  • This is a movie from 1945 that's based on the popular radio show of the same name. Archie (Ed Gardner), the manager of Duffy's Tavern, puts on a benefit variety show. He and BJ (Victor Moore), disguised as painters, sneak into a hotel to recruit stars for the show. In the first excerpt, they encounter Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake, who are rehearsing a scene, but Archie and BJ mistake it for real. Despite the misunderstanding, Ladd and Lake appear in the show. The second excerpt is their skit in the performance (with Howard Da Silva). Regardless of what one thinks of the jokes (rather nasty - but then, so were many of AL's early roles), I thought fans of Ladd and Lake would enjoy these clips. Personally, I think they're worthwhile just for the glamour shot of Alan at the bar. I love Veronica's hairstyle in the first clip. And I wonder if those cigarettes were glued on? (Note how Alan never drops his during the scuffle. LOL)
