    Great work, Livi. This is probably the best video for new players. It's fun, concise and relatively short.

    Sister Mercy is the star of the show! Slaying the undead with ease. Thanks Livi you have saved me reading the rule book with your superb tutorial. Im going to play my first game tonight.

    Love this game, so thank you for introducing it to me.
    In the last 2 weeks I've played around 8 games in the standard dungeon, 2 with Fiendish Foes, and the Three Rings supplement.
    Its my new addiction.

    I love the setup! And those HP trackers are great, I usually just use a d20 but they get knocked easily.

  • @Putsili

    Fun video, enjoyed it!
    I have four comments:
    - On Defense Rolls you have to beat the opponents level, not equal it.
    - Wandering Monsters always attack first and they don´t have treasure.
    - Rogues get the "outnumber" bonus only on attacks vs. Minions, not Bosses.
    - The Final Boss always fights to the death.

    • @soloadventureswithlivi1108
      @soloadventureswithlivi1108  Před 2 lety +8

      Thanks for pointing these things out! I realized a few of them later while I was editing- this game has so many little rules that are easy to forget or confuse. Personally, I always give the rogue the defense bonus even during boss fights, but I forgot that that isn't the "actual" way to play that. I just figure that logically the rogue should always have some sort of offensive bonus, particularly because the class becomes a little underpowered in my opinion compared to all the various ones that came in later supplements.
      Looking at my printed copy of the book, I see that it says that defense is a success if "result is equal to or better than monster's L." It could be that it is a typo though, or maybe it was changed in later editions. I'll have to look into that!

    • @soloadventureswithlivi1108
      @soloadventureswithlivi1108  Před 2 lety +5

      Actually, I just found the problem- the rules in the main book are written differently from the rules on the "quick reference" sheet. I think you might be right, though- this game is even deadlier than I thought, and that is saying something :)

    • @Putsili
      @Putsili Před 2 lety +3

      @@soloadventureswithlivi1108 I have the Revised rules, version 4.0. But you are right, there are different statements in the book on a succesful defense (page 53 and page 84). I will go with a succesful defense equal to the opponents level from now on (the game is still deadly enough).
      The wording in the book is sometimes really poor and the rules are all over the place.
      I think the rogue is quite strong because of his ability to detect and disarm traps AND his added Level to defense rolls also.

    • @dripster8279
      @dripster8279 Před 2 lety +6

      Yeah the rules does provide two different answers to defence rolls.
      I found the layout of the book is also all over the place. Hence why I have been re-ordering and the book and merging a few supplements into a single book for easy use.
      eg adding roll all roll tables to the back of the book - magic spell table, searching empty rooms table, wandering monster roll table etc etc are just a few I found I was flipping all over the place for.

      @@soloadventureswithlivi1108
      The Creator, Andrea, has clarified that you must roll over the monster's level on defense rolls. This game can, indeed, be deadly! Especially at earlier levels.
      The rogue can be a great tank, especially at expert levels, by avoiding many attacks with their +L to defense. But personally, I switched to a succubus for that role in my main party because she can also fill the healer role (though the succubus can't pick locks or detect traps -- you definitely want a rogue or similar character in trap-heavy dungeons, like those from Digressions of the Devouring Dead).

    This was great to watch, thank you! I have done my first two plays. First time none of my characters made it out alive! Second time Brother Baylen (cleric) was killed by zombies before the rest of my party fled the dungeon! They made 54gp profit so off to the market, eat and heal and then they'll be trying their hand at another dungeon.

    From my involvement in 4AD for about a month now, This game requires a complete dissection of the book and a few days of sifting through the boardgame geek forum to get the authors intent and clarifications. Ranged attacks mixed with marching order are the most difficult to understand, but the forums gave 6 examples to assist. Im getting there too, im with you as this game seems easy at first glance, but leaves many questions. But the depth to such an easy looking game is fascinating. Love the game.

    I use a little alchemist lantern that I got from a capsule toy machine. It even lights up which is meaningless but adds to the feel. I like the cube idea for hp so I will grab some next time I am at the hobby store. Your set up is much neater than mine and gave me good ideas, nice vid.

    Juts found your channel
    Tonight, brings back memories of AD&D in the 80s. Subscribed to patron as well.
    One thing, the volume of the dice in the tower is quite jarring since your voice is relatively low, my volume is all the way up.
    Maybe a piece if felt could help quiet the dice so the volume is balanced better.
    Otherwise I love that you’re doing this!

    Salutations Livi and community! I would like to preface by stating this is a game that I have not played. Having said that tipping my cap to your organizational skills-definitely better than the random mess I create. Secondly, if the rats/vermin do not provide XP or loot perhaps the chance of them dealing damage should be less? But then that would probably be house rules. Thirdly, at one point you stated you do not invest any emotionally into new characters. That is completely understandable. However, that got me thinking as to when you do start feeling an attachment to a hero/heroes. Is it after X amount of campaigns? After a certain level? Likewise, do you feel yourself getting attached quicker with, say, minis? Or how about minis that you have painted yourself(if you have any)? Lastly, as you were drawing the dungeon is it possible to fill the the lair without fighting the boss? If so do you just start anew? By the way you are doing a great job-Cheers!

    Just getting into 4AD, saw a few profiles say Treaure-1 and Treasure Normal. I am assuming treasure normal means just roll on the table. But does Treaure -1 meam I take the next lowest number? I.E. if I roll a 3 I would treat it as a 2 on the table?

    I havent watched the newer videos but I'll just say this. I really like this, I am interested in the game and your videos are lovely. However, the dice tower is way too noisy and a bother to listen to, tbh, also the sheets are very small and hard to read but I understand that editing to make it all more readable is a hastle. Those would be my only comments, I will keep on watching more of your videos, cheers!
