Thanks to Mr. Justin Lyons I just found out that even without the Alexa you can use some offline voice commands without any internet access. The command is " OK Garmin" and you can use it for some simple commands like on the older Garmin devices we used to say " Voice Command"

Garmin should be paying you to do this video .. just sold me on this model , ( darn shame they dont make a siri model ) my old garmin drive 60 went belly up after 3yrs of daily use.. 200,000k miles driven .. been using my cell phone and waze this week . if you drive a lot, cell and waze just dont get it ! @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 2 lety +1

Yes Garmin GPS is much different than TomTom, for some it's more complicated whereas for others it's better since it is much more customization capabilities. For example, with Garmin you can use third-party opensource maps which are free, water charts for sea navigation, land maps for hiking and camping, and Air maps for pilots. Also, there are more than a dozen PC-based applications for route planning, trip planning, and flight mapping. In short, TomTom is like a Mac, and Garmin is like a PC, so both have their own targetted consumers.

    1. have a Garmin drive smart 61.
    2. I got the auto electrician to build a separate cig lighter in my car for this.
    3. So I can use the live traffic cable.
    4. The cig lighter cable that comes with the 61, has a built in traffic receive, it updates traffic very often. So doesn’t need to accurate to nearest minuet.
    5. Other charging cables don’t have the built in traffic receiver so don’t update live traffic. I’m not sure you can link it with your phone to get live traffic that way. Even if it does I’m not sure which is faster to update traffic faster.
    6. As I was using the original cig lighter to charge my phone.
My question is what are the benefits of the 65 over the 61?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

Hi fist of all you didn't need to have an electrician build another Cigarette lighter port you could have bought a cigarette lither spliter like this www.ebay.com/itm/223639923082
The GTM60 traffic condition receiver is just as good as if you were to get traffic data from your smartphone. However cellphone works from Cellular data so it might cost you data chargers. The GTM Traffic cable uses FM Transmission like FM radio so it has no charge.

You are very welcome, and about your question, the answer is unfortunately NO. The older Garmin units could do that but they discontinued that feature on the newer ones. I called Garmin to ask them why, and I was told that the Post Office is constantly changing the Zip Codes as new developments are rising and that was causing major issues to the Navigation Devices.

    Hi Sir !
The Environmental Zones Setting - Allow or Not Allowed - is because in Europe several cities require Green Stickers (Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5, and so on) which are level of emissions of the vehicle and you won't be able to enter certain zones driving certain vehicles at a certain time. So you need to tell your GPS to avoid these Environmental Zones if you are not allowed to enter these zones so the GPS will go around (if possible).

Thank you for your help. I found by accident that the Garmin setting regarding "Environmental Zones" is not actually for avoiding polluted areas. It is for avoiding these designated "low emission zones" where you must purchase and display "Emission Stickers". You have been to Europe, and I assume Germany, where you will have seen the stickers talked about on this page: www.germanemissionssticker.com/
      Garmin's manual states:
      Avoiding Environmental Zones
Your device can avoid areas with environmental or emissions restrictions that may apply to your vehicle.
I have found nothing about disabling the split view. I think, like you, that it can't be disabled, but I will call Garmin.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 2 lety +1

No problem, so that depends on the type of car you drive. In some cars as you turn the ignition key to off position the vehicle will cut off the power from the Cigarette Lighter port. However there are also cars that will always have power on the cigarette lighter port even when the vehicle is OFF. So on such cars you have to get Garmin's hard wire car kit and wire it to a switched power source in your car.

@@paulkillick3419 Maybe there are other electronic devices in the car that is causing a conflict with the Garmin GPS. All GPS satellites broadcast on at least two carrier frequencies: L1, at 1575.42 MHz, and L2, at 1227.6 MHz (newer satellites also broadcast on L5 at 1176 MHz). So there are no Radio devices such as Walkie Talke, CB Radios, etc. to conflict with GPS signals. So in my opinion the only culprit could be the vehicle electronics under the dashboard.

