    Funnily enough I am someone who sees the big picture more easily, but struggles with details, and that is usually my downfall when it comes to coloured pencils. Impatience usually wins out! But as you say, starting out light is definitely key to building up detail in a drawing. I love how your owl turned out, the eyes especially are excellent! 😄

      Thank you Becky!❤️ colored pencils are definitely tricky for those of us who are impatient(like myself😂) and detail work takes absolutely forever.

    When I write I always push down super hard on the paper 😅. So I had to break that habit when I learned to draw. Colored pencils are so fun to work with!! Can make lots of textures 🤩🤩!! Oof the color theory is always something I’ve struggled with 😬. The art classes that I took never really focused on that. I’ve tried mixing pencils though before! Especially when drawing hair with colored pencils. These feathers amaze me 🙌🏻!! Good point about breaking the habit of drawing a harsh outline. Woot woot 2 Skill shares up 👏🏻 You go girl!! Patients is key with art- as much as most of us don’t want to admit 😅. Nice tips queeeen! Owl looks fab too! 💕

      Thanks Kari!💕 haha wanting to push hard on the paper is a real struggle! I love colored pencils but I admit there are so many aspects to them that I never really stop learning haha. And drawing hair/fur/feathers is super fun! Patience is the biggest skill/advantage but the least desirable thing to learn😂😂

    Hi! Thank you for the upload! I just bought polychromos 120 set and I am extremely disappointed , the colours take ages to layer and they don't blend well , could you give me any tips? Maybe it's the paper I use ( Bristol canson) thank you!

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello, thank you for watching😊 I had the same frustrations with my polychromos at first and it took me a while to figure them out. I was debating making a video specifically about polychromos because of this. They are oil based, which makes them less soft and creamy than the prismacolors for example(which are wax based). Polychromos are less opaque and take a long time to layer- you can speed up this process by using a solvent to blend out your layers(although I’d recommend using watercolor or mixed media paper for this since solvent is wet media). For things like wildlife, fur, hair, etc polychromos are great because they sharpen and stay at a fine point which allows you to achieve a much better level of detail. The problem comes when trying to create a smooth blend for something like skin for example. With my prismacolors, I could easily get smooth skin by blending with my white pencil. Polychromos white doesnt work that way, so to create skin I’ll slowly layer by coloring in small circular motions with not much pressure on the paper. Polychromos allow you to add layers forever, so you can achieve a wonderful depth but it takes time for colors to build up and look more opaque. They aren’t going to be easy to create a background or cover a large area with unless you use solvent, though. I have a video of a portrait I did with polychromos and solvent(just for the background) and you can see the level of depth I was able to achieve in the skin tone as well as how I used solvent for the background- czcams.com/video/jb9c_1yYc1Y/video.html

      I think Bristol paper can be a bit troublesome with Polychromos, and they do work more easily on paper with a slightly rougher tooth. Stonehenge drawing papers are nice (but expensive), but even plain old cartridge paper and even printer paper works better than Bristol for these pencils. It's worth trying out a few different papers to figure out which one feels best for you. Give the pencils time, they really are lovely! 😄

      @@AlexisCassandraArt thank you so much for replying , I think that it was my mistake ordering s big set without trying them first , I should have gone for prismacolor I will try your suggestions and give them a go

    • @ccdani2
      @ccdani2 Před 3 lety +2

      @@BeckyTregear thank you so much for your suggestions , I will definitely try a different paper , I follow some great artist on yt like for example drawholic and he used to use Bristol paper for his realistic pencil drawings so I thought that it should work 😅

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před 3 lety +2

      @@ccdani2 Of course, i hope you are able to get used to them and enjoy them:) becky’s suggestions about paper are great as well, I’m actually using the Stonehenge drawing paper in this video. In the long run, you are probably better off with polychromos because they are much more lightfast than prismacolors(your work wont fade, most of the prismacolor colors can fade after a few years and most of the polychromos do not).

    Do you prefer wax or oil based colored pencils?

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před 3 lety +1

      I would say my favorite is oil based because I find it much easier to add details and my pencils don't run out as quickly. However, wax based pencils I prefer specifically for coloring skin for a portrait, or creating a background!
