Highroller - The Rippingtons (Freestyle Drum Cover)

- This drum cover was done in one take, no practice, minimal listening and it’s just what came out of my head during the tracking of this song! My grandson, Asher Knight did the moving camera work! We had less than a half hour to film the cover. I mixed it Saturday morning and made the video from that short session! So be kind … this is not an exact cover it’s a freestyle video! It’s meant to be fun … maybe I’ll do this again more exact in the future, but last weekend I jammed this work into the short space I had to play drums Friday evening!
I hope you enjoy it!
The Rippingtons were an American contemporary jazz group, mainly relating to the genres smooth jazz, jazz fusion, jazz pop, and crossover jazz. Formed in 1985 by guitarist and band leader Russ Freeman, their career has spanned more than three decades. With a revolving door of musicians, Freeman has been the only consistent member. They have inspired many other bands including "The Stolen Cat Club."
Many of their songs have been played during The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s forecast segments.[1] The band's mascot is a grinning, sunglasses-wearing jazz cat which appears in the artwork of all the band's releases and on their official website. Now available Earldrum's Spring Store

Hammer, I don’t know what tickles me more, your drumming or seeing you get to spend some quality time with your grandson. This is when those “Hey, Papa, remember when I was your cameraman when you played that jazzy Rippington song?” moments come flooding back into your mind.
Well done, my friend. This is fun!!!❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️
Greg I love having time with Asher and all my grandkids and I don’t take it for granted either! It was a great time! He did a cover too! Maybe someday I’ll release it!
@@earldrum Quality time left.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Very good. I think I will take the one take challenge. Just have to think of a song I can fake and not obsess over.
It was hard for me to release my ideas of a good cover because I know it’s not even close to dialed in I like my other covers these days! But this was an hour with my grandson to goof around and this take was okay! But I understand the “not obsessing” over comment!
Very cool!! Looked like you both had a blast together!!
Thanks for the feedback Mickey! We had fun! 🤣🤣🙏🏻🤘🏻😎

Crumbs this week Jeff! Thanks for the feedback my friend!
@@earldrum great sounding Gretsch snare though, by the way!!!!!!!!!!
@@metzilla that drum is special because I bought it in 1995. It was really beat up and when I met Dan at DMR drums he redid the bearing edges, put in a good snare bed, and put on a Dunnett throw off in 2008. It does sound great! Thanks
@@earldrum 👍👍👍