I want to buy a gift to my father and I am thinking about this Garmin Drivesmart 65 with Alexa, so my first question is this: Can Alexa in this device speak spanish? You know... Alexa sometimes can speak english only in some of these smart devices and they are blocked by geolocation when it comes to Alexa... so my second question is: Do you know if this Garmin Drivesmart 65 can work inside of Costa Rica? @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 thank you so much for your answers!!!. You know, for example, we have some Fire HD 10 Tablets which they are manufactured by Amazon and Alexa in those tablets speak english only, no spanish (in none of them). We contacted Amazon Customer Support to check this and they told us that indeed in some devices Alexa can speak only English, although in Echo devices can be available more languages than English. Our Echo Frames, Echo Dots, Echo Shows, Samsung TVs, Yamaha Sound Bar, etc. all of them speak spanish with no issues, but for this I have been selecting each device carefully before buying it. That's why I would like to be 100% sure that Alexa in the Phone Settings (in the Alexa App) can be configured in Spanish. I can buy and wait to return the device just in case it does not come with Spanish enabled. However, I would love to buy it so that my father can use it immediately, without so much waiting. I also wrote to Garmin 3 days ago, but no answers yet. If you have how to check this for me, I would really appreciate your response again. Thank you very much again in advance. :)

Guys, I have one issue that bothers me with this Garmin since I bought it. If I set the route within Trip Planner, start to drive and make a pause, the GPS cancels the route as if I never started it! I'm forced to do all the steps again or to load a previously saved route. It drives me nuts!
It's pretty weird because my other GPS, Garmin nuvi 2797, works completely different and as it meant to - if I turn off the car for a break, it retains the route after I continue to drive.

Hi, I have a 120 to 12 volt charger that I plug a GPS into that needs charging. When I replace a battery in one, I just plug it into this charger and let it charge up, overnight. I also use it to charge the internal battery of any GPS unit that need charging. These chargers are cheap on eBay - about $7 with free shipping. A USB cable will not charge them. I use a standard Garmin power cable, even on traffic models. I just turn them off and let them charge. The battery will charge in the off position. The problem with cars, today, is they have switched power outlets, meaning power outlets are on only when the engine is running. That sucks. My old Mountaineer has a power outlet that is on all the time but running a GPS on it will run down the battery., as I found out. In my .CRV it has two power outlets but both are switched. This is why I have a 12 volt outlet that I plug into a buss bar in my office.

For Weight Station you must have a Garmin Dezl which is designed for Trucks. However you could add POI ( Points of Interests) of all the Weight station in your area and add it to the POI folder in your Garmin.

Hi,m and thx for this great video, as customer attention at Garmin is either useless or non existing.
I am suscribed to the radars yearly service, but I can´t see nothing related to radars in the GPS interfaces. Any tips? Thx in advance!
PS: and I cant find anywhere how to update the firmware in case there are updates. Garmin just replied that they have no updates, and that is it :(

Greetings. The Garmin's Speed Radar and Red Light Camera field are at " PROXIMITY ALERTS" then click on " ALERT TYPES" then click on Garmin Safety Cameras.
The update for this is under the name of Garmin Cyclops, and you can read more about it here www.garmin.com/en-US/safety-alerts/

The best way to do so is to use Garmin's Original Wall Charger, here is an example www.ebay.com/itm/332429371420

Thank you. Do you know if a back-up camera can be added WITH a wire, not wireless? I want power and the camera connected right to the screen?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 8 měsíci

I did some research and unfortunately the only wired camera that Garmin offers is not compatible with DriveSmart 65. Although it works with DriveSmart 66 and many other models of Garmin. Here is the link www.garmin.com/en-US/p/768650#devices

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Wow, I really appreciate that direction. I don't know what "Drive Smart 65, or 66 IS, but I think the link you gave me will help. Thank you again for that, you put me on the right path I think. As all new cars come so equipped (wired connection) I am surprised it is such a big deal. Several have asked me "what have you got against a wireless connection"--they work well, easy to install, etc./all. But then again, if car makers issue new cars with a wired connection--which has better signal feed, and no need for batteries, why is it so odd to people that I want to aftermarket the same to my older Truck?

@@jimquantic People don't know any better; you are correct. A wired camera is much more reliable and has better signal strength than a wireless one.

The co-ordinates format will sometime need to be changed depending on the infomation to hand. We travellec in France and many business gave us co=ordinates, but the format was very often different. It is no big deal changing the format thare are three in common usage and you can pick which ever one you choose quite easily. Otherwise a very informative video thanks you so much. Incidentally my old Garmin, (dead now after 15 years) had the facility to change the voice used to give directions, as well as language, I assume that this one does too, although I didn't hear you mention it.

Thanks, and yes you can customize the voice to many different voices on this too. Although there are limited number of options in it you can download additional voices for it from Garmin's Website. If you have a windows PC you can also record your own voice in any language or slang words to create a custom guidance voice.

I like on request, in the cities that I know my way around, because I can always choose a better shortcut from my own experience. However if I go somewhere that I have never been to before, I chose Automatic.
