supportive as u! Any day that i’m in hospital for bloods of anything like that, it seems so boring untill u upload and itz like i’m in another world some how!
Yay I’m early finally! I’m so obsessed with this 26-hour shifts videos 🥰❤️
Hi Luna! That’s amazing - glad to hear it
Violin MD wow I’m freaking out so much 😭 you’re such an inspirational person and I look up to you so much! I can’t believe you noticed my comment ❤️😭
(also sorry for the typo in the first comment, it’s bugging me so much too)
I'm a medical student myself and watching your videos gives me so much motivation and positive energy... Much love
I wonder if you could do a video about how procedures are after someone has sadly passed away at hospital or on the way to hospital.
I have seen many fighting for the life part but I have never been actual part of the team when someone has passed away and wonder how it is there where you work.
Great suggestion - yes I will plan to do that for sure!
@@ViolinMD thank you! I applaud you for always making your vlogs really interesting and informative!
Well my dad says they put them on a gourney where the body sinks into it. They cover them in a white blanket, so that you can’t tell... not sure what else happens. That would definitely be interesting to know.
@@ViolinMD Rest in peace to the patient who passed on
@@ViolinMD how do you stay so patient when your pager goes off at midnight
R.I.P to the patient who passed away. I hope you had a good life.
You are annoyingly positive. It makes me so happy. This is what everybody wants in a doctor. Thank you for bringing us along with your adventures. I don’t think I would ever have the patience to become a doctor. I can barely wait for coffee to finish. Hello from Alberta Canada
You’re annoyingly positive is not a compliment LOL
@@y.c2935 Your (lol) made it all worth it. Seriously, though this doctor is amazing.
Great video as always! I love the pop ups you put in to give a bit of an explanation of what you are discussing.
*beeeeeeep*
Doctor: omg I think a patient just flatlined!!!
You: oh no that’s just my pager
I love how positive you are! Love your energy so much!
I love watching your videos ! They always cheer me up . Btw can you do a morning or night routine when your not on-call ? Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Yes I love these!!! ❤️ perfect way to start the day before going to work
Your smile and positive energy is contagious!! I love your videos, they’re so inspirational!
Anyone else ‘like’ the video before watching it 😃 ??
Yep x love watching x
George omg me!!
Yes
I pressed "like" before I started watching it.
I always do!
Siobhan! You're part of my Sunday each week here in Australia ! Lovin' your videos and your wealth of knowledge. 😊
I've been following you for a Long time! So proud of you, lots of love from Argentina ❤
I've only seen two of your videos and I love them. You are so kind and considerate.
I loved your content Siobhan!!❤️❤️❤️
I feel compelled to express how glad I am that you really seem to appreciate the nursing team and reply to pages politely! Love your videos!
Cheers from California 🙏🏾 as many have mentioned you’re energetic personality is awesome!! Thanks for sharing today - peace and light to you 🙏🏾
Hey Dave - good to meet you, thanks very much!
The best of my Saturday watching your vlogs! You are so calm even under the circumstances of that patient dying!
Thanks for creating these videos. It's great to get that perspective that so often gets misunderstood. When working a 24 hour shift on an ambulance it's good to know that we aren't the only ones to be sleep deprived!
I appreciate your 26 Hour working Siobhan in the hospital. You did your best care for the Diabetic patients and all kinds of patients. You are one of the best doctors Siobhan. God will make you more successful
*big hug*
Thank you very much for your work and take care ❤
Best part of my day is seeing one of your videos pop up. Keep up the joyful work!
I love watching your videos before falling asleep. They're so interesting but they tire me out because it feels like I'm with you for the whole day and there's no chance at sleeping. You're amazing
What a great start to my day! Havnt been feeling well and seeing a new vid put a smile on my face. Beautiful ring by the way!
I just got into your videos and the moment you said osce I got goosebumps right away because I'm at my first year as a med student, finished my first osce a week ago and watching this video kind of helped me focus my studying process as I get reminded that there's a looong journey waiting ahead. Thank you for the insight !
I literally love watching these videos Siobhan!! They are so interesting and they are really helping in my PreMed Major at school!
I love your positive attitude and genuineness. I knew exactly what an OSCE was because I was a Standardized Patient for 12 years. You're on your way to being a great specialist!!
I wish you did videos during med school! You are the best!
Aww yeah that would have been cool - didn’t even think of it then!
Violin MD I am actually MS1 in Czech Republic, but we study for 6 years! So when I feel miserable I watch your videos to motivate myself! You inspire me so much, thank you ❤️
Absolutely LOVE these videos! Best way to end my work day ☺️
feeling so down this week, yet these videos always bring me so much happiness. thank you for distracting me and always providing positive things to focus on. 💕
I love your videos!! It’s really cool being able to watch how you move from department to department! I couldn’t imagine trying to be proficient at so many specialties. Have a wonderful weekend!! Much love from Oklahoma, USA
Thank you for doing all that you do as a medical professional & sharing with us!
I love your videos, my favorite is watching your hospital call shifts. Just hearing the privacy compliant patient history’s and plans makes me happy. I know you are busy, but I wish you did more call shifts videos and more content in general. Also I have SLE and always worry about developing Lupus nephritis. I just love how you approach Medicine and as a person that has to spend a few weeks a year in the hospital I really hope my residents are like you, and I have had some great ones and a couple OK ones and one BAD one. I look forward to more videos and would love to see some more call shifts!!! I can’t wait to see what path you take, if you go to a fellowship vs Hospitalist vs Primary Care!?!?!?
Found your channel recently. Good content, positive and respectful vibes towards your work setting, colleagues and patients.
I just discovered your channel. I just wanted to say thank you for these videos. I have severe gastroparesis and tachycardia. I have been watching with my Mom and learning a lot about how things might be running while I'm in the hospital. It is making me take better care of myself and helping me understand the doctors... Thanks again.
Just found your channel and I absolutely love it! I love learning from your videos!
wow siobhan, i feel like you have a great energy to run a 26 hour shift! You are a great doctor i hope they make a great idea and make shorter shifts on the future i feel like working on a hospital is kinda intense and keep doing this! Because you are helping and saving people!
These will always be my most favourite types of videos!
the world is so much better with caring and empathetic doctors like you! you truly care about your patients, coworkers, and about the education involved. we need more of that in healthcare!
I love your videos!! You have such a positive outlook!!
These are my favorite kind of videos! I could literally watch them for hours
Aw thanks Shelby!
Hey Siobhan! Just got back from a long day at the hospital getting bloods and regular medication as usual😉But everything didn’t go to plan ! I’ve been having low blood sugars this past week but didn’t realise!Doctors diagnosed me with diabetes!!!! And mabie thats why i’m always low enery and sick all the time😔But not surprised cuz my granny had the exact same, until she passed away on my birthday (the week i was in hospital for 2 weeks with a lung infection) ??Remember??
So grateful for all your videos!!
Great vlog! I hope you guys are having a great weekend! I surely do, and this vlog makes it even better 😊👍
This is my second vid of yours, and I am already your sub by the first vid. i just love your personality and watching your working vlog got me so inspired to do more important things in my life! Thanks babe!
I love helping people and have taken many classes on first aid-and am hoping to learn CPR very soon. but I would never have the guts to go to medical school or become a doctor like you! this channel intrigues me and I look forward to your next video. keep being positive!
You’re such a inspiration! ❤️ i work in the Netherlands and this helps me to stay positive.
I think Siobhan is the most positive person ever. I watch your videos when my enthusiasm is wavering and they really help a lot. Keep smiling :)
My sister is a doctor & she ALWAYS watches your vids for inspiration & to power through on call, so as an inspiring doc, I watch your vids to get inspiration too, and to see what being a doctor is like, and oof, you make it seem so fun & interesting, I CANT WAIT!!💞 love yaaa
God bless doctors and nurses for all you do! Thank you
Itz almost midnight! Just checked my blood sugars and i think i might have a lil emergency here!!! Omw to the hospital...........i’m not suprised if i get admitted for the third time since discharge last week! And i’m not suprised either if my teacher Amanda drops in ! Ugh I feel like I’m just getting sicker the last few weeks!
Méabh Ní Chonghaile wishing the best for you ❤️
Nahlzz honestly no worries 😉 I’m always sick but diabetes seems like it’s own world!! I just need to get used to checking my blood sugars regularly!
So happy to see a new video from you 😁

Love watching your videos 👍🏼
This was such an interesting video siobhan! I work in a microbiology lab and it's always so exciting to see a doctor's view of collecting samples and how our results are interpreted by you 💖
Was actually going through your old videos recently. Love it! Thank you for your services! Have you ever slept through a page before?
I really like your videos! I'm currently in my first year of studying biomedical sciences in the Netherlands, and whenever I need a little bit more motivation to study your videos always help!
Hi Silvanne - good luck with your classes, sounds like some good topics but a lot of work!!
these are my fav videos to watch!
I subscribed to the channel because I have learned a lot from you and love hearing from you:)
I stumbled upon your videos last night and as creepy and weird as it sounds, I was basically up til almost 4 or 5 in the morning just watching them hahaha. I find what you do interesting!! And you're just so positive and sweet. Keep up the hard work!! Nurses and doctors don't get enough credit for what you guys do.
Thanks for Lorelei - lovely to have you watching!
Omg! I just found this channel and I loved it!
Really enjoy and super informative videos. Great attitude and and job you're doing.
I thank you for not putting things about serious trauma or deaths in the title to get more views. It give you such a professional standard that I hope more people start to follow!
I really appreciate the fact that you keep the same music and you say the same thing at the beginning of every video. I love that kind of consistency!
I love these vids I feel like I learn a lot about doctor stuff and it's so interesting what happens behind the scenes and it's cool leaning new things
Hey!! You are one amazing doctor! I have scoliosis and I want you to make a vid about it so than I can feel more comfortable about my surgery coming up! You always make me smile and laugh! You inspired me to want to become a doctor!! Ily
